Wish Yurt success. Tremendous talent, nice inside outside game, and helped us win some big games this year like against the holes in the Deans Dome. Probably our best big this decade.

"Yes, but only those 3 guys are coming back that played this year."

I'll just put it this way. I felt more uncomfortable the end of last season than this one.The season before last, won like 4 ACC games, blown out by the holes 50+ points, countless of blowout loses in the ACC, terminated coach, and bleak looking future. This year we had a rough ending to the season but boy did Keatts come a long way. He has three solid players returning and also got a bid to the NCAA. With Byrce and Daniels our backcourt is already better. Yurt hurts, but we also get 3 bigs that are more appropriate for Keatt's system. I see us improving as a team next year, especially with three players that have experience in the system.

not earl but rwoody missed my point. i think the opposite of what you think i said. yurt needs to stay in school at least another year probably two to get better.

We only had 6 (7 if you count Nard) coming back this year, but only 4 that really played.

^^^^^also not to turn a positive post negative, but if you are offering me Rich Howell senior season or Yurt this season, I take Rich. But Yurt is a close second and it's a decent gap to last year's Abu and then a huge gap to everyone else.

I only want Howell assuming ACC refs don't call fouls on him every fucking time he touches the ball. The refs murdered him his Sr year.

Howell averaged 3 fouls/game his Sr year, 3.1 in CONFERENCE. Yurt averaged.....3/3.1

And sad lol: Abu averaged 2.7/2.5 in like half as many minutes

I know the guys who sat this year in the backcourt are supposed to be good but it will be hard for them to play as well as Al Freeman did for the second half of the season.

Al did play better for the last third of the season (the first 2/3 were horrendous dogshit that made me want to sit him on the bench in favor of Batts). But did he really do anything spectacular during that stretch? He was often our second worst rotation defender (behind beverly) and made open shots created by Markell and the offense.

In fact whenever he would go beyond that, he would be shit again. I appreciate him figuring some things out late in the season so we could make the tourney, but I am not the slightest bit worried that Bryce and Daniels can't replace him and more.

it wont be too hard to replace yurt and al freeman because they were huge liabilities on defense.

A) That's not how team defense works
B) I'd prefer not to go back to "They gotta guard us too pal" defense.

the good news is we aren't relying on one guy to replace Al. i think our scoring will be more balanced next year. bryce, daniels, dorn will be the leading scorers. but then we've still got beverly and markell that can score. plus the freshmen. we'll miss Al, for sure. but we've got some good guys coming in.

From multiple sources, Daniels was the best player all season in practice and it didn't seem to even be questioned. I've seen comments like, "next year's team will be about putting the 4 best guys around Daniels". Obviously, practice and games are different, but it's a good sign for next year. The thing to remember is we aren't bringing in true FR or RS FR, these guys have played college ball and have taken a year off to develop their game, get stronger, and develop chemistry.

Al buried us at times in the first half of the season but he had some absolutely terrific performances(@UNC, Seton Hall, etc) down the stretch. I think we can absolutely replace Al as far as the whole season goes, mainly because I don't think we're going to count on any of these new guys(Daniels, Bryce, Harris) to come in and drop 30+ points or go perfect from 3.

And Daniels will be in his second year of KK’s system and Bryce will be in his fourth year with KK. So not only do they have college level experience (and in a Daniels’ case, P5 level experience), they also should be able to fit right in with the style and scheme of the team. Obviously since this was year 1 with Keatts, everybody on the ‘17-18 team had more of a learning curve. That shouldn’t be the case next year.

Projected starting lineup: Braxton Beverly, Markell Johnson, Torin Dorn, C.J. Bryce, Derek Funderburk

Kevin Keatts is going to miss Yurtseven, because he doesn’t have any size on his roster anymore. He does, however, have half-a-million guards on his roster, and all of them can play. That’s enough for me to bet on Keatts getting it done."

Love the buzz we're getting, but don't think that starting 5 is right.

Sounds like we're actively pursuing multiple guard transfers(grad and traditional).

Keatts clearly isn't a fan of holding onto a scholarship haha.

If you have an open scholarship, there really isn't a downside to a grad transfer.

I'm not sold on BB staying a starter. He's steady, doesn't do much wrong. But he really doesn't do a lot of game changing things either. I'm more for the latter. But whatever, just win.

I'd love to see us add a big - maybe Lukas Kisunas (UConn decommit)

I think Beverley is a legit starter at the 2 but we'll just have to see how the other guards perform and how they adjust to ACC play. He should improve over the summer but even if he doesn't, I thought he made some pretty big plays and generally played pretty well, especially considering how much we were asking of him time-wise.

He is an awful defender, requiring help defense on nearly all defensive possessions. Usually the help defense leads to increased fouls for the help defender. So he does a lot wrong.

ok ok geez. thats not really doing much "wrong", like boneheaded plays and forcing stuff yada yada... he's just overmatched on defense. which leads to this guy's point ^. I also don't know why we asked so many minutes of him due to his defense.

Because we were only 8 guys deep. Beverly is much more suited as a second unit scorer/distributor, where his defensive shortcomings can be better accounted for.

Yeah Bev is gonna be a solid 4 year player. He has obvious shortcomings and ideally would be a rotational player but was forced into a lotta minutes this year. With a deeper backcourt we can hopefully hide some of his deficiencies while still getting some of his offense. He played like the second most minutes on the team this year behind Al Freeman. I don’t think he’s just gonna be buried on the bench...KK seems to really like him (I know we were limited in terms of an alternative, but still) and he’s gonna get plenty of minutes. But with the depth we’ll hopefully have, he won’t be asked to do as much.

I think Bev could actually be solid in a 6th man role for us. I don't think he'll start, but I could see him coming off the bench giving us solid minutes with another ball-handler and 3pt threat. I think he can improve defensively but not sure what his ceiling is.

I'm all for adding a post-grad, but was surprised to us targeting traditional transfers at guard/wing spots, but I guess with Batts basically gone it wouldn't hurt to get a traditional transfer to help with scholarship spacing.

he'll get all the back up 1 minutes, a fair number of the "keatts wants two point guards on the floor" minutes (i think daniels theoretically has these skills too, but he's probably higher on the pecking order), obviously the back up daniels/bryce minutes and then I would expect daniels/bryce to be the first option as the dorn back up as well, so he'd be the sub in that situation too

things only start to get hairy for him if we add another guard, and even then he's going to play for the shooting alone

Wouldn’t be too surprised to see Markell do the same. No reason not to get the feedback. But that’s total speculation my part.

Hopefully this doesn't end up like an Abu situation where he gets feedback to work on a couple of things and then abandons everything else in his game and focuses just on the things they ask him to improve on.

I can't see Dorn getting any feedback about being drafted, but it certainly is worth finding out what the NBA thinks of him and what he needs to work on.
