Just came in the mail. I finally got paid and went to look at the earrings I picked out to go with. They are sold out! I am truly heartbroken.

^ fun dress!!!!

I want to go shopping SO bad!!!!! I need some spring/summer stuff. I purged so much stuff from my closet last year all I seem to have now are tanks and cardigans. I want to stock up on more dresses and skirts for work.

I loved that dress so much too but I've already got a sequined dress sitting in my closet that I've never worn. granted, I bet that one looks a lot better, but my life is decidedly unglamorous as of late. I started working from home and all my friends got pregnant and disappeared so I have little enough occasion to even change out of PJs these days.

Today I was thinking about how much I want a pair of skinny jeans. I was drooling over a skinny jean/flowy tank top combo. But I've never owned skinny jeans and I'm not sure they'd look right on me. I just may have to crash Erica and Cassie's shopping extravaganza

Linda you should come by one afternoon I have skinny jeans in a million different sizes. A few of them were super long on me so I bet you would find at least 1 pair that could fit.

Or come with us on Sunday!!!!!! I only wear skinny jeans now.

i'm not sure whether this fits better here, in the wedding thread, or in the pregnancy thread...but it's more fashion related so here we go...

i SUCK at girl stuff. i have no idea how to put things together, especially when it comes to dressing up. so trying to find appropriate dresses for the variety of events associated with my brother's wedding is driving me crazy. i've shown a couple of things to my mom & she's like "what?? that's not appropriate for a wedding!" well, fuck, it's a dress. i thought that was good enough.

i have a cocktail buffet party thing on the 24th to go to. it's coat & tie. then in may (4th & 5th) for the actual wedding, i have to go to a bridesmaids/outoftownwomen's brunch, rehearsal dinner/afterparty (if i can stay up late enough), and then the wedding/reception. it's in beaufort SC & the wedding is outside. i'll be 6mo pregnant. these people are of the southern proper rich folk type, so that will play into what i wear i suppose.

a coworker saw this online & if it fits, i'll wear it on the 24th & possibly to one of the wedding events. mom had a small fit at my suggestion to wear the dress twice but i told her i am pregnant, i have a valid excuse, & i'm not buying 4-5 maternity dresses to wear ONCE.

http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=6035&vid=1&pid=890329&scid=890329012

the other issue is shoes & accessories. i do not & will not wear heels. i own an extremely uncomfortable pair of black ballerina flats & maybe some sort of very low black strappy shoe (haven't seen them in years, not sure if they still exist). i don't know how to match dresses with shoes with jewelry, and the only jewelry i own is made of legos, has some sort of hiking/appalachian trail theme, or is body jewelry type stuff - circular barbells & the like.

soooo i need to accomplish this as cheaply as possible. plus i'm in RM & will have to make a saturday day trip if i need to go shopping in raleigh.

I'll give you my two cents...pretty dress by the way!

you can do some fun patent leather flats in a bright color or these nude suede ones from GAP and you will be fine (since you're pregnant you can get away with not wearing super fancy shoes!!)

then pair with a colorful chunky necklace (it will fit in with those people haha j/k)

like this
http://www.vestique.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=33&product_id=2106

or

http://www.vestique.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=33&product_id=1761

or

http://www.vestique.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=33&product_id=1772

If color doesn't work you can go with:

this

or

[Edited on March 15, 2012 at 11:42 PM. Reason : vestique is in raleigh but you can order and have it shipped to you in RM ]

and if you don't want to wear clown jewelry you can just get a simple silver chain necklace or earrings at most department stores

if these really are snooty rich people types, maybe a slightly longer dress (longer knee or tea length?) would be more appropriate for a cocktail/evening situation

hi ladies! I could use some advice regarding shoes. I made a pdf of a bunch (really, a bunch) of options that are available in my size/price range. If any of you are so inclined to help out, I would appreciate any suggestions.

thanks!

I didn't say to buy an expensive dress

but that one up there is definitely summer casual, not wedding cocktail

here's another at Gap that's just a solid LBD option:

^^^^wow that is some intense shoe research!

do you usually wear pretty high heels? i really like the K&K daffodil if so. those are too cute. i think the peep toe shoes the model is wearing look good with that dress so i don't think you can go wrong with the peep toe! if you couldn't see yourself wearing something that tall/fancy very much i think all of the rocket dogs are cute and look comfortable, for me it would depend on which color matched the dress best. except for the last pair (wet cement thai silk) i think the piping makes them look more casual. i also really like the silver pair at the very bottom!

thanks for all the suggestions. keep them coming if you have them!

the cocktail buffet is like a shower or whatever, not actually part of the wedding. idk if that changes anything. the bridesmaids/women's brunch is at the fiance's grandparents' restaurant (big hearty fattening breakfasts). the rehearsal dinner is ummm at the same place i think. the wedding is at old sheldon church ruins outside of beaufort. the reception is at the uncle's restaurant in downtown beaufort that's like a fancier offshoot (& oyster bar) of the grandparents' restaurant.

and yeah, we will be the trash at this event

thanks for the thoughts ladies! Seriously - it really helps me out!

@LuckezCharm: haha I know right! a bit of overkill, but then again, I am kinda ocd I normally don't wear heels... ever. I used to wear them often (several years ago), and I wore really high ones. I'll be putting in a lot of practice in them to make sure I don't bust my ass in the ceremony, but we're all going to have some flats to switch to later in the evening if need be. the rocket dogs are definitely more casual, but the thai silk material is almost a dead match for the dress material. (And I agree about the shoes on the very bottom- they are my absolute *favorite*, but they are only available in champagne and black, not silver. I like the daffodil, because they are close to that style in a possibly-doable color)

Right now, I'm leaning towards some of the nine west shoes - they are doing a 25% sale on regularly priced shoes right now, which helps out. FeelNGood are cool because of the shape, but I'd probably wear Orra, Frontal, or Booboo more after the wedding.

The Nine West shoes that I chose in the beginning (Feelngood)

or the Nine West Booboo

--------------

se7entythree...I was just giving you options if you wanted to not look out of place If they're as Southern Proper as you say, you will see lots of chunky jewelry that stands out from the dresses.

I had a similiar experience of possibly choosing silver shoes as a bridesmaid. I found out it was more of a cluster fuck than originally thought, and now I'm not buying any new shoes, and wearing black ones.

Anyway, I love, love the rocket dog ones. I would seriously own a pair - if they weren't like, 4" heels. But, if you're used to wearing high heels, then those! Any of them!

i really like the color. it is so damn hard to find [any] maternity clothes with color. i'm not sure why they think we just want to wear black & gray all the time. i really like that it covers a little more in the shoulder area too.

is it wedding event(s) appropriate?
