agreed! which is why it's so important for the left (both the progressive left and the moderate/centrist left) to fix what is wrong within our own camps so that voters will WANT to vote for us instead of the anti-intellectual right.

Then the real discussion can begin instead of the hand wringing on permissiveness and crime. They want the cops to suit up in riot gear and crack skulls. Some things I regularly witnessed being around it for a decade:

- openly masturbating on public transit
- using drugs openly on public transit
- setting fire to structures (vets and doctors offices in one case) in proximity to a tent encampment
- obstructing public facilities like the post office where they were unusable by the public
- attacking old people that walked by because the old people couldn't walk in the busy street and preferred to use the sidewalk
- mountains of hundreds of stolen bikes. In the open within view from major road. You see this a lot.

After the 19th arrest maybe put them in a work camp? That statistic gets thrown around about 90% of crime committed by 3% of offenders.

I get the pushback. You lock up the 3% then when GEO needs profits juiced you arrest the blue hair for talking about Gaza. But fuck if living around it is not a drag. Character building. But a drag.

LA spent a billion a year and increased funding dramatically while I was there. Homelessness moved from contained in skid row to residential areas (but not ones in Brentwood and the expensive parts of Santa Monica).

Schizo homeless people do not respond to treatment but developers do respond to $500K tiny homes paid for by gov even if the schizos won't take the housing.

There are dozens of types of homeless people. Some may be fixed with a wage disparity solution. The type that shoots heroin into their penis on the street is not going to be helped by those solution solutions.

I never claimed this would help everyone; I only wanted to point out one example of something you may have missed.

And I disagree about your heroin penis. I don't think people are born shooting heroin into their penis. I think one becomes that way through mental health issues, and I think financial problems are absolutely a factor in many mental health issues.

Specifically I pointed out people masturbating on the bus and openly shooting heroin on the street. I'm concerned about that group. That group may not have been born shooting heroin, but the practical matter of living around it causes severe harm to the regular "citizen". They need to be removed now. Preferably before they set fire to an old lady, a vet clinic, or stab a Ukrainian girl on the train. It's horrible they could have been an upstanding citizen, but the fact of the matter is they harm hundreds of people by stealing bikes, assaulting people, leaving needles on the street, and recklessly setting fires on the street.

Any solution to the general homeless problem is going to have someone take advantage of the situation. Currently billions of dollars are spent. Primarily that seems to go to real estate developers to make "affordable housing". Most of the aforementioned people setting fire to people on the subway are not going to take the free housing (muh drugs). No doubt there is the single mom laid off with no family that gets some help with those programs. In addition, some children are going to be born to those people and need some kind of assistance. But those people are not the ones blocking up the Post Office with their tents.

Maybe you think there is some way to stop that by helping them in their youth, but the practical matter is there is a problem today. Letting people out on the street when they've been arrested 20 times is not how you fix it. "Suicidal empathy"
