Because him coming in for Wood is going to be such a detriment to our D.

so you're saying Lewis is ahead of Warren in terms of being defensively ready?

Lewis is supposed to be the best pure PG in the class and a prominent recruiting analyst predicted that he would start as a freshman, but with Zo here we have the luxury of bringing him along slowly. I think he'll get 15 minutes per game next year.

Purvis will have every opportunity to take CJ Williams' spot in the lineup. If he can handle it, he'll be a starter next year. Purvis is more polished than Leslie was coming out of HS, there is no reason to think that he won't be able to handle ACC play as a freshman.

Warren will have to compete with Wood and Leslie for playing time. He sounds a lot like Brandon Costner, pure scoring ability in a big body, with questions about his passion for the game. If the Costner comparison is valid, then he should be very good as a freshman.

I think so, yes.

One factor I'm considering is that we're much deeper at Warren's position than Lewis'. Alex Johnson is a sub par defender and is getting major minutes. Lewis will see plenty of the court.

Lewis is going to be like AJ defensively -- IOW, whoever he is guarding is going to have a career night.

yeah, i think people who are simultaneously upset w/ scott wood's defensive effort and expecting lewis to come in and contribute right away (which seems to be like 90% of this board) will be sorely disappointed.

I'm more upset with Wood's offensive effort. His defense isn't horrible, he gets quite a few blocks and deflections.

Lewis has the luxury of coming into a conference that currently has no premiere point guards. Nevertheless, everyone knows that he'll have trouble on the defensive end.

wood will not consistently be the player we know and love until he learns to do something other than shoot. Until he can make his own space, he will be easy to keep a lid on.

He tries to make his own space all the time. Then he gets called for a foul

I mean creating his own space off the dribble. If there's no threat for him to blow by you in the lane and make something happen, he can't even get the extra couple of feet that would let a shooter like him put the ball up over a defender.

Newsflash...Scott Wood isn't going to blow by anyone. He'll never get that space.

The average TWWer college kid is probably on Wood's level as an athlete; he just happens to be eight inches taller and a much better basketball player. But athletically, he's no more able to get open against elite perimeter defenders than you or I. Being our only reliable outside shooter hurts him because his man rarely has to sag off him to help elsewhere.

You are kidding right?

The average college kid would be embarrassed by Wood if it came down to endurance and athleticism. Anyways, I didn't know that we are recruiting this tall white boy from Indiana.

My roommate in college was an exact replica of Scott Wood, minus 4/5 inches in height. White, pale, buzz cut, athletic, but not jump out of the gym athletic. He was also a sharpshooter that played two years at Division 2 school. I still think that if he was in the 6'4" range, he could have played for State. He debated walking on, but didn't want to be the next Keeter.

I'm telling ya...they're friggin twins...with just one being shorter. Ask Agent 0.

And a marksmen is a marksmen. A guy that can hit threes at a Division II school can hit them at a Division I school. He just needed to be taller. I promise you Wood would not be starting if he was only 6 foot.

dude played at a Div II school...Wood got offers from some ridiculously good Div I schools.

Willing to bet your friend couldnt have even walked on.

I cant believe youre actually comparing a Div. II average joe to one of the best 3 point shooters in the country.

Wood is just an enhanced version of every white all star from every pick up game you've ever played. He's not some elite specimen carved out of granite. He's a good player, but his shortcomings are so obvious that any competent coach should be able to gameplan him effectively.

and besides, why would your friend need to be "taller" if he was such a good elite player?

height has nothing on ability to play basketball if you are so good...its related to position only.

makes no sense.

You guys are fucking retarded.

Archie was a fucking point guard. Wood can't handle the ball well enough to be a goddamn shooting guard.

Archie had to shoot a lot of his shots 5/6 ft behind the arc because he was a midget.

Scott Wood is too slow, not athletic enough, and not a good enough ball handler to be a point guard or a primary shooting guard. Therefore, he needs to be tall enough to guard SFs and slow SGs AND tall enough to get his shot over defenders. Therefore...he would rarely get any burn if he was 6 feet.

I wish NyM would start banning posters for posting stupid shit.

No offense but Archie Miller could outshoot Scott Wood any day of the week.

Dude was barely 5'9" and was money to 5 feet behind the line.

[Edited on February 24, 2012 at 2:14 PM. Reason : ^This. Pretty much if Wood isn't making shots, AJ is a better option now]

Wood not making threes is like Adam Dunn not hitting home runs

That's just silly talk. I like Archie as much as the next guy, but Wood is clearly a better shooter. Watching the games, I never had the confidence threes were gonna fall with Archie that I have with Wood. I do agree with the rest of your post though. If Wood isn't hitting shots, we need to put someone else in.

Another stupid post. Comparing a permanent physical trait to making a fucking basketball shot.

Height is a main (if not THE main) factor in a sport where you have to score points in a basket that is 10 feet high. IMAGINE THAT SHIT!!!!

Archie's % is higher than Wood's I would bet any amount of $ you want.

Archie shot over 50% one season did he not? I thought he or Terry Gannon held the single season mark.

[Edited on February 24, 2012 at 2:50 PM. Reason : They probably averaged the same amount of rebounds despite the 1-foot difference in height]

I think Archie was a career 43/44% shooter. I believe he had an injury shortened year (he played 2/3 year) where he shot like 55+% from three point land.

Wood is low 40s.

Archie wins.

Archie routinely shot from behind the line. His range easily > Wood.

Plus I remember Archie playing really well against UNC unlike our current white superstar.....

Archie had 20 points against the 8-20 UNC team, that's about it.

Wood's numbers are better than Archie's. Revisionist history/short guy syndrome (what up brick) ITT.

I'm actually not a big Archie fan. But I don't see how you can definitively say Wood is a better shooter. Archie had to throw up fucking rainbows to get a lot of his shots on the rim. And Wood can shoot (and make them) from deep...but Archie did that shit on a consistent basis...in addition to running the point for a bunch of shitty teams.

Wood has played 6 games against UNC and probably doesn't have a combined 20 points.
