I don't actually know anyone IRL who is a Rick Santorum supporter.

^^ i bet Santorum is a closet homosexual too.

^That says more about you than Rick Santorum.

I don't know anyone in real life who was hard-core for, or even very sympathetic to, Obama's 2008 candidacy. But I recognize that is only representative of the circles I live in.

McCain got a hard question on his sponsorship of Romney and had absolutely no answer. He had called Romney in 2008 "a manager not a leader", and when asked about it on CNN he was all "Well, politics is a collision sport, but Mitt and I agree on many issues herpaderp...."

I don't know why he wouldn't just respond honestly.

Back then we were opponents in a political race, so of course I'm going to go after him any way I can.

For some reason, people prefer consistency over honesty, even when they're blatantly lying. I don't get it either.

Holy shit, I fucking hate Rick Santorum.

http://youtu.be/1Gwwmm-cQxU

Santorum: "They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and regulations low, that we shouldn't get involved in the bedroom or in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world."

To be fair, "conservative" is nearing uselessness. It changes every decade, and for the past ten years, conservative has been used interchangeable with Republican. None of that changes how offensive his statement there is, though.

Santorum is a joke. The media talks about how Ron Paul is unelectable, but Santorum takes unelectability to a whole new level. The guy would get thrashed in every single swing state. This is a guy that took home his stillborn child and slept with it between him and his wife.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A61804-2005Apr17

Quote :
"In his Senate office, on a shelf next to an autographed baseball, Sen. Rick Santorum keeps a framed photo of his son Gabriel Michael, the fourth of his seven children. Named for two archangels, Gabriel Michael was born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the womb.

Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.

"That's my little guy," Santorum says, pointing to the photo of Gabriel, in which his tiny physique is framed by his father's hand. The senator often speaks of his late son in the present tense. It is a rare instance in which he talks softly.

He and Karen brought Gabriel's body home so their children could "absorb and understand that they had a brother," Santorum says. "We wanted them to see that he was real," not an abstraction, he says. Not a "fetus," either, as Rick and Karen were appalled to see him described -- "a 20-week-old fetus" -- on a hospital form. They changed the form to read "20-week-old baby.""

I remember seeing an article or interview with more detail. Seems creepy as hell to me.

I get the point they were trying to make to their family. If you're that hardline on fetus=baby then I can see wanting to hammer the message home to your children.

But that's a really extreme way to do it. Creepy extreme.

well of course, they go about oppression all wrong...

Women should be allowed to go to school, just not have jobs afterwards
Gays shouldn't be publicly executed, just social lepers
Your shouldn't be forcibly restricted in your religion, just have every public policy favor the "right" one.

Wars shouldn't be fought in order to simply spread your ideals and influence.....errrr well, at least they can agree on something

so, his wife wrote a book on etiquette for children. i wonder if she includes a chapter on how to introduce yourself to a dead fetus, lol

Rick Santorum may be a nice guy, but the fact that he is running on social issues with the economy that we have says something.

It also gives you an idea of how Iowans vote: they are values voters.

So, if we take that out of the equation and negate his votes in Iowa, Ron Paul comes in second to Mitt Romney.

I don't agree with anyone who says that birth control should be outlawed.

I wouldn't even say it's unacceptable or "not okay", it's just fucking weird. It's your baby, do what you want as long as it's not a threat to public health, but it's still going to change my opinion of you.

Dunno where your grandma lives, but if she's in California ( and you take a time machine back to the 70's) you could only get charged with stealing the clothes she was wearing.

Does it matter who won? I mean by that small of a margin, they both receive the amount of delegates. No one will care about Iowa after New Hampshire.

Not really, the state convention assigns the delegates anyway. IIRC Ron Paul could end up with the most just by virtue of his supporters being devoted enough to actually know the rules for Iowa's delegate process.

It's just amusing, after they make a huge fuss in the media about "winning" Iowa and potentially they've declared the wrong winner.

^^I thought that the media had guesstimated that based on the distribution of caucus support, Paul and Gingrich would end up with no Iowa delegates, Romney would get 13, and Santorum would get 12.

With that said, here's a lovely chart by the Secular Coalition of America: http://secular.org/content/2012-presidental-candidate-scorecard

^^ Huntsman is the only Republican candidate I (as a staunch Dem) wouldn't mind in the presidency. He wouldn't be my ideal president, but neither is Obama and he's easily better than anyone else in the race. The key thing about him is that he's consistently conservative. I can begrudgingly take conservative fiscal policy as long as the "get the government out of our bedrooms" brand of social conservatism is being used.

I really hope that he does decently enough in the primaries to make a name for himself for 2016. Assuming the Dems manage to put up someone sane it would be the best election since I started voting.

Whether or not it is a choice or from a genetic disposition is irrelevant and does not warrant anyone from taking away their civil liberties.

I would bet that it is in our animal nature to be bisexual, and that gays who say that can't love a woman are just as blind as straight men who say that couldn't love a man. Given all of the scandolous gay love affairs and the double standard given to women on this issue, it seems obvious to me that sexuality is nothing more than a social construct.
