indeed, Harvard also does this but to an even greater extent, what's funny is they get very defensive if you mention it saying you can belong to any group you wish....

i thought the whole point was to get past the 'groups' mentality.... so much for the 'higher learning/social consciousness' of Harvard....

they also protest randomly it seems.... about stupid things.... like the anniversary of GWB second inauguration...

ok i could understand protesting the first one as that was a highly contested election.... but why bother with it later over that? protest his policies maybe but his inauguration?

eh, i think thompson should be renovated... would make it a more enjoyable experience and more students would be more likely to attend stuff there.... I'm all for it...

very true, our SU kinda sucks.... much too 'office' like....

I'd like to see a new SU with a mix of offices for groups, meeting areas, study areas, etc. where harrelson now is.... shit, you can even make it octagon... chopped up like a grid inside, with the triangle corners and squares either being lounge/meeting/study areas or offices or a mix.... like a computer lab in the middle square, the four triangle portions being study/lounge/meeting areas with couches, chairs, tables, with a wall desk lining the wall with stools (glass outer wall (angles) and brick (square's) then the other 4 squares being offices for student groups...

hmmmmmmmmm........

i want my part of that money back. i dont support this crap. along with a lot of other things that fees are used for. i don't get any special treatment around here and i shouldn't have to pay for someone else to. you want to talk about rights and awareness? honestly, what rights to gays not have on campus? who doesn't know about gays that hasn't lived in a cave for years? for crying out loud we had a banner on the atrium for a year saying that all are welcome with a big freakin rainbow triangle on it.

i don't think anyone should be abused or excluded for any sexual preference, but i don't think i should have to agree with them or pay extra money for someone's special treatment when the cost of college is already expensive enough.

THE FUCKING TREES ARE DISEASED, AND THERE IS A GENERAL LACK OF LANDSCAPE PLANNING, ORGANIZATION AND ORIGINALITY

REMEMBER WHEN THE PRINCETON REVIEW SAID WE ARE THE UGLIEST LAND GRANT INSTITUTION THEY HAVE EVER LAID EYES ON?? "

this phase has already begun and it should be fully underway within the next few months. one of the first things was the free expression tunnel. some of the landscaping around there is a theme or preview of what will be done around campus in the next few years.

a lot of aesthetic pleasing designs and renovations are about to be completed to our university. please don't make statements if you do not already know about what is happening on campus to begin with.

no trust me they are not underway

ive spoken with people that work for grounds and maintenance, the school refuses to purchase disease resistant cultivars, and they have refused to listen to even their own professors

perhaps direct me on where to look for these improvements, im sure all they are doing is bringing in more crape myrtles and stuffing them whereever they happen to fit like always

not saying you are wrong, but as of two weeks ago the arborists that work for state were bitching about the lack of cooperation they get from the university

http://students.ncsu.edu/senate/bills.php?mode=bill&lid=39&cs=

that is the bill itself, no where in it is the LGBT center mentioned at all. There is no money this year going to them. That guy may have the student center and the LGBT center mixed up.

but if you can find the LGBT in that bill let me know.

i dont see how having this ludacris. Homosexuals are arguably the most attacked minority group you will find on campus. Other groups may face more discrimination, but its still socially acceptable to attack and persecute homosexuals and thats exactly why this center is needed.

they did an absolutely amazing job on leazar. it's probably the (it is) coolest building on campus now. the black brick is really nice. the landscaping that they're doing between withers and daniels is also pretty nice, too. the landscaping around talley and the bookstore i bet will be nicely done as well. oh, and don't forget the free expression tunnel area.

but seriously. leazar is cool. they cut out quotes in the railings and stuff. i wish they had put that much effort into EB 2.

i know they're going to re-open up the creek down by the track, too. give it time.

that's a really good point. it's still in the social norm (albeit slightly on the fringe) to call someone a faggot or something similiar, but completely uncool to call someone a nigger either to their face or indirectly.

this weekend a friend of mine was having a conversation with me and used the word faggot probably about 5 times in under a minute. when he was done, he kinda realized it and profusely apologized, saying that he hoped i didn't take it personally and that he didn't mean it towards me (i'm gay)...i think that having the center can really help in shifting this idea of it's "ok" to just talk like that in front of someone, gay or not. the words have weight, and helping people realize that can only be a good thing.

Yes, we must continue until the brainwashing is complete. Promiscuous sex is not only acceptable, but mandatory, not only is it ok to be gay (which it totally is) but it is WRONG to be religious enough to think it is wrong...

What exactly is wrong with people thinking homosexuality is wrong? I think adultery is wrong, but I don't tell people its okay to beat them up.

I can give you some quick speculations ... probably nowhere near accurate, but here we go:

Director $50,000
Assistant $25,000
Grad-Student $10,000
Furnishings $15,000 (carpet, furniture, computers, etc.)
($100,000 cumulative)
Initial Marketing $50,000 (pamplets, literature, maybe a conference, etc.)
Misc. Program Costs $50,000
($200,000 cumulative)

Yeah, those last two aren't ultra-specific ... but it's kinda hard to anticipate exactly what "start-up" costs will be.

haha, you should go to that Dumbass Center you mentioned earlier.

To be more on point, what you are advocating is religious intolerance. There are some things in this world that are wrong. Some people believe the final word comes from their holy book: the Bible, Quran, etc. Muslims think eating pork is wrong, but we're obviously not making a pork eaters center. There are people who are naturally inclined to be murderers. Obviously, we can't go around saying murder isn't wrong and that we should be especially tolerant of these poor saps who can't help but kill people. Likewise, most Christians promote the idea that you should hate the sin, not the sinner. Everyone in the entire world is a sinner, so hating someone because they commit homosexuality when you tell lies isn't really in the church doctrine. But, they would never advocate a center for teaching people to accept sin and encourage others to commit it.
