Well when we have 2 guys on the floor at the same time who can't guard anyone bad things happen.

Keatts is gonna have to make some adjustments (i.e. not switching on screens with Andree) or we're gonna get ran out of the building. But seriously, Memphis is going to shoot 75% from the floor if we keep running out that lineup.

braxton, andree, hellems, even stone hands bates...just too many guys where youre ok with their weaknesses if you got complete players around them but once you put a bunch of them on the floor together it gets ugly

I wonder about Hellums' basketball IQ. I think he thinks he's way better than he is. He plays hard but seems extremely slow-footed and takes some awful shots.

Lol. Hellems is the best interior passer on the team and a solid defender. The shots he takes aren't bad, he's open but they aren't falling. If they were bad shots Keatts would yank him. He'll probably never be a great 3 point shooter, but he isn't a black hole. Despite him kind of struggling shooting the ball this year, he's still been one of our better players who contributes in nearly every facet of the game.

I think his "basketball iq" is pretty dang high. It's not a coincidence that he was part of the lineup that led the comeback and that Andree and Beverly were on the bench. Markell, Bryce, Daniels, Hellems and DJ/Bates is clearly our best lineup because we can actually defend with that lineup.

One of the things that kills me is that Hellems is great at getting the opposing big to foul (he's big enough to bang, and can move quicker than most bigs) if we can switch them on to him. He did it twice against Banks in the GT game and sent him to the bench. He got Achuwa his second in the first half and they had to sit him. A good coach runs pick and roll with Achuwas guy all day to set this up and makes him sit, but Keatts never exploits this.

That particular decision didn't change this game--the stretch with Dixon, Andree and Beverly allowing them to run a layup line on us decided this game.

Keatts needs to get over his whole deal of benching dudes the rest of the first half once they pick up a 2nd foul. I get why he does it, but last year it killed us with Markell picking up early fouls and this year it's our bigs.

hellems is a guy who ends up on a midmajor because he's limited athletically (although not as limited as some other guys on our team, as you saw yesterday) but does a lot of the annoying shit duke players do and will kill you as an upperclassman

right now hes annoying to us because he shoots too much and isnt good enough to get away with that but theoretically that should change as a junior/senior
