I don't like it that some of their programs index your hdd and report back to Google.

Google Transit now integrated with Mobile Gmaps, nice! Although RDU isn't in their transit system yet, it should be.

http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2008/06/get-bus-and-train-directions-on-go-with.html
Quote :
"Enter the new version of Google Maps for mobile. This version (2.2) allows you to get transit directions in all the same places http://www.google.com/transit as the web version of Google Maps, including Chicago, the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Vancouver, and over 40 other cities in North America.

This version of Google Maps for mobile even has a few tricks not yet available on the desktop version of Google Maps. For instance, you can find the last transit trips of the day (to figure out how late you can stay at the party) and more easily browse through earlier or later trips. The My Location feature, available on most phones, also makes it easier to set the start point of your journey.

This version of Google Maps for mobile also includes a bunch of other goodies, like faster searching on BlackBerry devices and star ratings for businesses. It's currently available for BlackBerry devices and many other Java-based phones. To download it to your phone visit http://www.google.com/gmm from your phone's web browser or on the desktop.

We're working to bring public transit directions to Google Maps on other devices, so stay tuned!"

thats some good stuff there. the starring system is much much better now, the take a break thing is rather useful, and the quick links is pretty useful as well.

Looks like google maps has a massive increase in streetviews. St louis, where I am living now, got on and looks like a bunch more on the east coast.

they released Street View for France, but just for the Tour de France course for now. Pretty sweet though - looks like they drove the entire 2000+mi course and mapped it all

In other Google news, Google has been ordered by a judge to turn over "every record of every video watched by YouTube users, including users' names and IP addresses, to Viacom
hopefully google will go to the mat to fight this one. This judge has clearly overstepped privacy bounds

god damn. gotta assume google is going to appeal that decision.

why in the world would viacom need the ip's of the users other than to have it to target those people later?

Gmail now has the ability to remotely logout open sessions of your Gmail account, also will show you a detail log of when your account was accessed and by what method.

http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/07/remote-sign-out-and-info-to-help-you.html

Very nice security feature.

nice. i hope its history goes back at least a week. my gmail got hacked or something last week. it was weird, i had gmail open as usual and saw the whole thing happen. suddenly i had like 40+ bounced emails in my inbox and then a minute or so later they were gone (at least most of them). apparently it emailed everybody in my contacts some spam link.
