Show in Fayettenam this weekend..
Who's goin' besides me?
I hear this show's excellent for rifles and shotguns. And of course military-esque firearms.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about a Rock Island Armory 1911. I like 1911's along with everyone else and was wondering how it compaired to the more expensive brands. RIA is more in my price range but was wanting to hear any negative or positive things about the gun. Also are there any suggestions whether or not to get that or a 357mag revolver. Since this is my first gun I want to minimize any bad decisions about what to buy first.

that's sorta like asking "should I buy a Ferrari or an H1 Hummer?"

they're both cool, but TOTALLY different weapons. personally, i prefer automatics. if you prefer revolvers, the 1911 is never going to be your best bet, no matter how awesome it is. there are pros and cons to autos vs revolvers, but i'd say the biggest thing is simply what you want.

from there, we can get into the nuts and bolts of whether you should buy, say, a Rock Island, a Springfield, or a Kimber...or maybe even a 1911 vs maybe a SIG (although there's still a huge personal preference issue there)

I have a guy who is looking to sell his new model G23 with a Lasermax internal laser, two extra mags, and 1250 rounds of ammo for $790

I wasn't looking to get a new pistol...I am kind of on the fence on this one. Yes or No?

For a defensive weapon, I prefer an automatic.

I prefer revolvers for just about everything else: extended range shooting, hunting, plinking, and target punching.

is there a wait (background check) to purchase shotguns and rifles, or is it just handguns in this state?

Anyone ever go to a C&E show? They're at the fairgrounds next weekend. http://www.cegunshows.com/

I've been to a bunch of the Dixie Gun & Knife shows and they're so-so. I'm wondering if the C&E show is the same, worse, or better.

Is a 7.62x39 norinco SKS with a plastic stock. Bayonet, flash suppressor, 3rd banana clipand a bipod stand worth $300?

meh, don't buy that chinese garbage. The price is only high because the US banned them from importing a while back.

Yugos all the way I say, I got one in mint condition for $100 less, and I love it. Personally I like the look of the grenade launcher and bayonet better on a Yugo and synthetic stocks are for ARs, not classics like the SKS.

Go to the shoe isle in Walmart/Kmart and take some of the packets out of the shoe boxes. They're only for storage anyway, and people just throw them out.

200 bucks for a shotgun is going to be cheap. You get what you pay for in a gun.

Thanks for the 411 on the C&E show colter.

What about other shows in the area? Fayetteville? Charlotte? Greensboro? Are any of these better than the Dixie shows in Raleigh?

I was there recently. The $299 Berettas are 96s in .40S&W. The 92s in 9mm are $349. They also have a bunch of Cougars in .357SIG under $400 and a 9mm Sigma for $279. I think all the other used guns were over $400, including two SIGs that looked nice (and a HK P7 for $1200-1300 )

I've got an all black Remington 870 Super Magnum Express, shoots 3 1/4 shells, plus a soft carrying case that I no longer use. Only a year old, perfect shape. If anyone is interested.
