TWW Service Project?

submitted by mdaldrich on Wednesday, September 5 2001 at 12:05 AM

NC State's chapter of Habitat for Humanity is having its first workday of the year this Saturday, September 8th. This might be a good way to counteract some recent negative stereotypes of TWW while having a good time and helping to make a positive impact on the community.

We will be meeting in the little Harris Lot (next to Pullen Hall) at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, and from there carpool out to the Darby Street neighborhood to begin work.

We will spend the day working on the finishing touches for one of the 11 homes in the neighborhood, and we may also be doing a little bit of landscaping. The workday should wrap up around 4:00 or earlier, depending on how large our group is and how much work they have for us to do.

If you are interested in working this Saturday please contact:
Melissa Holliday by email or at 512-5626 If your last name begins with A-M or Shawn Rosenquist by email or at 327-6182 If your last name begins with N-Z

Once they have a list of interested people, they'll contact you with more specifics on what we'll be doing and also what to bring to the worksite. If you are planning on coming and would be willing to drive, please let them know how many you can take. Lunch will be provided. Check the website for more info on Habitat for Humanity

no. you don't have to be a member.

they've told me that they have lots of people who come to meetings but don't come out to help (which I don't understand) and many who come out to help but don't come to meetings (makes perfect sense to me)

I don't know if/when another day will happen this semester. There is a fall break trip (to help build houses) being planned, but I don't know about more workdays.

The funny thing is that the stereotype is placed on TWW by those who often do not get what they want from the group. All in all, it is great to see such a large group play an active role in not only State's but Raleigh's community. I hope the involvement continues!

yo. so everyone that went saturday seemed to have a good time. I very much enjoyed it - i even received a bit of a tan (shocking i'm sure).

apparently there's another workday this saturday, September 15. I guess all of these thursday football games free up the weekend nicely.

Anyway, i'll post more info about saturday when I receive it.
