The problem is he will likely be playing center for us just like Howell is now (Painter/Vandy could develop I know). I will say if Gathers has a huge wingspan it could more than make up for his height deficit. Don't get me wrong he would be an awesome pickup but I am simply not sold on the possibility of a 6'6" player being Gottfried's only "big man" recruit.

Chuck Hayes is the shortest Center in NBA history.. at least I read that somewhere. He's 6'6, and while he's not very good for the NBA, he is in the league

There are exceptions to every rule however there is a reason why they are called exceptions... He may be an offensive beast I am just concerned with his ability to defend bigger players which he will have to do in the ACC.

On The Wolfpacker podcast today they mentioned we were recruiting SG Anton Wilson, who I had not heard about before:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/wku/basketball/recruiting/player-Anton-Wilson-104607

Looks like he reclassified from 2013 to 2012:

Vid about TGraham's saga and playing at a creedmor hs (hopefully won't generate any unnecessary bashing):

And check-out the alley-oop from a kid ranked #1... in the 2018 class. 2018.

^I found that on PP, and then found this SI article from 1986 ranking the #1 prospects all the way down to 6th grade: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1065494/index.htm

Then I found this follow-up SI article from 2004: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1032491/1/index.htm

Other than POSSIBLY for a few minutes every now and then, this guy will never be our primary center. Quit making up shit to make your argument look decent.

it does not look good for us landing Amile Jefferson. lots of folks close to him say he's nearly certainly going to commit to Duke...would be a shame, but there is always hope...

^^ Ok I will play your stupid game. Who will be playing center after Howell/ Painter graduate? Are you banking on Vandy being granted a red-shirt and developing enough to be a consistent starter and play almost 40 mins a game? Or are you dead certain that we will get someone who can play center as a freshman from the 2013 class? Picking up a legitimate PF versus a severely undersized one would allow us a little more breathing room and hopefully give us a better front court defensive presence.

I mean...we already have Howell and Painter for another year. So that's not even a question. Vandy has already met the requirements for being granted a red-shirt...so that's really not a question either.

So we have Howell, Painter, and Vandy for 2013 and Vandy for 2014.

I don't see how this is going to be difficult. Our backcourt is going to be stacked going into that year. We already are, and will continue to heavily recruit front court players for that class. I assume we'll probably get two serviceable big men to go along with Geathers (hopefully), Vandy, Harris, TDT, and Warren in our C/PF/SF spots.

That should be fine. You lose.

^ Harris is not likely to play PF have you not even seen his game? He plays more of a G/F. And without any assumptions about who is coming from the '13 class our starting front court would have 1 player on the entire roster over 6'8". That is a serious front court problem when you play in the ACC. If you don't see that as a problem please rewind the footage from our last two losses and watch Scott, Henson and Zeller scoring with ease over our front court.

^ Where did I say Harris would play PF?? Small forward is a frontcourt position and you are smoking crack if you think he's ever going to play guard.

Having only one player over 6'8" is okay if that one player is over 7' and you have several players at 6'8".

Henson/Zeller/Scott are scoring easily over every team's front court except for FSU (I thought we actually did a decent job against UVA's frontcourt...Howell had friggin 18 rebounds to Scott's 5).

So as long as we land a couple bigs in the '13 class (along with at least a Geather's for '12)...then we will be perfectly fine.

^ As a blanket statement I would agree with this. But it still remains that we're getting destroyed inside by taller front courts.

there have been a million undersized PFC who have had great success in college. If the guy is a stud, great.

You guys wouldn't have wanted Trevor Booker?

We need some to add some big-man depth this class. If not Amile, then Gathers, if not Gathers, then somebody. They'll play behind Howell/Painter next year, and we'll have a 5th year senior in Vandy for the 13/14 season, a junior TDT, and hopefully a stud 2013 recruit. We should be fine. I'd be extremely happy with Gathers in this class.

Well, yeah, but he's only a freshman and it's his first few months in the U.S, and he's only averaged 6 mins a game. Hopefully noone was expecting anything more from him, there wasn't any hype behind him. He's got 3.5 years to improve.

^I'm not worried about a European struggling to adapt to the American version of this game. He's physically ready to play and I think he'll be ready to go next year.

I don't think we were counting on him to be a significant contributor this year. It would have been a pleasant surprise, but not a must. So I don't see that as a failure.

Did you really expect a freshman who doesn't even speak English to come in and pick up a new system as soon as he got here? It's tough enough trying to come in and contribute right away as a freshman, give the kid some time.

he's an okay rebounder but hasn't shown any other ability in games so far.

One thing I've noticed is that freshman "shooters" are almost never good at shooting.

I think part of it is nerves and learning what kind of shots they can get at the next level. I also think a bigger factor is weight lifting. Most freshmen have to add significant muscle mass which can really disrupt your shooting mechanics.

It's too early to dismiss TDT completely, because he seems to be a heady player. I don't think he'll be good by next season though because he's so far away from being a contributor now.

I see TDT's role as a hockey style goon who gets under the other teams best player's skin. Rile them up a bit and maybe get a cheap T. Dean Portman and shit.

and I think TDT will be okay next year, hes good enough to get playing time this year, so a full year in Gottfrieds system can only help him

yes he did, he may have not been amazing but it was definitely apparent we had gotten a good shooter his first year

8 ppg
3 rpg

he was solid for a fr, the biggest complaint was his defense

Jefferson will wait until after he's done with the hs season before announcing.

If he wanted to go to Duke, he would have committed soon after they offered... right??

Deshawn Painter is by far the ugliest guy on our roster now, especially with how he buzzes his hair down (sorry bro).

TDT has a very rugged look to him that is similar to Ron Pearlman, and he can pull it off.

However, our incoming stars Rodney Purvis and TJ Warren are both good looking guys, especially for a bball player. So, we should be loaded with chick eye candy next year.
