I think you are confusing sports dislike and real life dislike. I sports HATE pretty much anyone related to UNC sports, but I real life am neutral.

K coaches Duke, Duke and K have been the source of much sports misery for myself and state fans in general. Duke and K play State every year and repeatedly block our path to ACC chips. I know Duke fans I have to hear from when they win.

On the other hand, this incident is one of a tiny handful of incidents where Kentucky has directly affected State and made me sports sad. We don't play Kentucky. I don't know Kentucky fans. Therefore I find it hard to find much Kentucky hate in me.

Any truth to the rumor that DSJ committed to state because of the adidas affiliation?

^according to those that know it may have helped us land DSJ. i seriously doubt that's the only reason he picked state. he grew up a state fan, is from NC, we'd been recruiting him a long time. the adidas factor may have been a point in our favor, but i doubt it's the reason he picked state

Our affiliation with adidas definitely helps us get in on some recruits, but I think the role of shoe companies in recruiting is overblown by fans/message boards.

I'm curious why recruits care about apparel deals too

One and done...their next move is the to the NBA. Adidas wants to give them a shoe deal...therefore don't go to a Nike school.

That's the basics of it.

yeah...i guess i get that. but if a player is good enough, can't they kinda get their pick of the lot when it comes to shoe endorsements?

i know he was on team loaded which is adidas...so he's just being loyal to that?

Nike, UA and Adidas have a vested interest in seeing top recruits wear their products (free advertising). Top recruits have AAU coaches and other handlers that are heavily involved in their recruiting. Essentially, they function as agents for the recruits, and if coaches try to go around them, they get blackballed.

The apparel companies pay these AAU coaches lots and lots of money. Some of these AAU coaches are aligned with Adidas, some are aligned with Nike. But they make money as long as they keep sending their top players to the school associated with their particular brand.

Pay-for-play. It's not that complicated.

actually it's a LOT more complicated than that...but a bit of it is inside stuff with Adidas and the recruits themselves.

It's gonna be a huge issue in about 10 years when other schools start catching on.

Parity in college sports is a good thing, and now you can see why lots of schools that had good years back in the day are coming back strong now.

Also, thank Gottfried and Debbie for that Adidas deal...it'll definitely help in the next 5 years. BIG time.

out of the three I think we had the worst chances with him anyway. I think he'll stay at home and go to FSU.

Rawle is our only hope in my opinion but it might be a tough sell without Bam.

We definitely need some bigs right? Possibly won't have 1 or 2 of the only 3 we have right now. Even if it's just some 3* to sit behind somebody for a year and maybe be better in 2017

Gott has a way of making sure things work out, whether it be Juco or transfers, or whatever. I really thought Bam was a lock until the W&M game and the rumors that swirled around after that. We need to throw the sink at Rawle (though he's going to be a spring signee) and put out feelers for whoever else we can. Rawle is local and will definitely be around the program a lot. We just need to show him that we're a capable team.

At this point I'm just hoping for some UNC scandal meltdown news to brighten my day.

shut out of what? alkins and udoka? we definitely won't swing and miss on every other recruit...maybe the big 5 stars (aside from DSJ, obviously). this class might not turn out to be the top 3 class we thought it would be, but it'll still be fine

We don't have any other hs recruits. At this point it's Alkins or Udoka, or offseason grad transfers, reclasses, etc.

^this.

We couldn't be openly talking with other recruits when we were trying to get Bam and company because it would lead them to doubt that they're our shining star, our one and only, etc. It would also make them think they have to compete for minutes.

I'm sure there are 3-4* guys that would love to get an offer from us. The key to success is the coaching staff's ability to develop the talent they have and fit them into a system that works given their abilities. You have to have some success with middle tier players to recruit top guys, which I think we've had, and is why we were able to get DSJr and get so close to Bam.

I'm disappointed too, but we are far from meltdown mode - especially this early in the season. W&M played their superbowl against us and hit us in the mouth when we really hadn't had time to work out the kinks.

^^^what i meant was...the staff has, in every single class so far, gotten transfers, late signees, reclassifications, etc. we won't go into next season only adding DSJ

We always lose one to a WTF OOC team. Glad to get it out of the way early. Didn't UNC lose an opener to some shit team and then win the NCAAT the same season?
