I'm trying to buy Christmas gifts for some of my friends' kids, and although I know what the girls will be getting, I am clueless about what the boys will like (ages 6-10). Thus far the only ideas I've come up with are Star Wars themed T-shirts or hoodies. What other themes are a hit with the kids this year? And what gifts are the safest (legos, tees, etc) that they won't dislike?

PS: What size T-shirts do boys that age wear? I'm so confused.

Thanks.

^ Since their mother is dreading having the birds and the bees conversation with them, that doesn't sound like such a bad idea, she'll thank me

there are two gift ideas threads in the lounge, within the first 3 pages.

in both of them, i have posted links to websites that sell stuff you won't find anywhere else.

look them up. you will thank me for them!

Are they directed towards kids? Will it be too much work for you to repost them here?

^4 Actually I know exactly what their interests are...Wolfpack Sports, Canes, Star Wars, Surfing, etc etc. But they have enough of everything in those themes, thanks to the grandparents. So I need fresh/unique ideas now.

Yeah, I'd thought about that. Maybe I'll use small BN gift cards as stocking stuffers.

Don't let the pussification of America continue. Take a stand. Those boys need Red Ryder bb guns.

You could ask their mother. I'm sure she knows what they want/need/wear.
I always hated when people got me clothes for Xmas. They were never really what I wanted.

I think they have an idea about what goes on there. The other day the 9 year old goes "<myname>, how do gay people have sex?"

Maybe I should answer that in detail (with pictures and all) for Christmas

you should give their mom the book It's Perfectly Normal by Robie Harris (illustrated by Michael Emberley)

that should help her with the "birds and the bees" talk
at least take some of the dread out of it

also, What's Happening To My Body? is a good book for such things when they're a little older

how conservative are the kids parents?

some people really don't want their kids to know the facts of life (which happen to include contraception and *gasp* homosexuality)

here's the link on Amazon

^Actually that's not a bad idea at all. Maybe in a year or two they will be ready to get such a gift from me. Their mom is super cool, but her estranged ex is just the opposite...he may send a hitman after me if I go with any of those crazy gift ideas above

an illustrated kids book on sexuality is crazy?

It's Perfectly Normal is intended for kids in their age group

the What's Happening To My Body? series, I feel, is a little more sophisticated

Well how about starting this year, we start making these boys a little more cultured and civilized?

It depends if the police state can see the bb coming out. Gotta account for the wind and everything.

I dug mine out of the attic the last time I was home. It's the funnest damn toy I've got right now. No cat is safe (not that it'd break the skin or anything)

Legos, board games, etc. How about both of: Something that they can enjoy but also learn from, and a mindless toy?

You know the problem with legos is, once they build that thing up for the first time, they break it down and then those little buggers are flying all over the house and the dogs keep choking on them, so I'm definitely not going with legos. I definitely need to find some cool board games, I may have to make that trip to Toys R Us after all.

Thanks for those links OEPII1, pretty cool stuff.

What's so uncultured or uncivilzed about any of those hobbies anyways? I don't feel like bragging about these kids, but they are very well mannered and cultured...

Hey megameg, what other books (or types of books) does your brother enjoy? I'd like to give them books that they will be excited to pick up and read.

If they like legos and board games, how about Mouse Trap? You get to build stuff and play the game.
