In 8 1/2 months you will be in more pain than you thought possible and wishing you had been smart enough to use condoms.

Then the spawn will make your boobs sag, you'll have stretch marks, weight you'll never be able to get off, and hopefully the guy will still stand you. Trying to build a relationship while you are a crazy hormonal preggo bitch is not gonna be easy.

And if it doesn't work out with him, expect 2/3 of guys to not want to date you because of the kid.

I think we all wanted to say it.

I mean I'm a pretty mature person. I have a good job and am furthering my education. I also have a girlfriend of almost 7 years...

I don't think I am even close to being able to emotionally and financially handle a kid right now...

The man is only 25!

I'm 25 and there is no fucking way I could stand a kid right now. Having a kid early makes saving for retirement pretty much impossible. By the time the kid is out and you have extra money again, you're close enough to retirement that you are completely screwed.

Waiting until you are 30 and putting 1/3 to 1/2 your income into retirement savings is a great way to prep for a kid. You are learning to live on what will be left after you pop out that little black hole and you're not completely screwing yourself in old age.

If you look at the financial aspects of spawning, it's scary. There's a reason the breeders have so much hate for DINKs. They realize they could have had all that if they'd used condoms for a couple more years.

I'll be 27 in September... and it's more like 6 years... but I just don't think I could handle a kid right now...

More power to someone who can...

** and the reason I agree with gunnz and nc86 is because I remember a thread she started where she stated she couldnt even afford to live by herself in Knoxville... that wasn't TOO long ago... maybe the father is well off?

^ that is a good point... I wouldn't be able to pump as much in my 401(k) and Roth if I had the added expenses of a kid... I really do want kid(s)... 2 to be exact... but not yet.

But still, it's way better to admit you shouldn't have one than expect everyone else to pay for your kid thanks to welfare and WIC and food stamps. I don't see myself ever being "ready" to have kid. Didn't pick that path, got snipped to make sure there were no surprises. I'm not gonna cry about having to join a DINK support group that does track days instead of a kid-care co-op.

I hope she found a nice sugar daddy.

I'm all for federal regulations that say you can't have kids until you're 30 or have been married for 2 or 3 years.

Think of how fucked up the past generations have been....and now these generations are going to be having kids....

there is no amount of luck that can help this kid - your maturity level is nowhere near where it should be to have a kid - hopefully your parents help you out a lot but due to the way you turned out it's uncertain if that's a good idea

Ouch....but funny (also not funny, because you feel bad for the kid).

In these situations, I always like to reference "Matilda," by Roald Dahl. She had horrible parents but turned out fine.

yea i'm all for forced abortions as well. and plenty of people turn out more fucked up with married parents than from being raised by a single parent or by a couple that isn't married. marriage is NOT the solution to everything here people.

Marriage is not the answer BUT requiring it means people have to plan before they spawn, not expect the gov. to pay for their bastard kids. I think that unless you apply for a parenting permit a year before it's born (showing you were planning on having the kid, and could afford it) you should have to go through some SERIOUS parenting classes and evaluations in order to keep a kid. Fewer people would have to go overseas to adopt then, and we'd have lower taxes because we weren't paying people to keep kids other families want and can afford.

dude you don't have to adopt from overseas, there are plenty of babies with in the U.S. you can adopt. it is just trendy to adopt from overseas. and i doubt the taxes would be lower because someone would have to pay for the SERIOUS parenting classes.

that is way way way WAY too much government involvement.

^well maybe that woman would have the parenting permit, duh

That sounds more fascist / statist than classically liberal. I'd rather have people fucking up on their own than a coordinated clusterfuck controlled by bureaucrats.

exactly.

a classic liberal view would be a government funded parenting program perhaps. but not forcing people to take it and certainly not certifying who is suitable/unsuitable to have a child. besides judging by the changing nature of humans, someone who gets knocked up at like 20 and is in college and "poor" may seem like an "unsuitable" mother, but may end up being a really great parent. you can't just have such generalizations. everyone born into a single parent home/poverty/whatever is a fucked up baby.

besides who says the government is any more qualified to choose suitable parents? last time i checked politicians did not win the gold star for excellence in moral character.

also, this isn't china.

I wasn't being serious about the federal regulations....just saying that we are having too many kids brought into this world when the parents aren't ready...and its sad.

Hate on my ideas, but what we have obviously isn't working.

No one bitches about having to have a license to have a car. Raising a kid is far more difficult, but no one wants to make sure people are suitable before they start doing that.

if anything happens with you and baby's daddy, don't use your kid as a pawn. don't try to keep him away from his child unless it's legitimately in the child's best interest (and not some dumb shit that you rationalize in your crazy jilted chick, possibly postpartum mind). Don't fucking sue him in court. if you need a legal agreement hammered out, try to do it non-contested--it'll be MUCH cheaper, faster, and better for everyone concerned. if you REALLY have to make it a contested deal (like he won't help out financially at all or something), remember that just because our fucked up family law system allows it doesn't make it right or a good idea. If you are awarded more child support than is really fair, you don't have to take it. If you can get him more time with his child than he's actually awarded, you should probably do it.

hopefully things work out for you two, and if they don't, hopefully you can both act like grown-ass adults (especially since you're supposed to be mature enough to be parents and all, now), where the court fight won't be needed. in a worst case, please be fair to the father even if that isn't the way the family law system is geared, no matter how much your precious little feelings are hurt that he doesn't want to be with you. If you can't do it out of general decency and willingness to do the right thing even when you don't have to, do it for your child (if you try to be difficult, it could push him away from the whole situation, including his child. if you take more of his money than you fairly deserve, it will negatively impact how much time he can spend with his child, how much he can travel to do it, what he can do with his child, etc. If you try to screw him on visitation, that's obviously bad, but women do it constantly for some unknown reason. finally, even if you aren't together, it will be better for your child if you and the father and least maintain an amicable partnership as parents.)

I know you're probably sitting there saying "Oh, I'd never do those things." Well, I've personally heard that one before, and seen it in other cases, too.

Oh, and one more thing...if you really have to take the legal route and hire a lawyer, hire one who's out to do the right things, out to be fair, wants the best interests of the child...not one who has any agenda, or some monstrous personal ego that he has to try and swing for the fences on every pitch whether or not the situation warrants it or if it's the right thing to do. Also, you're a big girl, now. YOU call the shots, not your lawyer. Take his advice, but every decision is ultimately yours.

There is WIC, foodstamps, child support.....I am sure the guy will not stick around and she will get a double wide somewhere and raise the bastard child. Most likely, she will have one or two more by different guys on her quest for love.

^^Speaking as one of those children affected by a nasty marriage and an even nastier divorce I personally know what it's like to be the kid in the middle. I wouldn't do that out of my child's interest. Thanks for the advice!
