zeah...i figure this is a decent place to update the Pack's basketball rankings in the ESPN/Coaches, AP, Sagarin, RPI, whatever...so, as of 12/27/05, here are the Pack's bball rankings:

Week starting December 26/27

AP - 19th
ESPN/Coaches - 18th
Sagarin - 20th
RPI - 33rd (according to http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html i dont have great access to RPI rankings)

GO PACK!

There's also the CBS Sportsline RPI. Which should I use? Sportsline would be most convenient.

Eh. . . RPI changes too often and there are too many different sources. I'm going to stick with the polls for my purposes. Should be done in half an hour or so. I got sidetracked.

Oh well. Barebones, but I will update it each week. If CBS Sportsline archived their weekly polls or added all teams receiving votes, I would list that as well.

I thought it appropriate that the AP Series showed up Carolina Blue by default.

how much will a win against New Hampshire and then a win against George Washington help the ranking?

hate to burst the anti-media bubble

I'd be willing to bet that UNC graduates working as sports writers is small compared to other journalism schools.

you should make the chart as our rank vs carolina's rank.. and note wins and losses... then you'd really be able to see the media bias

I actually considered that, but it might get too busy, and it would be difficult to display wins and loses on the same chart. I will think about it.

FLASH. I can make four charts and slap them side by side. That will work.

Okay guys, here it is. I will update all the charts weekly as the new polls come out. I decided to do polls and wins / losses for the Big Four in the ACC. Pay attention to the graph titles, because colors are reused. Also note that the scale on the ranking axis for UNC is altered because of their initial low ranking. Try to put these graphs at the head of Page 2 if and when we get there.

Also note how Wake jumped from 20/21 to 16 between weeks 5 & 6 without playing a game.

The Pomeroy ranking has us 7th now.

But in the eyes of the AP, I'm sure all our wins are just flukes. GW must've just been overrated.

Washington #7 lost at home to Arizona and UCLA #11 is down to Cal at the half. Two possibilities in moving up. Also Oklahoma is playing Alabama right now. A Bama win would be good in two ways for us. Increasing SOS and knocking Oklahoma lower in the polls.

Since George Washington beat Maryland, and we beat George Washington, they should just give us the 12 spot and give Maryland the 13 spot...just to be fair, haha.

Speaking in hypotheticals... If we managed to win 2 games this week, and went to 13-1... When is the last time we had that record? I know we had a nice streak either last year or the year before...

I am normally a pessimist, however, this team seems to be clicking on all cylinders now. I dont think Carolina will be able to compete. I am guessing we beat them by 10+. This team isnt making all the mistakes (losing games they are supposed to win, big hot and cold nights on shooting, being consistantly outrebounded) that the previous teams did.

UNC doesn't know how to defend the 3, as evidenced by the USC game.

And somehow we seem to be able to handle pressure D this year.

I agree.

I didn't know what to expect coming into the season, but this looks like the best team we've had since V left.
