I really hate Asheville but im having to go.

Would like to take my better half out to a restaurant that doesn't smell like weed or hippies. Give me a few of your recommendations.

Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack

Get the Rocky's Hot heat level if you aren't a baby.

be aware that downtown Asheville has a real lack of late night food
but there's good places to get dinner, just not anything later than that

I like:

Ukiah (Japanese smokehouse)
Chestnut (for non-adventurous eaters)
Sovereign Remedies (fancy cocktail bar with grub)

I don't visit Asheville much anymore because it bums me out and my spouse and I don't drink

What side of town will you be on and what is your budget?

The spots I have taken the wife recently and would recommend are:

Asheville Proper - Nice (overpriced?) steaks
Modesto - Fancy Italian. Prob best if you love seafood.
Red Ginger - an adventure for me because it’s the widest variety of Chinese dumplings I’ve encountered, and I know literally nothing about them, etiquette for consuming, etc.

I haven’t been in a very long time, but I always used to enjoy Early Girl when we would travel to Asheville back in the day.

Trying to remember where we've been the last few times we've been there

Chai Pani (Indian, hard to get in)
Nine Mile (Carbiean/Jamaican)
Curate (Hard to get in)
The Blackbird
Jargon (West Asheville)
Gray Eagle Taqueria (Music hall, but we really enjoyed the food too)
Limones (fancy mexican)
Rhubarb
The Admiral

THey were all really good, from what I remember

NC’s best burger is at the Rankin Vault

The Vault Burger. have sent so many friends there over the years, and they all agree that the burger is incredible.

I go a couple times a year for work, plus the wife likes to go for anniversaries and what nots. We usually don't get too fancy with our eating while we are out there but some of our favorites (several have been mentioned already):

12 Bones (RAD location is still closed but the South location in Arden is still open and serves dinner too)
Nine Mile
Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack
Biscuit Head (for breakfast)
Standard Pizza Co.
Burial Beer Forestry Camp (south of Biltmore Village and has a pretty nice beer menu plus lots of indoor and outdoor seating areas)

our favorite brunch spot is Sunny Point, but there’s almost always a long wait

Early Girl rules for brunch, too

Oh yeah totally forgot White Duck. The RAD location got wiped out and I sometimes forget they are a small chain and have another location more in town nearby.
