what has LT EVER won in the playoffs? he always comes up small in the playoffs and if Tony Romo had come out with the Electric Glide during the divisional round of the playoffs and the layed and egg like LT did, the media would CRUCIFY him.

He's pulling out of the Pro Bowl to be present for the birth of his 5th child.

Pulling out, that's what she said, etc.

Damn Brady is pulling out too, and Manning will probably be in the Superbowl.

None of the 3 starters playing it's going to be a boring pro bowl.

The Pro Bowl is already pretty worthless in the restrictions on play that keep it from being a real game, and not letting guys from Super Bowl teams play in the game.

Am I the only one that likes watching the retired players play beach football more than the actual Pro Bowl?

Can't say the reputation as a playoff choker is undeserved, at this point. 7-9 td-int ratio is bad regardless of anything else.

Why I respect Philip Rivers

I wish Rivers' brother would come play for State, kid is pretty sick...unfortunately it looks like he's SEC bound (or UCLA).

It would be cool to get Stephen Rivers, but I bet he wants to go somewhere where he wouldn't get compared to PR all the time. I still am amazed that Mazzone still has any kind of job. ASU got Mazzone'd.

This article isn't really about Rivers, but there's a picture and caption

http://espn.go.com/espn/thelife/videogames/blog/_/name/thegamer/id/5136914/first-look-madden-nfl-11

Philip Rivers looks so good in "Madden," I almost expect him to start talking trash.

Yeah I heard it also.

Apparently Rivers is supposed to beat the shit out of McNiel's and Jackson's agents. Then kick AJ Smith square in the nuts. Or something like that.

Article from ESPN talking about current AFC West players' potential to make it to the HOF.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/14139/afc-west-hall-of-fame-debate

Quote :
"Chargers: Philip Rivers, quarterback

Claim to fame: He is an elite quarterback. Rivers is in his prime and has gotten better in each of the four seasons he has started.

Case for enshrinement: This is a long-term project. Rivers is 28 and he should have another eight to 10 quality years remaining in his career. But he is on the right track.

Rivers is one of the game’s best players. He has put up huge numbers. He has thrown for 8,263 yards and 62 touchdowns in the past two seasons. He threw only 20 interceptions in that time. If Rivers, who has a high-powered offense to work with, continues to produce at this rate, he will be considered for enshrinement down the road.

He is a proven winner. San Diego is 46-18 in the regular season since Rivers became the starter. He is a natural leader.

Case against enshrinement: If Rivers gets hurt and his career ends prematurely, his Canton push will fall short. He needs to have a long career. He also needs to show he can deliver in the postseason, when it counts most. In 2006 and 2009, the Chargers were upset at home in their first playoff game in seasons in which the Super Bowl was an attainable goal. Rivers needs some signature playoff wins.

2004 draft class: Rivers will always be compared to Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. Manning was the No. 1 pick, Rivers was the No. 4 pick and Roethlisberger was the No. 11 pick in the 2004 draft. Of course, Manning and Rivers were the key figures in a draft-day trade between the Giants and the Chargers.

Both Manning and Roethlisberger have something Rivers doesn’t: a Super Bowl ring. Roethlisberger has two rings. If Rivers never gets a Super Bowl ring, this comparison could work against him. Still, Rivers appears to be the safest bet of the three as they all move forward. Rivers is playing great and he is a solid citizen. Manning is inconsistent on the field and Roethlisberger will start the 2010 season suspended because of off-field issues. In the end, Rivers probably will be remembered as the best of the three, but a ring will help.

Will he make it? If Rivers stays healthy, I think he will be a Hall of Famer. He'll retire with huge numbers. "

Thoughts??

I'd have to say I'm a little surprised that Philip has been dishing on LT. I'm not saying that its bad or that he's wrong (because I think he's 100% correct and LT has done his share of talking about the situation)...I guess I just expected him to remain silent.

^The comments were taken a bit out of context and [shockingly] blown out of proportion by the media. What is he supposed to say? "Oh man, it sure does suck w/o LT here. Camp's not the same, it's really tough without him. We miss him so much, we're going to be worse off."

His responsibility is to his team, and even if he doesn't believe it, he's got to make the rest of the team believe that they're better off w/o LT so as to inspire confidence and positivity moving forward after the end of the LT era.

^^I just didn't expect him to say anything.

There was a clip on Sportscenter this morning about it being "taken out of context." I don't think this makes him or the Chargers look bad, but up until now, it had been all LT bitching and crying. I'm just saying that it doesn't make them look any better.

^^^ Good points. He was very respectful of LT, but had to air him out a little bit for acting like a bitch when his role was being diminished.

Also, Phil wasn't the only guy saying it. Gates made comments along those very same lines.

From http://www.gopack.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/072810aad.html

Quote :
"The immediate reaction from scouts and fans is that Wilson, at 5-11, 210 pounds, is too small, perhaps too delicate, to play against NFL defenses.

Pure hogwash, said a former NC State passer who now makes his living playing on Sundays.

"Obviously, we aren't exactly similar players, in terms of size and stature," said San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. "He can do a lot more with his legs than I can. I have of guys out here in our lockerroom that come up to me and say `Golly, that Wilson can really play.'

"I just appreciate the way he plays."

Wilson also has one of the same qualities that turned Rivers from a big kid with a funny throwing motion into one of the NFL's marquee players: a desire to be successful that is unmatched by most.

"He has a command, a presence that I obviously notice," Rivers said. "You can never count him out when he has the ball in his hands. He is so accurate - he never throws interceptions. "I tell you what, the things they can't measure in the combines or watching videotape is the intangibles that make you a good player. To me, those intangibles almost outweigh all those other things they look at, after you reach a certain skill level. I notice that every time I see him play.""

Yeah, Rivers taking the time to discuss Russell Wilson and refers to times that he watches him play obviously doesn't care about NCSU.

http://www.gopack.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/080510aac.html

Quote :
"One thing, however, hasn't changed for the player whose No. 17 jersey hangs on the upper level of Carter-Finley Stadium.

"I do love the Wolfpack and NC State," said Rivers, over the laughter and chatter of his five kids at the backyard pool. "I try to watch every Saturday. I talk to Coach [Joe] Pate every now and then. It's funny, each year, when you come out as a rookie, you still know everybody on the roster. Now you're removed seven years, I don't personally know a single player on the team.

"I don't know a lot of people on the coaching staff, either. I don't have the direct relationship to the people I knew there. But I keep up with everything going on. I love seeing what a great turnout it is. It always makes me want to come back."

...

Rivers and Wolfpack head coach Tom O'Brien caught up with each other on the phone over the summer. O'Brien wanted to get to know Rivers a little better, and make sure the NFL star knew the door was always open for him to return.

"We played phone tag for a while, but we had a chance to catch up over the summer," O'Brien said. "It was great to have a conversation with him about the alumni weekend.

"He wanted to make sure that I understood that he loves NC State, loves everything about it. He has five children and lives three thousand miles away. That's precluded him from coming back very often and being part of the alumni weekend, and I completely understand that.""

Further evidence that Rivers hates NC State, as so many believe.

I don't think he hates State, but he hasn't been back I don't think. Five kids or not, he can afford a babysitter and can make it to the alumni football function in April--no football then.

^ Interesting, commentators have been talking about Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees all offseason. Seems like the Chargers are flying under the radar, which is a good thing.

It sucks when the Chargers are overhyped. It would be much more exciting to see Rivers put up a monster year after all the hype around other guys. He needs somebody to step up at WR, however. Floyd is nothing special, IMO.
