I'm lucky enough to live in an apartment but Raleigh water... my mom and her neighbors just got bills for $100-$150... for 2 months of water... not even HALF was for water usage.

I'm almost shocked at this. My mom has never paid more than $60 for water in her life and suddenly this? Anyone else experiencing this or did the meter guy just falsify readings or a program auto guess?

Could be a leak between the meter and the house. That happened to us once. The water bill doubled in one month with no apparent change in usage. We left the water on (at the meter only), locked up the house, and came back to find that we had used several thousand gallons without ever turning on a faucet. They had to dig up and replace the supply pipe. However, given that it has happened to more than one family in your case, I suppose that's an unlikely explanation.

did they up the rates?

i know that while i was there they implemented the storm wastewater charge based on how much sq. ft. your land covered.

it's steadily getting more expensive to use water in NC, unless you have a well. if you do have a well, then you'll have asshole people reporting you to the city and forcing you to put up a "we have a well so fuck off" sign.

Maybe we're still in a "7.5 weeks water deficit", as told on the news.

Lack of an item = higher prices. EC 201.

Ok I hate:

the 16.60 "storm water" fee... it hasn't rained in like a month... and before that it didn't rain much at all
the 5.20 recycling fee... we have never recycled a single can through the city... in fact I used the city recycling bin (plus a clean liner) to make the last liquor luge...

thats $21.80 is random unneccessary(sp?) charges... thats a case and a half of beer or an entire trip to a bar!!!

My bill is weird too. It says my usage is 10, but it has always been 3-4 in the past.

Good thing my apt complex pays the water bill. Fuck them for charging us $840 for a 2BR/2BA anyway. Not that it's that bad, shit's just fucked up.

Probably akin to people paying money in property tax to the public schools even though they do not have children. You pay into the program regardless of whether or not you use it.

Over the past year Cary's water bill has gone up little by little (so no one will notice IMO) to the point where it is $10-$12 more a month for the exact same usage. I'd have to check the records, but it also seems like the water bill comes every 3.5 weeks as opposed to once a month.

What happened to the water bills in Raleigh where you would get one bill for $40 every two months? I remember thinking that Cary should just piggy back on Raleigh's services and only charge its residents $30 per month as opposed to the soon-to-be $50/month.

yeah so i guess paying higher water bills is gonna help the city make more water to help us out of this "drought"

whats even worse is the water restrictions in effect, so you cant even use what you are paying out the ass for.

I checked my meter this morning and they had misread it. I called in the reading and they are going to send me a corrected bill.

my friend just got an outrageous water bill, and they called the water company, who said that they had used 8000 gallons of water...they just moved in two and a half weeks ago.

I spoke with the water company today. They just recently implemented a new computer system. Ask how to read your meter and call back in. I read my mom's and her neighbors for her and they were way more that it should have been.

What i think happened is either the records for the past month submitted by the meter readers was lost or they couldn't get a reader out there and estimated based on your acreage.
