^^ 10.61% return in 1 hour

I was getting worried as the stick price began to creep back up towards its intraday high

I made a quick buck on Apple today too.
I decided to get out before tomorrow. The stock usually slides a bit the day after Macworld or a big announcement like this. I'm hoping to get into it long term and I'd like to wait for it to dip a bit more before doing so.

I believe I might also start buying up some GE, mainly as a long-term stable blue-chip stock.
TRID seems to have recovered a bit today from yesterday's losses.

Anyone know what happened with the Bellsouth/AT&T deal? Specifically I'm looking for how many shares of AT&T the BLS owners received in the deal...

what's your take on GRMN?

got out of ILF - unfortunately people on TV already started badmouthing it before i got around to placing the trade.

i'm tempted to ride some of Apple's momentum...

GRMN had a good run over the past few weeks until someone downgraded their recommendation to neutral yesterday.

I'm fairly certain that it will bounce back sooner rather than later. Historically they unveil new products in January and have yet to do so at this point.

wouldn't now be a *good* time to buy XLE and hold it for a while, or maybe start DCA'ing money into XLE while it is down...

yeah, i like the business prospects for GRMN a lot. if the price will stay down (or preferably fall another 50 cents or $1), long enough for my money transfer to scottrade to go through, i want to get in on it.

GD is up 8% in the 7 days since I bought in - most likely because of W's decision to send more troops and equipment overseas.

Guess that makes me a war profiteer.

Got an offer from First Command as an advisor today....gonna move back to Fayetteville and do it. The don't sell individual stocks which I don't like but they are going to roll out a fee for service platform so I will at least be able to build a model stock portfolio and tell my clients how to use it and jump online for their trades.

The company gives you 300 existing clients and there is no real "cold-calling." The only catches are that I am self-contracted although they do give me a draw and that I have to furnish my own office....so if you guys know of anybody looking to unload a nice L-desk or anything.....

But back on topic.....

I made 11% on UPS since August in 2006
and 12% on SLASX (no-load mutual fund)
SKYW continues to be an airline that does very well for me.
And as soon as Mesa gets back up a few points I am going to dump it!

....but then again I am going to have to dump all of it so I can get my biz started

Why do I always read the articles about not being able to figure out the fees for mutual funds? Can't you easily look the fees up on morningstar or something?

So, is an ETF like a stock and an index fund like a mutual fund?

Let say I wanted to buy something which represents the Dow. Which type would that be?

an ETF is like a mutual fund that trades like a stock.

Since you don't get the higher fees with an ETF, you won't find many actively managed ETFs as you would with mutual funds. Basically, while you can get both a mutual fund as well as an ETF that mirrors, say, the DJIA, the ETF will have lower expenses. All Index funds that I own are ETFs.

Some examples:

• Dow Jones Industrial Average (30 large stocks; popular indicator) (ETF: DIA)
• NYSE Composite Index (all companies on the NYSE) (ETF: NYC)
• NASDAQ Composite Index (all companies on the NASDAQ; technology-heavy) (ETF: ONEQ)
• NASDAQ-100 Index (100 large NASDAQ non-financial stocks) (ETF: QQQQ)
• S&P 500 Index (500 large companies; general market analysis) (ETF: SPY)
• Russell 2000 Index (small-cap stocks) (ETF: IWM)
• Wilshire 5000 Index (total U.S. market) (ETF: TMW)

Truthfully you can't. Those are reported prospectus expense ratios. The actual expense ratios are generally higher because of portfolio turnover and unforeseen expenses. First off, for every 100% turnover in a fund, assume about a 1% increase in the expense ratio. They aren't required to report that in the prospectus and they don't. Fee services are the best way to get at the true fees. Morningstar reports last years actual fee if you click the expanded "fees and expenses" link, but another problem is that many funds put a temporary max on the management fee for a while and then when it goes off, the fees hit the fan.

as for this board though, it's all bulls cause half these guys are Warren Buffett prodigies

TRID to announce Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2007 Earnings

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070118/clth514.html?.v=62

Quote :
"SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID - News), a leader in high-performance semiconductor system solutions for the multimedia and digital television markets will hold a conference call for interested parties of the financial community at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, January 24, 2007. The Company will release earnings after the market close on the same day"

This is huge because TRID has not announced earnings in two quarters due to all of the option scandal mess. If it's as good as has been projected, TRID should take off finally. Or if it hasn't, well.... that will suck.
