Quote :
"As he campaigns among the state’s notoriously grumpy electorate, presidential candidate Rick Santorum has spent as much time arguing with prospective voters over same-sex marriage as he has asking them for their support. In the most recent flare-up on the campaign trail, the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania was challenged Friday about his opposition to gay rights and President Obama’s health care plan.

“I have a question and it’s about gay people,” asked the first man to be called on at a Santorum town hall meeting here today. “They are children of God too. Do they have the right to marriage? Do they have the right to serve in the military? Should they be treated like any other citizen? Under your presidency, would you protect their rights or would you diminish them?”

Santorum answered that he doesn’t believe marriage or serving in the military are inalienable rights, but “privileges,” adding, “It’s not discrimination not to grant privileges.”

[...]

Santorum was interrupted several times during the nearly two-hour event. The local fire chief asked about 50 people to leave the overflow crowd in the basement of the Keene Public Library, spurring further complaints from the audience. At another point, a man shouted “Wall Street got bailed out! We got sold out!” And a band of supporters of rival Republican candidate Ron Paul took to singing carols in an adjoining room."

if I were anywhere near Santorum, I'd walk up and throw a 20-week old dead fetus at him and then run away, just to see if he would cuddle with it

haha, even better, I'd just walk up with it and ask Santorum if he'd kiss my baby, lol

Santorum is the most unelectable guy running. The media put him next to Romney to ensure that Romney (who is the least threatening to major corporate interests) wins.

So is he going to "endorse" multiple people saying any republican who wins the primary should be elected? Or is he going to "endorse" ideas from his own platform rather than candidate?

And who else you got? You think that Paul is electable with his far left opinions on foreign diplomacy? Every other GOPer is just waitin to push the red button on Iran while telling americans that "the deficit is too high, we have to cut spending". The whole lot of them are a bunch of elitist, greedy pigs if you want my opinion.

His views on foreign policy are in keeping with the Constitution.

He's been consistent his whole life.

Far left antiwar is anti any war like being anti ww2. Being anti pointless wars is only reasonable. Paul is the first politician since kennedy who isn't far right on foreign policy.

Can someone give me a 1-5/6 ranking of how socially conservative the remaining candidates are? I'm having a discussion with my roommate about how socially conservative Paul is...I say not much, and he says a lot. Plz to rank. Thx.

I would say Paul is really socially conservative, but because it's not in the Constitution he won't act on it as much as, say, Santorum would.

Paul's isolationism is basically correct. The wars bankrupted the US government and led to massive printing. If we had only the social programs or only the wars to worry about, we may have been in better shape right now.

It's much easier for the commander-in-chief to unilaterally spin up and spin down war spending, so that's the obvious place to act.

Reagan/Bush-style defense spending is dangerous. It unilaterally and rapidly grows the size of government. It's harder to cut than grow, and people try to convert it to social spending rather than shrinking the size of government.

Republican defense spending is a passive aggresive tactic to force the government to make a cut by creating huge deficits, but it never succeeds. We just devalue the currency every time.

I found this funny.

http://www.lineofdeparture.com/2012/01/10/new-hampshire-and-vietnam/

Quote :
"Or the fact that like Massachusetts missionary Mitt Romney, Gingrich seems to surround himself with defense advisers comprising the Rolodex of the military-industrial complex. It begs the question of why BAE doesn’t just cut out the middle men in New Hampshire and run for president, taking Raytheon as its VP and installing Triple Canopy as our SecDef."

I kind of think that kind of jab would make a good campaign ad. Although, it could be used for Obama almost equally.

""I have a pen and some paper right here," Obama said Wednesday morning at a town hall meeting in Ohio. "Let's list the pros and cons of being president. Con: You can help 40 million Americans receive health care, sign legislation that regulates a financial system run amok, give the order to kill Osama bin Laden, help topple Muammar Qaddafi's tyrannical regime without losing the life of one American soldier, end the war in Iraq, repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, stave off a second Great Depression, take out more than 30 top al- Qaeda leaders, and somehow everyone still calls you the next Jimmy Carter.""

(Side note, Colbert is currently polling higher than both Huntsman and Perry in SC )

Newt Gingrich is saving Obama tons of campaign money with ads like this.

http://youtu.be/IGqtLvPk6mo

Also this is by a pro-Gingrich PAC,

http://www.kingofbain.com/

What do you call this? Political Kamikaze?

-----

And here you have Romney creating more and more soundbites for Obama to use against him.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/romney-questions-about-wall-street-and-inequality-are-driven-by-envy/2012/01/11/gIQAJ6L2qP_blog.html

"QUESTIONER: When you said that we already have a leader who divides us with the bitter politics of envy, I’m curious about the word envy. Did you suggest that anyone who questions the policies and practices of Wall Street and financial institutions, anyone who has questions about the distribution of wealth and power in this country, is envious? Is it about jealousy, or fairness?

ROMNEY: You know, I think it’s about envy."

This guy is completely oblivious. He is going to get murdered in the general election.

So the best the GOP has to offer is a Mormon who lost the nomination 4 years ago.

Not that there is anything wrong with mormonism but I can see much of the conservative base not being rallied to run out to vote in November for a non-Christian (in the traditional sense).
