^right, the reclassification hurt him.

http://abc11.com/sports/shaun-kirk-submits-letter-of-intent-to-nc-state/688094/ that's where i saw the UNC-W thing...sports reporter in that video claims UNC-W was his "only solid offer" for 2015 prior to state's offer. but others were definitely interested.

Quote :
"Kirk said he chose NC State because it's closer to home and in the Atlantic Coast Conference."

I mean he's coming so yea... but I'd rather hear something like...

"I like coach Gottfried, I like the current roster, I like the passion in the fans"

He said two things that really don't define the "basketball program"... Just a location and the conference we've been in for forever.

I mean I feel a compliment should have been said about ole Gott, not slobbing Calipari
Quote :
""It's a dream. That's every kid's dream to have Coach John Calipari call you," said Kirk. "And that's something that I was blessed to have and I had to hear what he had to say.""

haha this kid knows how to make friends in the locker room really quickly.

glad we landed him, and it says a lot about our recruiting that we found him before other major programs took notice.

^^ Dude is still in high school of course he's in love with Cal with the way the media has been slobbering over Kentucky the entire year. The media is powerful. Besides, he's probably read the Gottfried's credibility watch thread and saw the constant comments abut Gott's being a sucky in-game coach and defensive strategist.

who cares if it's a dream to have calipari call you? for the last 10 years he's basically been the best recruiter ten fold...so a 17 year old kid will definitely think that. He chose state for a great reason, and i'm glad.

^^^^^,^^^ are yall serious (i know you're not^^^^)? there's nothing wrong with stating that location and the ACC are why he chose state, and that he was really excited about an offer from calipari. he chose state, that's all that matters.

I don't care what he said as long as we got him. He could have said that his palm reader told him that Sagittarius was in the 7th moon phase of Capricorn and that's why he chose State.

Location is a huge factor for a lot of recruits. I mean, look at Malik Newman. Kids want their parents to come to their games and, especially if they're broke, it makes it more difficult when you're several states away.

we should only recruit kids who are die-hard NC State fans and slam the door in the face of every other school.

Feast your eyes on this mother fucker. Hopefully Smith will continue to throw those lobs to Kirk in a State uniform in two years:

Guys... guys... you are confusing me with the pessimistic state fans. I dont care why he chose us either and it wont affect how he contributes to the team at all.
But as a fan of basketball too, (not just NCSU) I just would prefer to hear some conversation about basketball, not location and a conference we belong in. Gives the fans things to discuss on lunch breaks.

in the premium article PP posted right after his commit, they had comments from his uncle/mentor (but not Kirk himself since it was fairly late on a school night) and he talked about how good of a relationship Kirk had with Coach Moxley, how much he liked the fanbase, that he thinks we have a chance to compete for a national championship, etc. it's not straight from the horse's mouth, but it's not like Kirk doesn't like things about our school.

I'd think so. Courtney Fells was a pretty highly regarded high school prospect. and when he was on, he was a pretty good college player. he was just inconsistent, and imho just played too timid sometimes.

When he was on he was a good shooter. He still couldn't dribble to save his life.

Fells could have been so good. That whole class should have been better. Too bad they had one coach who never played them and one who was in the running for worst in conference history

(I know you're joking) but some people were seriously saying this on PP after UK offered. Why pull his offer - punishing yourself and the player - when all Kirk did was field a phone a call from UK/Calipari?

Then again - I don't know why I'd expect better from PP

fells wasn't a great ball-handler, but i think it's a pretty hyperbolic to say "he couldn't dribble to save his life". in fact, in one of those highlights above, he does a decent job of dribbling to the basket.

He couldn't really dribble, but I think it was more that he couldn't create shots. He was either going to jam it or catch/shoot. He was good 3 and D player, but he could've been so much more. I kinda thought the same thing about Bennerman.

Courtney Fells on a team like we have had these last 4 years would be SICKKKKKKKKKKKk

one of the best dunkers we have ever had and that block. Holy crap!

imagine if every one of these 4 years just throw in McCauley one
Hickson the next
Costner the next
pick any from the next. We would have been SICK!

Fells was infuriating. Perfect example of not having the drive to play basketball at a high level even though you have all the physical tools.

http://zagsblog.com/articles/sterling-gibbs-to-visit-ohio-state-uconn-expects-to-decide-soon/

Not much new info but this makes it seem like he may not even visit. He would be an almost perfect like for like Lacey replacement. Scoring combo guard.

(And maybe just coincidence but a UConn guard just transferred out)

^ He would, but I assume he's worried about getting the minutes he wants. He played a ton at Seton Hall. We have Cat and Henderson who should get a ton of minutes next year. He could also get a lot of those minutes, but its not a guarantee.

^^ I don't know about Ohio St. but State (Cat and Hendderson) and UConn (Jalen Adams, Purvis, Calhoun) both have potential starters but he would still get a TON of minutes.

And frankly is have to believe he would start over Henderson (or push Purvis to a small 3 at UC).

[Edited on May 8, 2015 at 10:11 AM. Reason : Have you guys see his numbers? He is close to elite.]

From what I've read about him, Gibbs would be a nice pick-up. I'm excited to see what the Martins can do next year, but having another dependable 3-point shooter on the team after the loss of Lacey would help a lot. Their jump shots are the main reason I'm a little scared of seeing Caleb & Cody getting a ton of minutes next year.

Does Henderson play bigger than his size? We would be extremely small but could he play the three in a three guard set? Aside from his stats I don't know a ton about him..

^ Henderson is a good shooter from outside too so I wouldn't worry but Gibbs is an elite shooter (43% from 3 last year!)

Yeah, I should've said to go along with Henderson. We lost Turner & Lacey and have only added Henderson on the perimeter. Without someone like Gibbs we'd have to be hope that the Martins improve their jumper pretty significantly, and/or hope to get a lot more production out of the front court next season.

shouldn't scare you so much as long as they aren't taking ill-advised shots.

but yes their jump shots are a reason not to expect the world from them yet as contributors though.
