It's a good move but Henry isn't anywhere near the form he was in when he was previously at Arsenal, and it does nothing to solve the long term problem of having no backup for RvP. Hopefully this isn't the only piece of January business he does...

I think Berbatov believes Yakubu has a vintage bottle of port in his breast pocket anytime there is a free kick the way he is groping and pulling at him.

Definitely a Football Manager type result today for Man U.

SAF woke up this morning and was like, "4-4-2 has worked well for 70 years, probably time for a change." Followed up with, "No need for Rooney on the bench, we've got Will Keane!"

RvP breaks Henry's club record for goals in a calendar year, Arsenal wins, United lose, Chelsea lose, Spuds draw.

I will enjoy this day.

Spurs isn't a legit title contender anyway. Definitely will contest for a CL spot but don't have the depth to win over the full season.

^ I agree with that. At best with the current squad they could make a legit push for 2nd. But I think one big move in the transfer market might put them over the top. They're close enough to be considered (3 points behind both Manchester clubs if they can win their game in hand).

It will actually help them that they aren't playing European games (especially since it was just the Europa either) but the problem is the two Manchester teams aren't going to risk their title chances going for it in the Europa League so they'll be fresh down the stretch too.

Obviously anything can happen, so I probably shouldn't say they aren't title contenders given where they are but just don't see it with the relative depth of them and the two Manchester teams and the circumstances.

When was the last time that of the teams finished first through third in the EPL none made it to the knockout stages of the Champions League?

I think Spurs are a legit shot for the title

City's defense can't keep clean sheets to save their lives and you never know which United will show up

If FM12 has taught be anything, it's that Man City will go out and buy Srna and he'll have 20 assists in the 2nd half of the season. Micah Richards will just have to bite the bullet and Zabaleta will be show the door.

They'll also buy Hamsik and Ganso creating the most baller midfield outside Barca.

Realistically though, if I were manager, I'd chat up Adam Johnson and see if he wants to play more often for my team instead of riding the pine.

There is no way on earth Suarez's 8 game ban gets any lighter, after having read that.

Sounds pretty bad.

In all honesty, Suarez should have just denied saying negro at all like Terry's doing because it seems like the case was lost in the whole language differences aspect. I only skimmed it but I only remember Suarez admitting to saying it once, in reply to Evra calling him a "South American" in a negative way. I still don't see much evidence other than Evra's word.

There is still ambiguity in what exactly Evra said and in what tone/language. If he called him a Sudaca then to Suarez that has every bit the connotation that calling someone a negro or worse has. It doesn't look good for Suarez and he simply isn't helping himself with his other on-field behavior.

Anyway, De Rossi to City? Hasn't SAF had a man-crush on him for years and years and is sort of in need of midfield help, particularly in De Rossi's style? Does City REALLY need him or are they just blocking so United can't get him. Interesting...

The difference is, Evra didn't do it 7 times in spite of himself.

You could buy Suarez's story if it hadn't changed several times, and if the correlating video evidence didn't match up.

Why else would he be pinching the guy's skin? Evra didn't even know it had happened and yet he never strayed from his story. Anyone who watched that game could see Evra's immediate reaction to Suarez's words, and the fact that it was all in spanish actually goes a long way to proving Evra's point - how many of you think Jonny Evans speaks anything other than English and poor defense?

Reading the actual words Evra claims were used presents a much better case than what Suarez puts forward, as well. Some of those sentences Suarez claims to have said in retort are an absolute mouthful - no way he's being that 'nice' on the field with a guy he's having an argument with.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/01/liverpool-report-luis-suarez

Quote :
"The third exchange alleged by Evra was that he said: "OK, now I think I'm going to punch you." To which Suárez replied, "Dale, negro, negro, negro", meaning "OK, blackie, blackie, blackie". Suárez disputed this was the case and claimed that he only said "negro" once during his confrontation with Evra, which was when the United player was alleged to have said "Don't touch me South American", when the referee, Andre Marriner, blew his whistle to stop the corner being taken. Suárez said that it was used in a way that was not intended to be racially offensive when he replied: "Por que, negro," meaning "Why, black?"

The commission, however, found several holes in this argument. Although it was accepted that "negro" could have a different meaning in Uruguay and Latin America in certain situations and that Suárez himself had used it on previous occasions in a friendly way, the experts that the FA instructed to prepare a written report on the linguistic and cultural interpretations of the words "negro and negros" in Rioplatense Spanish, told the commission "that if Mr Suárez said the things that Mr Evra alleged, they would be considered racially offensive in Uruguay and other regions of Latin America", not least because of the acrimonious context in which they occurred.

The fact that those who came forward to support Suárez were also inconsistent hardly helped Liverpool's case. While Suárez claimed that he said to Evra: "Por que, negro" – meaning "Why black?" – Damien Comolli, Liverpool's director of football, who spoke to Suárez immediately after the game, and Dirk Kuyt, the Liverpool midfielder who also had a conversation with his team-mate afterwards, both said initially in their interviews with the FA that Suárez's words translated as "because you are black". Comolli later claimed that he misheard what Suárez said in Spanish, and Kuyt said that he misheard what Suárez said in Dutch, leading to them both changing their words to tally with Suárez's version when it came to providing their witness statements.
