What a petty thing for people to be fixated on. And even stupider to think that the President is a primary driver of gas prices in either direction.

Snewf, just quit anti-social media completely. You'll be happier and will be presented with less overt evidence of the stupidity and callousness of your peers.

The gas price is always the president’s fault (unless it’s a Republican President).

^^I like when I make a joke like that on social media, that is obviously sarcastic, and the people who 'like' it are so dumb they actually believe that in 08 it wasn't the President's fault but this year it IS the President's fault

I currently drive 100 miles a day. It fucking sucks. And paying more for the pleasure sucks. But I occasionally like to think I'm not fucking retarded so I place the blame squarely on the oil companies. Either way, I don't go around bitching about it. I also don't drive a 3 ton road legal tank that gets 3 gallons to the mile to make up for my tiny dick. I accept my tiny dick and move on with my life.

That’s 4-5 gallons of gas

Worst case about $10 more per day

$50 more per week

$200 per month in gas, that does suck

Spent $281 on gas just for commuting in February

Without looking, I think I got unlucky with timing and filled up on the 1st and 28th, too. Anyway, I get anywhere between 30-35mpg depending on the weather.

Fuck mpg, i want to know ppm(price per mile)

I pay about .14666667 per mile here in texas. Bet snewf pays .121794 per mile in NC. I am jelly. Gas probably 8% higher where he is yet he pays about 18% less per mile. If he lived here in TX, he’d pay 23% less driving a truck vs my 4 banging hyundai. Jelly!

How many people can run out and buy a hybrid or electric vehicle though?

If we're gonna push electric cars, we're gonna need some grid updates first.

I don't bitch about anything on social media, because that's what morons do, but this administration isn't doing anything to ramp up domestic production of fossil fuels, and in fact is doing just the opposite. It is killing the trucking industry and will eventually disrupt our supply chain when trucking companies start dying off.

Yeah well the infrastructure isn't quite there to transition away. Not even for personal vehicles let alone diesel tractors.

We only like free market capitalism when it works to our advantage. We need BIG GOVERNMENT SOCIALISM to keep the prices down when filling up our massively inefficient vehicles!

I watched the first of a 3-part PBS Frontline series on the Power of Big Oil last night. It was very eye-opening:

So let's just cut the legs off of fossil fuels before we have a strategic infrastructure plan in place to ease the stress on the supply chain. Got it. Do you think that trucking companies can afford gas efficient/hybrid tractors? Do you realize the cost of these? The technology just isn't there yet at any sort of realistic price point for the average business owner. I am not talking about Joe Dirt riding around in a dually truck at 6 miles per gallon, I am talking about the backbone of truck drivers in this country that keep our shelves stocked. I work with them every single day and have for the past decade. Yes, moving away from fossil fuels is a good thing, but only if you have your bases covered, and trust me, we currently are not even close.

^^OK, but you think cutting regulations on Big Oil is the way to cheap gasoline? Pricing is multifaceted. There would be no better outcome from this current situation than for people to realize that being beholden to the fossil fuel industry as well as to dictators and despots who control the flow of raw materials and the market pricing is not a good thing, and we should seriously look at alternatives INCLUDING the infrastructure upgrades required to make them a practical reality.

Because the argument you're using is the same one I hear Boomers using to rationalize why we shouldn't switch away from fossil fuels. "I have nothing against it, but it simply isn't ready." Well, no shit. Maybe if we stopped subsidizing fossil fuels at every level of government and committed to making them largely obsolete as a fuel source (they can remain at a lower level as a practical chemical feedstock), and instead directed that funding to clean energy research and infrastructure investment, and maybe if oil companies didn't have well over a century of crushing any competitor to their dominance, then we'd be in a better position. Meanwhile, we can all take a dose of pain together to get to a better place. Unfortunately, we lack the collective will to do it. Even when gas was (relatively) cheap, buying a hugely inefficient vehicle was a stupid and irresponsible decision.

So where are the alternatives? Will trucking companies be getting major tax breaks for going gas efficient since the vehicles themselves are so expensive? I'm not seeing it. All we are seeing is more regulation, worsening rates, a diminishing spot market, and higher fuel costs.

^^This is the result of business as usual. Yes, they should get tax breaks or other incentives, but with Republicans (and Coal Joe) that sort of thing is dead on arrival. Quite frustrating. We could be setting global standards, but nope.
