It looks cool as hell in person, but it seems like it makes intros take even longer. Gotta tighten that shit up man.

Also needs more Kevin Nash.

This is really a much more talented team than it looked like at first blush. We already knew what Markell and Dorn brought to the table, but Braxton has really impressed me in ACC play with his shooting and ability to run the half-court offense. Then you've got Funderburk who might be the best player on the whole team when it's all said and done. If we can get some game to game consistency out of Daniels, then baby, we got a stew going.

Wake loss didn’t knock us out of the top 25.

#21 in the AP.

Makes sense. 1-1 in conference road games without our PG who happens to be our best player, plus a number of other Top 25 teams behind us lost. Heck FSU has lost 3 straight including a loss to BC and is still somehow in the Coaches Poll at 23 and essentially #26 in the AP Poll.

They dropped out of the AP after 3 straight losses, as they should have. The coaches poll in general should just be ignored. It's been proven over and over that many coaches don't watch any games and others just get some random aide/secretary to vote for them.

Yeah it’s basically grad assistants or SIDs or whoever voting. Definitely not coaches.

Keatts said Markell is shooting but not scrimmaging. Could play Thursday but might be 3-4 weeks out. Not taking contact or moving fast right now

Fairly challenging 8 game stretch coming up. I'd be ecstatic (assuming Markell stays out longer) if State went 4-4:

@ LOUISVILLE

vs CLEMSON

vs VIRGINIA

vs VIRGINIA TECH

@ UNC-CHAPEL HILL

@ PITTSBURGH

vs SYRACUSE

@ DUKE

4-4 would be daunting with Markell at 100%.

^In this article I'm going to throw out some statistics and claim it supports and argument...

So, last year we were -40ish in FT differential across ACC play. This season, we're on track to be -250. We don't take it to the hole that much less (+3 3PA/gm), and we don't have more possessions than last year... Yet somehow we commit 3x more fouls than our opponents?

That shit just don't add up

We are seeing the same problems every game. A Clempson choke job doesn't change that.

We've just been playing really sloppy ball for the past 3 games or so. The UNC loss was probably our best played ACC game. Just need to settle down and stop fumbling away possessions. Gotta remember that we're relying on a lot of transfer players not used to going up against ACC caliber talent game after game.

Yeah that’s reasonable. Lost to a ranked team on the road and won vs Clemson. Wouldn’t think it would drop us out, but wouldn’t be surprised either way

Hopefully now that Markell is back things get rolling again. We cut down on some of the dumb fouls today but still made too many dumb turnovers. The one positive over this last few games is that CJ Bryce looks like he is turning into the extra 3 point threat we need.

Here's how the AP Top 25 teams fared this week so far:

1. Tennessee - 2-0 (@ Vanderbilt W, West Virginia W)
2. Duke - 2-0 (@ Pitt W, Georgia Tech W)
3. Virginia - 2-0 (Wake W, @ Notre Dame W)
4. Gonzaga - 1-0 (@ Santa Clara W)
5. Michigan - 2-0 (Minnesota W, @ Indiana W, play @ Purdue tomorrow)
6. Michigan State - 2-0 (#13 Maryland W, @ #19 Iowa W)
7. Nevada - 1-0 (Colorado State W)
8. Kentucky - 2-0 (#22 Mississippi State W, #9 Kansas W)
9. Kansas - 1-1 (#24 Iowa State W, @ #8 Kentucky L)
10. Virginia Tech - 1-1 (@ #11 North Carolina L, Syracuse W)
11. North Carolina - 1-0 (#10 Virginia Tech W)
12. Marquette - 2-0 (Depaul W, @ Xavier W)
13. Maryland - 0-2 (@ #6 Michigan State L, Illinois L)
14. Texas Tech - 1-1 (@ Kansas State L, Arkansas W)
14. Buffalo - 1-1 (@ Northern Illinois L, @ Kent State W)
16. Auburn - 0-2 (@ South Carolina L, #22 Mississippi State L)
17. Houston - 1-0 (ECU W, play @ Tulsa tomorrow)
18. Villanova - 1-0 (@ Butler W, play Seton Hall tomorrow)
19. Iowa - 0-1 (#6 Michigan State L, play @ Minnesota tomorrow)
20. Ole Miss - 0-2 (@ Alabama L, #24 Iowa State L)
21. NC State - 1-1 (@ #23 Louisville L, Clemson W)
22. Mississippi State - 1-1 (@ #8 Kentucky L, #16 Auburn W)
23. Louisville - 2-0 (#21 NC State W, Pitt W)
24. Iowa State - 1-1 (@ #9 Kansas L, @ #20 Ole Miss W)
25. LSU - 2-0 (Georgia W, @ Missouri W)

The fact that LSU rallied to beat Missouri in OT hurt our chances of staying ranked. Maryland should drop out after going 0-2 and losing to a pitiful Illinois team. Buffalo lost to NIU which should drop them out if the voters have any intelligence. Ole Miss should also drop out after going 0-2. Auburn going 0-2 sucks because it erodes away a win that we can tip our hat to, and if they had beaten Mississippi State I would have felt better about possibly staying ranked. Maybe we can get some upsets tomorrow with Houston @ Tulsa, Villanova playing a Seton Hall team that beat Kentucky, and Iowa playing at Minnesota. One thing we might have going for us is that everyone of the writers has now probably heard about our buzzer beater which keeps us fresh in their mind, and we had a respectful loss on the road against a ranked team.

Also not trying to be conspiracy theorist or anything, but how does UNC get 8 days rest between games? Is that something all teams in the ACC get, or just a scheduling quirk with Notre Dame joining the league?

^^It would be, but I'd be happy to go even 1-2, feels like 0-3 is likely at this point.

UVA is going to embarrass us. VT and UNC are winnable.

I saw a good break down of the rest of our schedule and chance to make the NCAAT. If we can win one of our next 3 games (UVA,VT, @UNC-CH), and then are chalk the rest of the way (@Pitt, Cuse, BC, Wake, GT, @BC) that will get us to 23 wins (11 ACC wins), and squarely in. That Pitt game makes me nervous, but we should be good with the rest.

That Clemson win was big, but these next 3 games (as well as @Duke and @FSU) are huge opportunities to get some Q1 wins.

Home vs Cuse and away vs BC will be tough. Away vs any acc team is tough and BC has some players.

Really impressed by what Keatts has been able to do with an average or even slightly below average ACC roster. Id say the team has overperformed because of his coaching.

Reminds me a lot of Tony Bennett's progress at UVA, where he took over a dumpster fire program and after two years of coaching and recruiting started having real success. Keatts has definitely had more success faster than Bennett but I would be excited about the future once he gets players into his system for multiple years.

^ I think that’s an overlooked point. This team isn’t *that* talented. And I’m not using that as an excuse for some recent poor performances at all. But I think it’s a totally fair observation.

And along the lines of Bennett, one thing I love about Keatts is that he has given the program and team an identity that we’ve mostly lack since the Sendek era. What was the identity under Gott, even in the good years? It was “they gotta guard us too, pal” I suppose....which isn’t a good identity to project really. And under Lowe? I truly don’t know what our identity ever was.

^Absolutely, absolutely

I hope the talent level is going to pick up from recruiting and not relying on D2 or 3rd option on a D1 transfers after this year. Lecque seems good but raw, the other recruits seem like decent players, I just hope they fit the style.

Yeah, talent discrepancy between the upper echelon in the ACC is apparent. Literally 3/5 of our starters started their careers at a lesser conference. However, he did recruit the players, and feel like he's capable of doing big things once he fills out a more talented roster.

Yeah, I think Bates is supposed to be good. I don't really know anything about Killeya-Jones either but the fact that he started out at Kentucky at least seems to bode well.

I mean, Hellems seems like he'll become a good player. The freshmen seem alright so far.

SKJ was a 5-star PF and McD AA when he committed to Kentucky so he should be a significant upgrade for the roster. Bates was a 4-star.
