Yep :-) funny thing is I know 9mm and .45 have the same muzzle energy but .45 knocks the around enough to reset them, and 9mm just blows apart and doesn't even nock them down sometimes.

Nice! Love the 226 Navy. Would love to have either the Navy or the Tac Ops

Rainier had (10) sets of Mega MATENs in stock, sold out in 2 minutes @ $650+, ridiculous. Been trying to get this gun made for a year now

Naw they were just in the shot because I was the cameraman at the pistol orgy that was happening on my dinner table. It was all about the 226 MK25...you may recall I recently posted in the used gun thread that I was trying to decide between the navy sig or a long-barrel ruger .44

hell yeah dude that is cause to party. Probably going to the range tomorrow, care to join? that goes for anyone else also...will bring at least the sig but probably also the SA 1911, fuggit maybe the g32 too.

yeah I had a hard-on for both the navy and the elite, but given that I already have a 1911 queen I figured I'd go for something more utilitarian. My only dilemma is that I really want the SRT trigger, but that kinda defeats the purpose of the coated internals...probably will hook it up anyway, doubt I'll be doing any midnight beach landings any time soon

That's called momentum. Velocity weighs heavily in the calculation of energy.

well technically muzzle energy is the momentum.

I'm aware if this... it's just funny how much more efficiently a 900ft/sec 220g bullet transfers energy to steel vs a 1400 ft/sec 115 grain bullet

my .45 plinking handloads are 230 gr plated bullets only doing about 600 fps (through my chrono). they don't hit those plates hard enough to reset them.

^^^ No. Kinetic energy is 0.5 x mass x velocity^2. Momentum is mass x velocity

Momentum vs kinetic energy is neat to play around with. 405gr wide nose lead bullets coming out of my 480 at a slow 800 fps can really smash some stuff but it's unimpressive when you hit a soft target.

Argue against the 10-round mag restriction.

I like guns and have no qualms with hi-capacity mags, but there is no valid argument FOR them (imo) other than a SHTF situation (rising against the govt and whatnot).

Points about "oh a trained person can load multiple mags just as fast as a high-cap mag" is BS. Add the stress levels in a real situation and it's complete BS.

Imagine giving a soldier a bunch of 10-rd mags and sending him into battle (let's say weight is no issue), HA. He NEEDS the high cap mags to do his job: kill people with the least interruptions possible/chance of being compromised. Or go the other way. If the soldier could have a magic normal-sized magazine that holds 200 rounds, you bet your ass he'd take it.

All I see is "look they're not bad because blah blah blah." How about some reasons why they're good?

took the mk25 and 1911 to the range today.

the 226 is a dream. Generally that Springfield spoils me for anything else so I usually shoot it last during any given session but after putting a couple boxes through the Sig I traded off mag for mag with the 1911 and it still felt smooth, precise and solid as a rock. Switching from the cheap(ish) Speer Lawman FMJ I bought at PDHSC to some Hornady HAP Steel Match I brought with me tightened up my groups significantly but I'm still not yet taking advantage of P226 accuracy. Then again, still relatively inexperienced with 9mm.

My groups with the 1911 and my G32 are consistently centered but for some reason I'm pulling low and left with the Sig. I think my trigger control is fine, I might just need to get used to the different grip. Anyone ever notice anything like this when shooting a P226 for the first time?

[Edited on January 11, 2013 at 8:14 PM. Reason : still considering the SRT kit for the sig]

What do you guys say as far as prices for defense handguns go, are they inflated right now along with all the other AR and SKS stuff or are pistols/shotguns somewhat reasonable still? I finally convinced the wife of the need to know how to shoot and defend herself. She understands she should learn for occassions when Im on business trips or working late. Doesnt have to enjoy it but just know it. Will most likely visit the Concord show tomorrow just to let her get a feel for type/size/cal she's comfortable witb but been out of the buying game for a while now. Though i have no issue with it a shotgun is out for now, too intimidating for her plus the recoil would knock her tiny ass over.

Used markets is hit or miss. Some things are average priced, a few items have shown up lately that are really good buys. But then I see some crazy shit, like a Gen III Glock 22 with some extra mags and ammo going for $1200. Really? $1200? That's about $300 over RETAIL.

Haven't noticed any significant inflation in handgun prices except on a few models that come stock with "hi-cap" magazines (think full-frame double-stack 9mm models and the like), and even that is inconsistent and easy to avoid

hell, while I'm on about it, PDHSC has the exact sig I just bought listed for $879/906 cash/card. That's pretty damn good, in any social environment.

I went and bought some 9mm range ammo at a small local gun shop and was surprised all the .22LR ammo was out

yeah.

22LR is out as well.

gunrunners had NO 9mm handguns in stock. worker there said 9's are flying off shelf because of cheap ammo prices and everyone wants a gun now.

and midwayusa is almost virtually out of 9mm with "no backorder"

this shit is bananas

oh and FYI, north raleigh guns got audited on top of being slammed with business so if you need anything of them I'd call ahead

That's what I was getting at...any firearm restriction threat will result in increased sales in every platform. 9mm luger isn't scarce because everyone bought up the rifles

i'm still waiting on a lot of parts, but the only things i don't at least have ordered are BCG and gas tube. i've also gotta send my barrel and FSB to a gunsmith to get them drilled and pinned, so i can definitely wait.

I sent you a gas tube link a few days ago.

I have everything for my precision build ordered except for the muzzle device. I want to get another BCG and charging handle to complete it but for now I will just use the ones from my other build.

Well goddamn Keltec. They replaced everything again! This time, they even replaced the safety mechanism and went over the faded serial with the engraver again, giving it a solid clean look. I "tested" the sub2k with some .40S&W dummy rounds I made and they work flawlessly! The Red Lion Precision front sight was installed and as far as I can tell, they sighted it in for me. Everything is so smoooth. I'm very, very pleased this time. I can't wait to take it to the range and see what it does on paper.

HOT DAMN.

What size barrel are you putting this on? Pics?

I'm strongly considering putting either the Samson Evo 15" or the Rainier Evo 15" (made by Samson) on a build that I am currently working on, with a 16" barrel.

Anyone know of anyplace with a ruger or browning .22lr pistol in stock?

Checking Davidson's online it appears the warehouse is empty.

Would prefer to pay 2012 or 2011 prices...

Need something cheaper to put holes in paper.

jtw: I paid $950 out-the-door for the NIB mk25 and a box of ammo on a FFL transfer from someone on CSC that had ordered it but couldn't keep it

If you bring cash, PDHSC had a new one listed for $879 (or a little over $900 if you pay with plastic), plus tax and whatnot, when I hit the range on Friday. That's the best price I've seen yet on one, online included, but that isn't to say they can't be had new for cheaper
