Yeah, it's pretty bad. They've had some tough injuries though. Ever since Osman went off it's been all Bolton.

After all this shitty play, United are only 3 points behind City, not bad! But we've undoubtedly got the tougher schedule till May...

Just finished the 92-93 season. Hard to believe that was Man U's first in 26 years. Giggs looks crazy young winning his 2nd PFA YPOTY award in a row.

Top of the Table for the season:
1. Man U
2. Aston Villa
3. Norwich (ugly, ugly kits but led for a good part of the season)
4. Blackburn
5. QPR

I also had no idea Vinnie Jones played soccer

Steve Bruce won it for us with two late goals against Wimbledon(I think?)

You have the season review?

Yeah, some guy on reddit uploaded every year of 'The Premiership Years' from 92' - 11'. It's a lot of material to watch but it is a nice accompaniment to Football Manager.

for Ribs... Top 100 countdown from 16 different journalists has Bale at #45

http://blogs.thescore.com/footyblog/2012/01/05/the-top-100-footballers-in-the-world-%E2%80%93-part-6-50-41/

Me:

Let's see how many of my 10 players get named ahead of Bale. Hart was already named earlier but Nani is at #41, and my other 8 haven't been named yet (I don't think so anyways, it's annoying to have to click on a different thing for each 10)

[Edited on January 5, 2012 at 12:41 PM. Reason : just went back, Mata at #53, my bad]

Classy of Howard not to overcelebrate. He also went over to the opposition keeper after the match to sort of console him.

'93-'94 over. Man U wins again. It's all about Cantona and his ugly ass.

Question for you soccer peeps: When can you take a free kick inside the penalty box without it being a penalty kick? They have several replays of people trying to chip over walls only a few yards out and I have never seen it done in a game or FIFA/FM.

Indirect foul. Something like a defender back pass to their keeper and the keeper picks it up. That would be an indirect FK from wherever the keeper touched it.

^^ Theyre pretty rare though, I remember Fabio Aurelio scored one (on United...maybe?) about 2 years ago inside the box.

I remember seeing old video of defenders passing it back to keepers and the keepers picked it up and play continued. So maybe the rule changed around that time and people forgot?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-pass_rule

Yep. '92.

I think it rarely comes into play because it's really the keeper who decides to touch the ball in the end. If the keeper's going to touch the ball, there's probably not going to be any doubt of whether it was a back-pass or not. These days it seems keepers work on their footwork as much as they do their saves. Also, there's the caveat that the pass has to be deliberately initiated with the foot, which means headers, chested balls, kicks from the knee or shin, deflections, etc don't constitute a back-pass.

Quote :
"The back-pass rule was introduced in 1992 to discourage time-wasting and overly defensive play after the 1990 World Cup was described as exceedingly dull, rife with back-passing and goalkeepers holding up the ball. An example was when Ireland goalkeeper Pat Bonner kept the ball for over 6 minutes against Egypt by dribbling it around his box and picking it up again."

I could see the fans and the players losing their shit over something like this.

Lindegaard looked like he was about to shit his pants in the final five minutes, well make that the entire game.

Great game to watch from a neutral observer.

Congrats to City, the MORAL winners of the game

Kompany's twitter:
The fans, the players and every single person involved with Man City FC were incredible today. Definitely the moral winners of this game.

"Well, Rooney for one.

I'll add Nani and Giggs to that list as well. First 3 examples that popped up in my head.

Fuck, add Ashley Young to that list, so 4.

SAF benches players immediately who flop. "

somebody already removed nani from the list, but i guess SAF is cool w/ rooney being a crybaby, for the red card and the penalty, he was the first one running to teacher w/ his arms raised to the sky.

also, this is beating a dead horse a bit, but kinda funny that rooney is held up for not flopping, seems like stomping on guys is a bit worse than flopping.

[Edited on January 8, 2012 at 2:12 PM. Reason : also, no Kompany for CC games!]

Nani is one of the worse offenders; I LOL'd when I saw him on there. I feel like I see him react like he took a bullet to the dome multiple times a game and he never slows down after taking such shots.

'94-'95 Blackburn win the league on the last day. Couldn't understand a word of what Dalglish was saying the whole time. Redknapp had some terrible hair at West Ham.

Oh, and Cantona with a kung-fu kick on a Palace fan. He must have said something horrible to him. Probably something about the unibrow.
