I'm assuming TJ Warren is in by the amount retweets he's making about the McD's game announcements.

Well, only two after checking again, but that's more than he's been doing lately

Lowe, Whittenberg, Corchiani, Monroe and Hodge all turned out to be stars.

Meyers and Scooter served as solid 4-year players.

Costner, after showing great promise as a freshman, never realized his full potential due to poor coaching and poor work ethic.

Hickson and Washburn used the program as a springboard to the NBA, putting up great stats for a year or 2 on mediocre teams.

Wilkins was overhyped coming out of HS, and transferred due to differences between his family and the coaching staff.

The book is still open on Leslie.

Out of 12 burger stars come and gone, 5 turned into all-time greats for our program, and 3 others had very respectable 4-year careers. That's not bad odds.

ok, so one thing that jumps out at me there is that Herb had as many burger boys as V. I can only assume that the field was smaller back in the 80s?

or was he not as prolific of a recruiter as I remembered?

Not to nitpick but we went to the Elite 8 both years we had Washburn, even though he only played one full season.

^ good point. I didn't remember much about those teams in '85 & '86, so I kinda assumed they were mediocre.

They all made it! All of our recruits are playing on the East team. We have three McD AA's coming next year. Wow.

All three of our guys on the same team, along with Amile Jefferson. I bet Amile commits to Duke before they even play this game, but I hope I'm wrong about that. If he is still undecided when that game rolls around, playing on a team with all 3 of our McD All-Americans can only help our chances with him (I would think).

^^eh, some recruit guys say he's the best passer in the class, so i'm guessing they took that into consideration, and are hoping he puts on a show at the all-star game.

It's the way the McD AA game works. If we didn't have Warren and Purvis as recruits, Lewis probably wouldn't be in.

There are a couple of the top players in this class that are 5th year guys, which took them out of the running. Also, Nerlens Noel can't play because he just re-classified. Tyler is the lowest rated of all the burger boys according to scout. I can't wait to see him PG a team in the game with how little defense is played. Alley Oops for Everyone! haha

Lewis is the best performer on the top HS team in the country. With the weakish point guard class this year, I thought the best chances for our guys would have been: Purvis, Lewis, then Warren.

lewis earned his way onto the team, it had nothing to do with purvis and warren being selected. if anything, having lewis committed is part of what helped us land purvis and warren in the first place.

lewis is actually 5th in the 2011-2012 Mr. Basketball voting:
http://espn.go.com/high-school/boys-basketball/story/_/id/7535087/movement-noel-reclassification

5 of the 10 guys that vote on that award are also on the selection committee for the McDonald's All-American game. transferring to oak hill and helping to lead them to an undefeated record and #1 ranking has done wonders for tyler's exposure.

also, as others have said it's a fairly weak PG class this year. i think lewis is the best passer in the nation though, and as such he deserves to be in the game. he probably has a chance to break the assist record for the McDonald's game, whatever the record is.

NCSU has more at the game than any other team in the nation. With that, and ESPN's love of Gottfried, we should get mentioned quite a bit. Great for future recruiting.

http://espn.go.com/high-school/boys-basketball/story/_/id/7558497/2012-mcdonald-all-american-game-boys-rosters-announced

North Carolina State leads the way with three All-American recruits: point guard Tyler Lewis of Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), shooting guard Rodney Purvis of Upper Room Christian (Raleigh, N.C.) and small forward T.J. Warren of Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.). Kentucky and Arizona claim two selections apiece, while no other college currently has multiple recruits selected to the game.

Yes but he has already put himself in a class above scooter.

Poor scooter, I really don't think that Herbie's system was the best choice for him.

^^I know. I always felt bad for Scooter. He went from scoring 40 points a game in high school to a guy who could only shoot spot up 3's. I never hated Herb, but I do think his offense atrophied Scooter's offensive skills (namely penetrating). He was a damn good defender by his senior year though

Not when judging contribution to the program. Not yet anyway. You would be a fool to take Leslie's erratic play these past 2 seasons over Scooter's 4 years.

Unless and until Leslie comes back next year and improves his consistency, I won't rank him above Scooter in term of value to the program.

If we can get Torian Graham & Amile Jefferson... Jesus Christ, we'd have a ridiculous foundation (on top of the 3 All-Americans).

and i've been watching so many youtube videos of recruits today, b/c i was so pleased w/ the team's performance today and this season in general up to date, and i'm getting so excited. this is bad.

Yeah, Torian Graham is apparently still interested in us... Amile Jefferson is split 60/40 (Duke & us), but his dad at least gives us credit for trying so damn hard.

I thought Torian Graham would be committed if he had his academics in line? So I think if he gets those straightened out we'd still be his first choice. If not I'd love to see him follow in Lorenzo Brown's footsteps and do a year in a prep school.

may as well keep beating the dead horse...

Amile would be a better fit at State where the low post presence is a true need. Amile wouldn't get immediate playing time at Duke w/ their bigs in front of him, plus their system is more towards utilizing the bigs for ball screens...nearly every trip down the court.

I would love to see us get a player that we can stick on the block, and let him go 1 on 1 to the hoop.

CJ Leslie can create off the block, but he seems more of a hybrid step-out player who likes to put it on the floor from 10-12ft out.

Landing Amile would be incredibly huge as we'd not only get a pure low post scorer, but a legitimate double teamer...

This is silly. Mason Plumlee gets plenty of touches and one if not both contributing Plumlees are gone after this season. Basically the only true front court player definitively returning is Kelly and he plays more as a three should anyway. State has Calvin, Howell and Painter all returning who play solid minutes already.
