OMG SO FUNNY HOW THESE PEOPLE DRESSED

meanwhile, all of your kids will be laughing at what you look like now.

the only thing that really hasn't changed is that the elderly still dress like the elderly. there's some wisdom in that, i think.

I heard Eastland Mall is now closed. That makes me super sad. That's where I went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and would have nightmares about falling over the third level railings onto the ice.

^^^ Eastland Mall has been closed for a while now. I think there were only one or two tenants left when I arrived in Charlotte and that was about three years ago. But they do have a nice, new bus station out front on Central Ave. though.

You summabitch! Haha. Those escalators can go to hell too! So sad to see the ice gone though. That was the first place I ever went skating.

Childhood fears ITT.

I saw Jurassic Park at Eastland mall. I think that may have been the last time I went in that place...they had a sweet arcade though. Mall arcades were the best.

I found an arcade at a mall in the DC/Maryland area recently, can't remember the name of it but I played the hell out of the pinball machine.

There's a pretty crappy arcade in Four Seasons mall in Greensboro

Cyberstation was the 2nd arcade in Crabtree. The first was called Aladdin's Castle.

Oh man I loved that Aladdin's Castle. Sometimes, probably when my parents just didn't want me hanging around, they would give me 20 bucks and leave me in there for like 3 hours.

The house where my family lived when I was born was near Eastland Mall; my mom would tell me that she used to walk around there with me in a stroller. We moved before I was two though (late 1982), so I never saw the inside of it. Drove past the mall and the house when we visited Charlotte in the mid 90's and it looked like the neighborhood was going downhill even then, not surprised it's closed now.

Holy shit, that's still there? The one at the corner of the food court? I remember it being next to Arby's and Steak Escape, but that was in the late 90's.

As for the ice skating, i went there for shits and giggles one day right before they decided to close the mall with a friend, and they turned the ice skating rink into indoor soccer fields.

I know a guy that used to live next to and hang out at the mall that was used in Dawn of the Dead. Doesn't get any cooler than that. I've been to see it. That clock tower is still there.

I don't think that arcade closed until 2007 or 2008 (maybe a few months before the crabtree cyberstation did). They did pretty well until all the managers Namco left around here were all the total douchebags (Asian guy, I think Mike? Julie? - some butch chick? Some trailer trash Adam guy?)

I was friends with so many managers at Aladdin's Castle at Hanes Mall. So many great memories of that place.

1) Won the Time Crisis 2 tournament.
2) Anyone remember when Adam was the manager? Tall, white guy. He modded the Tekken 2 machine (the big ass one) so that it would work with nickels. 10 plays for $1.00!
3) Adam would let us all in after it closed and put the games on free play. We'd be there in until 11:30 or midnight.
4) Dropped acid so many times while hanging out there.
5) If you wanted drugs, all you had to do was walk directly across to Frank-n-Stein (and talk to Shell, which I assume was short for Michelle).
6) Really awesome people hung out there. Liz, Raven, Michelle (not the same as from Frank-n-Stein), Gerald, Scott (Gerald and Scott always wore the black trench coats), Stoney, Damien, etc.

i think the reason Eastland Mall closed down had something to do with all the gang related fights and shootings that occurred inside the mall

I don't think it's been that long because I remember when it closed since I was working in the mall at the time. So it couldn't have been any earlier than 2004. I think it might have been early 2006 that it closed and a bunch of nerds were raging in the food court.
