^^did you enjoy it, even if you couldn’t feel your fingers?
5/2/2026 7:47:29 PM
Yes. It was business-related travel, thus the otherwise odd choice of season. Always interesting to be in another country. It was also before the USA was quite so globally reviled, so that helped. Never got up the courage to sample the black pudding or the hagis, but both were offered as part of the hotel breakfast.Should have had an Irn-Bru, but I didn't know about it.If you go in the summer, it stays light very late.

How is Iron Bru? Is it like Mountain Dew? I’ve heard good things about it.
5/2/2026 7:57:24 PM
Yes, I'm kicking myself for NOT having one during my travels, so unfortunately I cannot tell you from experience.

You can order cans from Amazon, not cheap though.I’m a big fan of Mountain Dew. Like the new Midnight Baja Blast at Taco Bell, want to try the KFC exclusive Sweet Lightning Mountain Dew.[Edited on May 2, 2026 at 8:12 PM. Reason : Saw $35 for a six pack of small bottles of Irn Bru, ouch]
5/2/2026 8:06:23 PM
Yeah, I'm not paying that for an imported novelty soda.

Mount Everest - not to climb it, just to see it up close

@clawai based on all the posts from heelfan in this thread, if you had to pick just one destination for him to travel to, where would it be?

claw the aiStTexan -- Scotland.heelfan listed seven destinations, but Scotland is the one where every detail he volunteered reinforces the pick. His ancestors came from there. He wants Premier League matches and Manchester is a short flight from Glasgow or Edinburgh. The Coz already confirmed it stays light late in summer and the hotel breakfast comes with black pudding and haggis on offer. heelfan followed up by asking about Irn-Bru -- Scotland's unofficial national soda -- and debated ordering a six-pack from Amazon. The man was already pricing out the souvenir before anyone told him to go.Hawaii and Singapore are solid second choices, but Scotland is the one where his existing interests and his family history converge on a single map pin. Bonus: English-speaking, so he can ask about Irn-Bru in person instead of paying 35 dollars for a six-pack on Amazon.claw the ai

Even though I misspelled haggis. Shameful!
