Are the gripes in this thread going to be used to improve the site, or is this just another "what's wrong with TWW" thread that will live for about 24 hours and then everyone goes back to business as usual and the site slowly fades away?

Social networking. Tww was pre-myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, pintrest, etc.

^I hear that a lot from sites and forums that start to die, but in reality, they created a space that became stagnant and instead of changing the site features and outreach to match what their demographic had changed to, they just kept harping on the same set-up and blamed an outside entity that they couldn't control.

TWW seems to be a pretty good example of this. The site info still says this site is for NCSU students, despite the audience here being overwhelmingly alumni, with a good percentage of the "student" population here being graduate students. Users now have kids, real jobs, mortgages and live all over the country.

Not to mention the site features seemed to have been completely ignored. The School Tool, Calendar & Book Exchange haven't been updated in YEARS. They're no longer of use to anyone.
The front page news and poll are almost half a year out of date.

Why not ditch all the ignored student features and implement a few that focus on what Alumni would be interested in.

And lets not forget how many colorful characters that have graced these pages over 10 years have been run out of here because of indiscretions, or just got tired of dealing with the incessant trolling and flaming. It'd be one thing if we were welcoming new users in, but it seems like more often than not, as soon as a new user pops up, someone starts trolling them and they give up on the site before they even give it a fair shake.

To echo the point above, Losing some of student-centric stuff and adding in more focus on alumni issues would help. I think a place/way to connect, network and talk about jobs/industry would be nice.

I don't have near as much downtime outside of work where I'm bored or have nothing to do.

Either too tired to do anything besides click through websites like a zombie or I'm doing stuff (like packing and moving again). TWW also hasn't really kept up with other social networking sites which is partly to blame I guess. All the new students already have facebook accounts and I'm not sure that web forums are that appealing to people who primarily use the internet through their phones.

Yeah, but I have noticed a lot of people on here only used it to host photos and you can only host 50 for free. Photobucket, myspace, facebook, etc allow an unlimited number. That means the photo gallery is useless today and has been since about 2005.

I also heard there was a mass e-mail sent to every student at NC State to inform them about tww when it first started. That needs to be done again, if tww is going to survive.

none of you have a good argument as to how EUPHALO killed TWW

in fact, you never have any argument

you have never quantified it in a justifiable manner, and you'll never be able to

I was googling random clothes I want, and I stumbled on the most adorable cropped lounge pants! They're modestly priced from the Gap and super cute:

http://tinyurl.com/nyv279f

I had to have them in my life. And when I went to put in my size, I realized they were full-length pants for babies.

So that's what's going on with me, guys. Just let me know if you want me to make more of these posts.

^^^No, sir. If they did, I'd buy them in every size and get knocked up ASAP. I'm grownish, but I think I'd still describe myself as "in trouble" and go visit relatives for the duration of the pregnancy. I'd make sure my new baby sister had some fly ass cargo pants though.

Those seem to be examples of the main options. Engage the existing base more, expand the base with new recruitment, or both.

I think for the age demographic that's in college now, twitter is even more actively used and is more readily geared for promoting. Create a tdub account, have it tweet at student athletes with threads talking about state's performance in recent or upcoming games (or bantering with other schools fans twitter accounts), or at student government leaders, or other groups on campus, enough to provoke a response or retweet, and you might get some traffic that way.

I use facebook (somewhat) and twitter (even less)

but on tdub if you want to, you can just talk shit with more anonymity than those two social media sites

i was 'recruited' to tdub based on an AIM status i had like 12 years ago...that was some grassroots shit...i dunno how to do it now though...but if i was paid to figure it out, i definitely could :$:

I can post what the student interns we have had the last 2 years from State have said. They don't use TWW because the users are all alumni (in their opinion) and I guess there is some Facebook pages and groups that are specifically geared towards current students that they talk about going to all the time. They said when they read TWW all they see is people complaining or arguing most of the time.

The site needs a makeover and site 3 was a good a start

Not enough campus marketing but then not a lot to offer new members

Mega threads hurt as well. It does keep some things in check but they aren't needed as much anymore

Yes, BB, whether you want to face it or not, the constant EUPHALO stuff did hurt the user base. Not so much now though

No matter if things are rehashed on tww from other sites. I encourage it. Not everyone reads reddit

I don't read reddit.

I think the amount of users with kids is hurting the site as well. People aint got time for the internet once they breed it seems.
