So raving that I'm making up random economical facts to support my argument!

this is partially true...

but show me where i can get comparable tech for under $600. You can't. Thus, it is not overpriced. In fact, it is a good deal.

^^The term 'overpriced' implies that they are tacking on a premium after they build + bundle it.

They're not. In fact, they are doing the opposite.

That layman enough for ya?

most 'cutting edge' technology is overpriced.

'overpriced' means the consumer pays too much for the product.

what you're saying is the term 'overpriced' is completely subjective.

Well yes, a lot of consumer electronics is overpriced. Especially if you buy from a story like Best Buy.

I'm actually starting to question your understanding of the consumer market at this point. Before I just thought you were a fanboy.

Guys, FanatiK is just dumb.

We figured this out like a month ago in the thread that devolved into HD-DVD/BluRay argument.

So the guy wants to waste his money (LOL $600 CHUMP CHANGE I AM SO RICH) on an overpriced piece of electronics and will resort to borderline retard level reasoning to justify it.

I mean, for god's sake, this is the kid who used a raw Google "matches" count to justify the popularity of something. He's obviously working with some faulty hardware upstairs.

Which, honestly, could explain his Sony hard-on.

Stein: I get it, $600 is too much for you to spend on a PS3.

furthermore, in the thread you referenced, I was simply making the point that Blu-Ray is superior technology (vs HD-DVD). That's a fact, no matter how you slice it.

You are claiming PS3 is overpriced.... What is the market value then? What is your basis for that assessment?

I just think it's funny because the PS3 is priced well BELOW market value.

So tell me. $600 for homebrew Linux, a shitty game catalog, terrible backwards compatibility, and a fancy DVD player that didn't upconvert on launch...

Worth it?

or

Totally worth it?

Stein:

1. the game catalog leaves a lot to be desired at this point, you are correct.
2. homebrew Linux, yeah sure, some really good things are going to come out of that.
3. terrible backwards compatibility? Is that what you read on the internets? Cuz every single one of my old PS2 games plays without a hitch.
4. I'm pretty dissapointed that upconversion for DVDs wasn't included out of the box, but it IS coming.

For my $600 I got a Blu-Ray player (worth more than the $600 I paid by itself), and (with a little work) a full-fledged HTPC. Oh, and it plays games too.

What was your point again?

No, because you're assuming Blu Ray players are market value when nobody is actually clamoring to buy them. See your argument is going to revolve around trying to claim that its a steal because it has a Blu Ray player when there's really no Blu Ray movie worth buying or wanting and when comparisons to movies hot in both HD and Blu ray show HDDVD being better. This was already hammered into your stupidly thick skull quite some time ago in the HD DVD - Blu Ray thread.

The console market value right now is about where the 360 is priced, possibly lower.

Let me break it down for you:

PS3 features you listed:

Homebrew Linux!

-Get the fuck out of this thread. If you really want to mess with Linux, be a man and put it on a cheap machine and tinker with optimizations like a true nerd. Otherwise don't tout this feature.

Blu Ray DVD!11

-The 360 HDDVD player is only 200$ and works with any Windows XP computer. 360 Not required.

Games!!11!1

-lol

WiFi

-Our Xbox360 was camping our wifi network just fine through a wireless gateway.

Free Online!11!11

-By your own admission, nowhere near as polished as XboxLive. Will sony ever make it that cool? Judging from Sony Connect, no. Never.

And the best part of this is going to be when Stein or me or Quinn pick a PS3 up for way under 600$ in several months and have just as much fun, if not more, then your I CAN PAY 600@#!%@ dumbass now.

considering the PS3 can play both PS2 and PS1 games (~95% of them, at least), I dont think you can say that.

It's got more games available for it than your precious year-old x360 at this point.

SandSanta, that's all fine and great (to be honest I didn't even read it).

One thing you didn't mention: Cell. It is unique and has lots of potential as a processor. I know because I've used it before.

You really ARE a moron (or just really out of the loop and in that case, should just quit now) if you think there is ANY difference in the quality b/w HD-DVDs and Blu-Ray. If your mind is too feeble to understand WHY the earlier Blu-Rays weren't up to snuff, I can't help you.
