Sorry to make another gift thread...
I'm going abroad again for Christmas. Any suggestions for Christmas gifts that you probably wouldn't be able to find abroad?
My friends are German, Dutch, Spanish, and French... I was thinking food... American candy maybe, but almost all of it can be found over there I think. I'll be cooking some Southern dishes for a family, but something else more unique and non-edible might be cool. Books maybe?
Any ideas? 11/14/2005 6:17:32 PM |

Some friends-of-friends from Scotland came to the US for a visit and went apeshit over like, $5 t-shirts from Old Navy with American flags on them.
How about clothing with some snarky text on them (in English, of course). I think that would be a great novelty. 11/14/2005 6:45:44 PM |

I second the velveta cheese, when I went to Europe over the summer I was asked to bring that and chocolate chips. 11/14/2005 7:55:24 PM |

I knew a guy from Norway once and everytime he went home he would take turkey basters with him. He swore that you couldn't buy them anywhere over there and that he wasn't some kind of perverted weirdo.
His mom bought one on a visit and pretty soon, all her friends wanted one.

I wouldn't recommend giving American candy to Europeans. No offence, but it pales in comparison to ours
How well do you know your international friends? Why not put some thought into it and get them meaningful gifts?
