Umm...yes it does. If you want to cost-justify something, you better give some good reasons as to why. I'm sure he has well-informed people with good information behind all of this ... but whoever wrote that speech needs to be fired.

Actually it does. If you want to pay the extra taxpayer money for every little "good thing for society" , be my guest, I sure as hell don't want to.
They have a bunch of spreedsheets on the website from the Summer Campaign. In one week's time in NC: ~2500 patrols/checkpoints combined, ~1200 DWIs, ~4000 seatbelt violations, ~10000 speeding violations ... good revenue for the state.

Off topic but related to a different off topic post, didn't feel like creating a thread:
I bought a car that was about 4 or 5 months past the inspection date. I went to get it inspected and they put a sticker on it that said that I had to get it inspected one year after the time when it was originally due, not one year after the time I was getting the inspection.
In other words (since I am so bad with them) - the car was supposed to get inspected in May. I bought it in September. After inspection the next inspection was scheduled for the following May, not the following September. It made me feel like the inspection process is more of a "let's get 30 bucks per vehicle per year" scam than something reguarding safety. You would think that an inspection guarantees the safety of a vehicle for a year - in which case the inspection should have been good until September. Either way I feel jipped for having to pay for someone else's delinquency.

I'd say it depends on how long you plan on not driving it. By not registering it you save $30/year on the inspection and depending on where you live about $40 on the yearly registration. I'm not sure if they would know about it to charge the property tax. Compare that to the money that it would cost for re-buying new tags. If you are only going to keep the car off the road for a few months I don't think it is that cost effective.11/17/2005 7:31:12 AM |
