Won't play next year, but would be a really nice addition for the '16-'17 season.

"Four-star shooting guard Maverick Rowan announced his top six schools on Twitter on Monday night. The 6-foot-5 Rowan is a former Pitt commit who is one of the best scorers in high school basketball.

Rowan is still considering Louisville, North Carolina, N.C. State, St. John’s, UCLA and Wisconsin. There has been some debate as to whether Rowan will stay in the Class of 2016, or try to graduate high school this summer and enter college basketball next season. According to ESPN‘s Jeff Borzello, either class is still an option for Rowan and he could add an additional scorer to any of these programs.

Regarded as the No. 43 overall prospect in the 2016 national class, according to Rivals. Rowan was the seventh-leading overall scorer in the EYBL this spring at 19.2 points per game as he ran with E1T1."

This guy would help make up for the loss of Turner if he came this year as he's supposed to be a great shooter. I know Dorn said we were trying to sell him on the Lacey role. Gott could have a lot of pieces at his disposal in a couple years if we got them and if we also ended up with Smith and Bam, although he would also have to manage their minutes and try to keep them all happy, which hasn't really worked well thus far. A team with the likes of Smith, Dorn, Henderson, Rowan, Caleb, Cody, Kirk, Bam, Freeman, Anya, and maybe Abu seems like it would be fun to watch, but we've got a long way to go to get there.

What kid wouldn't love to live the college lifestyle as soon as possible and to play as a starter next season as a scorer/shooter.

I'd be ALL over that playing here if I was him

I find it odd how easy it is anymore for these players to "graduate early". When I was a high school junior, I certainly couldn't have just decided to jump ahead and be a senior. Obviously things have changed, but it seems strange. /old man rant

you probably could and you just didn't know it. I know I took atleast 4 "extra" classes. 3 of them being weightlifting cause I was on the football team. I easily could have graduated a semester early without trying very hard.

We had to take 4 years of English.. I don't know how you fit that in 3 years. But I think schedules are different now so classes are only a semester. I'm old.

A lot of these guys are staying behind a year and reclassifying to a lower grade.

by doing it in the summer after your 3rd year, and not taking all the other "extra" classes. 3 + summer = 4

students who fail can make up an entire year in summer school

Yeah, I mean I has taken every science class my HS had to offer by my sophomore year. (Biology, chemistry, physics, and this joke of an earth science class. Well I didn't take what most freshmen took - physical science, because it was basically middle school science revisited).

In my limited experience with high schools, they just want to stick everyone in the same classes and give you a hard time if you want to take classes out of the order they expect you to take them.

They would rather you take like bible history, shop and fucking newspaper/yearbook than actually learn stuff.

Basically, if the students/parents push hard enough, it isn't hard to have the core credits to graduate before 4 years are up, even without summer school/community college classes.

I think these kids that reclassify are on block schedules where they take 4 classes a semester instead of 7 all year classes. Therefor he probably took his 4th English in the Fall semester.

or summer school like previously mentioned (seems unlikely though with AAU)

Rowan or Dorn, doesn't matter to me. Rowan is supposed to be the better shooter but Dorn's scoring and efficiency can't be ignored. 12 ppg, 50% shooting as a freshman is no joke. I'm guessing that he will be a ~15 ppg scorer as an upperclassman.

Moving forward, our team for '16/'17 is shaping up nicely. Wings galore (Henderson, Caleb, Cody, Kirk, likely Dorn or Rowan) plus 2 or 3 bigs with lots of experience (Anya, Abu, Freeman). We just need a point guard to bring it all together if Cat leaves, and it sounds like Dennis Smith Jr could be that guy.

Difference between Rowan and Dorn, is that only one of them would be available to play next year(if Rowan indeed reclassifies).

Having either would be great for practice, but not sure I trust the idea of Henderson playing back-up PG when he hasn't played PG since high school.

I certainly don't expect to have all 3 of them around by then, but I'm sure we'll have 1 or 2 more bigs waiting in the wings at that point.

As much as I'd love Abu to become a reliable big man and rocket up the draft board, he'd have to play similarly to his best game from this past year every single game to put up those kind of numbers. I haven't even seen a 2016 mock draft that has him listed. Hopefully his path will be very similar to Montrezl Harrell's (14 ppg, 8 rpg sophmore year) and he leaves after his junior year a sure first rounder.

Either way I like our outlook with the front court moving forward. We have Freeman, Abu & Anya in '15-'16 (hopefully Anya will be thinner & have some sort of offensive post move) and then either have the same group in '16-'17, or one of Abu/Anya goes pro (with an incredible season) and we are in a good spot to land Adebayo.

Rowan won't be reclassifying to play for us. If he does, it means that he's headed to Louisville.

Henderson won't be playing any PG. He's a wing through and through. I think the plan is to have Cody or Caleb handle backup PG duties if we can't get another PG recruit or transfer.

"Charlotte transfer Torin Dorn has committed to North Carolina State, he told CBSSports.

Dorn was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year after leading the 49ers in scoring last season. He averaged 12.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while starting half of Charlotte's 32 games.

Dorn was one of five players to leave the program after Charlotte parted ways with head coach Alan Major. Former NBA player Mark Price, who had been serving as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Hornets, was selected to replace him.

Dorn had reportedly been deciding between the Wolfpack and the Miami Hurricanes.

Dorn is a Charlotte native. His father, Torin Dorn Sr., played six seasons in the NFL as a defensive back."

Kid reminds me of a taller Dez Lee...maybe even a bit like Purvis because we all know now how overrated he was...but it matches up with this guy

Agreed about his skillset being like Lee and Purvis. He gets most of his points around the basket but he can shoot some from outside when given space (unlike Lee). Good athlete with a decent handle who scored very efficiently against C-USA opponents. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how that translates vs ACC defenses.

He'll probably be an energy guy off the bench his first year or 2 if he can crack the rotation. Lots of wings on this team...

Just watched the highlights, but from the little I can see, it looks like this guy has much better touch on his shots and floaters than Purvis. He's got a really smooth release, which usually translates to good shooting.

Love the athleticism and put-backs around the rim too. If there's one thing we struggled with last year, it was getting easy baskets. Think back to how many tip-ins we got with TJ. Need more of that

^we do have plenty of scholarships to play with. the staff is probably assuming cat will go pro after this season too. i'd think if the staff was anticipating a transfer, that transfer would've already left instead of playing another full season before transferring. and i'd imagine that any staff is always prepared (or as much as they can be) for any unforeseen attrition.

Of course more transfers are coming, has there been a year with Gott at the helm where there wasn't a transfer?

However, I don't think this is a Gott specific problem though. This just seems to be the status quo in college basketball in this era. There is a de facto free agent system where players are looking for more playing time as opposed to more money.

No school loyalty like when Damon Thornton and Justin Gainey were ballin in the halls O'Reynolds.
