Is the demo in the stores flawed? It cant render the game at a decent framerate , it gets bogged down really bad.... I could only imagine split screen.

^^ Motorstorm is one of the few games that's suppose to be 1080p capable, so I would guess the demo IS flawed, vs. the final release.

I am just getting back from spring break so trying to catch up on all of the PS3 news. It looks like a lot of good stuff came out of GDC. Can't wait to load up some Motorstorm and hopefully race some of you guys

^^^^^ The demo in stores is a special store demo that has many bugs and other problems. It was packaged before the PS3 was even released so that it could be shipped together with it. The demo on the Playstation Network received many updates and the full game has all bugs addressed and runs at a constant framerate with no graphical hickups.

As far as all of the Home discussion, it looks like all of the earlier rumors that came out were true, and that it will be really great. I am getting a good laugh at all of the Wii fanboys who are scared/threatened by Home. Do you guys really think something like Home could have been put together in a few months after PS saw the Mii system and tried to copy it back in September? If you have any knowledge at all about MMORPGs and the time it takes to develop and test them you would realize that idea is laughable at best, especially considering beta will be starting in April.

"SCEA and SOE are developing MMORPG(something similiar to ffxi) style online service for PS3 right now. It will have online pack which it comes with HDD and the online software. You can go online and chat with people like mmorpg style. Your stats will have the list of games you have and scores(or ranks) for each game, and other great things. And if you want to look for someone to play online for certain game, you have to go to this certain area(or town) for that specific game or the game will automatically takes you to that town. Sony thinks "hyper links" technology is a history. They want to create a "virtual world" for PS3 online service where people can actually interact eachother like mmorpg style. There are more great details, but this is all I can get for now. I'm not expecting you to believe me"

Proof that Sony was looking into motion sensing as early as 2003.

As more and more great games continue to be developed and come out (Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, GT, Warhawk, LittleBigWorld, Devil May Cry, God of War), PS3 owners will definitely be having the last laugh.

if they're stupid enough to actually care about what other people play. its a video game system, i.e. a source of entertainment, stop making it out to be anything more then that.

the real people laughing are the ones watching from the outside who really don't give a damn about which system is superior over the other....they are just enjoying whichever one they have.

^^ By buying one of the consoles you automatically place yourself in the camp of one by saying you prefer to buy it over the other two (disregarding price considerations). The only "impartial" game system owners are the people that own all three / plan to own all three because they realize all have pluses and minuses and that the exclusives for each console are the best.

^ I don't recall mentioning anything about the 360 in my post. And if the game drought this summer for the Wii is any indication you will be enjoying your mini games compilations for awhile longer.

I would buy a 360, but I simply refuse to buy a product that is so obviously flawed. And the price point is way too high for someone who isn't interested in FPS on consoles. The Wii looks cool and all, but there look to be 3 titles that might hold my interest - Zelda, Metroid, and SMB Galaxy. I would prefer to have higher quality graphics and a machine that isn't crippled (come on, two generations in a row with no DVD playback?)

agreed, but that doesnt mean i care which system you have, or anyone else. i didnt buy it because i wanted to be part of the "winning team", i bought it because it appealed to me more then the other.

^^^ Yeah, I agree to a certain extent. Most people don't really care about Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony, they just want fun games to play. However, after you have invested money in a particular console obviously you want it to succeed so there continue to be quality game developers attracted to your console to develop for it. What systems people are buying does matter because that influences the future development of games and the amount of enjoyment that you will get out of the money that you have spent.

GDC 2007: Harrison's Home
Quote :
"Everything in Home sounds pretty damn cool, but it's hard to believe Sony can offer all of this and continue its model of having its Network be free of charge. Well, believe in miracles, because you can enjoy Home for free. Granted, selling premium content will be part of Home's business model (as will advertising), you do get quite a bit for free.

If none of this sounds appealing, fear not. Just about everything you can do in Home can also be done through the cross media bar. It just won't look as cool."

I think the fact that Home functions will also be available in XMB is pretty big. Obviously everyone won't want to use the 3D environment. However it sounds like they have put a lot of thought into the environment like the ability to mute/remote players you don't like and the model of adding a pretty basic world for free and then allowing people to purchase additional items like different clothes or a different view out of their window.

Sony Talks Cell To Developers

I think this is the most appealing and coolest part about LittleBigPlanet. I am used to playing FPS games on the computer and playing tons of really unique maps created by users. I expect people to come up with some creative and appealing maps to play in this game, and the integration into PSN should be great. Really the future of PSN is looking to be quite good with the news about Home coming as well as integration of multiple games including LittleBigPlanet maps, videos and songs for SingStar, additional content for games like Motorstorm, etc.

^ If you have not beaten the game in single player yet you need to do that first. The default cars are way too slow to get anywhere close to first place. Also for the majority of tracks your best bet is either a rally car or a big rig. I need a few more wins to get God level status.

Also I am still expecting Calling All Cars this Thursday, especially since IGN's release dates have been pretty sketchy but I guess we will see.

^ Nope it didn't come out. It looks like Sony is just going to pack everything into next week: European launch, (hopefully) Calling All Cars, (maybe) MK2, (maybe) Super Rub a Dub, Oblivion, Armored Core 4, Godfather, Virtua Tennis 3, and the big firmware update.

Hot Shots Golf 5 comes out on Japan PSN today. I might download it and stumble through the menus just because that game is so awesome. I don't know how long it will take them to add it to the US PSN.

I finally got the latest copy of EGM in the mail today. The 10 page exclusive on Ratchet and Clank is really awesome. The screenshots look so good. After the success Insomniac had with Resistance, I am expecting them to put out another stellar game.

Sony Shares Details on 1.6 Update
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/773/773672p1.html

Quote :
"The biggest new feature for the update is something that was previously confirmed by company executives: background downloading. With Version 1.6 installed, you'll be able to use the PS3 for other things while downloading large or multiple files. Sony states that there are some limitations to this feature, but these won't be announced until the day of the update's availability.

...Other new features affect the system's web browser. The browser will now detect your video-out settings and set the standard font size accordingly, and even deal with nasty interlacing artifacts. You'll also be able to make use of a new "pin-point zoom" feature to zoom in on pages."

so i finally got motorstorm this weekend - what a great game. i went online for a few races after completing all the level 1 tickets and a couple races in level 2...2nd place on my first race - not too bad right? then i go into the second race, run pretty flawlessley after the first bit of mash-ups out of the start but still DNF about 10 seconds shy of the finish line...some people obviously have done nothing but play this since its release - gotta catch up!

lots of good releases this week - Godfather, Virtua Tennis, Oblivion

Losing DMC4 as an exclusive is going to be big. It is one of my favorite games.

Super Rub-a-Dub Review

This game got a terrible review from IGN which is disappointing since I was looking forward to it. It will probably get added to the PSN this Thursday (UK is getting it on launch). Hopefully we get MK2 and Calling All Cars on Thursday as well.

well, if they release some of the 360 titles on PS3, then I can be secure in knowing that i won't need to spend another 400 bones on a console that i get to send back every 3 months for repairs...i've always wanted to play dead rising

as far as DMC, i always found them to bee too much button mashing...played one for about an hour and regretted spending the money on it

^ Yeah DMC definitely has a unique gameplay style that some people don't like. IGN put it at #16 for their top PS2 games of all times though, and I really like the action style that it and God of War have.

As long as DMC still comes out for PS3 I will be happy. For this generation of consoles, third party exclusives are definitely dead, especially with the rising cost of next gen development. After the success Capcom saw with Dead Rising, they can see the easy money they can make by porting DMC to the 360.

I can completely see from a developer's perspective they want to make money so multiplatform makes the most sense but I wonder how much games get tamed down so they are easier to port. I don't think any third party games will perform as well as optimized console specific games can which I think hurts everyone. On the other hand everyone wins by having a larger game library. It is certainly a plus that Sony has put so much money into first party development since the PS2.

in other news there were some new lair screenshots released
http://www.jeux-france.com/news19645_lair-nouvelles-images.html

I really want to pickup Oblivion when it comes out this week but since I have three tests next week I might have to wait a few days so it doesn't take over my life and make me fail.

i don;t know what to say but wow. i am not a 360 fanboy, and i am not into console wars, but it is obvious that the ps3 could never catch up to the 360.

Are you talking about catching up in sales or what? I think it is a bit early to say that it is "obvious" the ps3 could "never" catch up, especially for a console that Sony has stated it has a 10 year roadmap for. Considering the PS3 has just been out for ~5 months now and has not even launched in Europe, that sure looks like a fanboy comment to me.

Consoles are expected to hit the highest level of sales in the third and fourth years after their launch."

To say that there is not even the POSSIBILITY of the PS3 catching up even 10 years from now is delusional at best.
