If it makes landfall on Thursday, the weather shouldn't be bad enough on Saturday to cancel the game. Unless you guys are thinking there will be enough infrastructure damage to impact the game (no power, etc) I'm not sure there's much to be concerned about. In short, your roads are fine.

WV has to arrive Friday or Thursday. That seems highly unlikely.

The field will need to be playable. We might be talking 2x the amount of rain we got in Matthew. And refs and essential personnel (stadium staff, etc) need to be able to travel to the game. I don’t think it’s gonna get played.

They’re also talking about the storm hitting and then slowing down and stalling for a bit. None of this bodes well for the game happening.

I think that would give them only 5 home games next year so they won’t be pumped about it. We would have to safely travel there and I think Thursday is the normal travel day. And lower on the list...I doubt we’d be crazy about playing back to back road games in the state of WV for travel although that won’t make or break the decision probably.

Lets not kid ourselves. Its on ESPNU. If there is power such that TV cameras can broadcast, there will be a game.

^^ yeah I know. Which is why I said it was further down the list and not a deciding factor. But I can’t imagine we would want to play back to back road games (involving air travel, not bussing to Winston Salem) in the lead up to ACC play. It won’t be the deciding factor but isn’t the ideal situation. It’s just one more reason that probably makes moving to WV a little harder

[Edited on September 10, 2018 at 2:56 PM. Reason : or maybe travel won't matter at all, just seemed like a less than ideal way to roll into ACC play]

UNC and UCF both benefit from canceling their game for UNC avoiding another slaughter, and UCF weakening their SOS by slaughtering UNC.

I'm not sure what the best scenario for State is. I think we had a decent shot playing them at home but if we move the game to Morgantown our odds get significantly worse. I'm not sure they would be willing to work something out where they swap games, either.

I think delaying the game a day or two, moving it to December, or just outright canceling it seems like the most likely thing to happen.

We have no desire to play @WVU this year. The goal is to have the game at home this year(better odds of winning) and then go to WVU next year when Grier is gone and have a much better shot of winning there.

Honestly we'll play on Sunday or wait and make it up at the end of the year(conference championship week if neither of us are involved in a game that week).

It will hurt our shot at 8-9 wins but I don't see any upside to traveling to WVU this year, esp. since we'd have to travel up probably tomorrow or early Thursday to avoid the storm.

i don't see why we'd re-schedule for the end of the year. if it can't get done this weekend, neither team has much to gain by playing a late season OOC game. 1) if neither team is in their conference title game, they almost surely aren't in the CFP discussion. so SOS and quality wins won't matter. 2) unless a team is stuck on 5 wins, trying to make a bowl then it won't really matter either. and in that case, we'd probably try to schedule a scrub team to get to 6 wins for that week instead of sticking with WV.

FSU rescheduled with UL Monore last year....but they needed the win for bowl eligibility and ULM was a guaranteed win. not really the case with this game.

"RALEIGH, NC (WOWK) - 13 News can exclusively report this Saturday’s game between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the North Carolina State Wolfpack will be canceled due to Hurricane Florence.

13 News has been working with sources in the Big 12, at NC State and WVU and they are all pointing to an announcement sometime today or early Wednesday.

Once again, the game will be canceled and here's how this is expected to work out:

Our sources say NC State is refusing to come to Morgantown to play the game even if there was a 50/50 split at Mylan Puskar Stadium or even if NC State took all the profits. Our sources say WVU is trying to preserve Will Greir's Heisman status and WVU wants the opportunity for an additional win.

If they do agree to reschedule, it will look like this: the NC State game would possibly be played on October 13th. Then WVU’s game with Iowa State would be pushed back to a Thursday night game on October 18th.

This is all up in the air for now, but we know this for sure, all parties involved, on various levels have been told to stop their regular game week duties until this is sorted out.

We will keep you updated as we get more information on this story. "

WVU can go to hell with that bullshit spin.

We asked them to consider moving it to Sunday. Their HC said "no".
They asked us to go to WVU. Our staff said "no".

Not sure why it's our fault that we don't want to give up homefield advantage and try to travel in the middle of a major hurricane to play a game on Saturday. We either travel early and miss prep time, or we travel on our normal schedule and depart as the hurricane effects are being felt.

Oh well, another week to prepare for Marshall and IF we end up playing WVU, we'll have Angeline back.

Raleigh got 10 inches from Matthew. All the rainfall estimates I've seen so far for Raleigh from Florence are in the 12 inch range. Not much different.

Can someone tell me why there isn't a game thread for the WVU game? Serious slacking here...

If we did move the game to October 13th, we'd get some valuable extra practice in against @Marshall, UVA, and BC. It's not like we were going to go to Death Valley and win so I'd actually like our odds better in this scenario anyway and hopefully we'd have some additional guys healthy and maybe get our run game better established.

I don’t see what’s to gain by moving the game and taking away our bye (which is conveniently in the middle of the season). ACC play is more important than this OOC game.

"James Henderson 9:26a Staff
Checked around on Monday and from what I've been able to gather I think we'll have a definitive decision on the game over the next 24 hours. The general vibe I'm getting is this game will not be played.

However, I believe both teams want to play this game and are waiting it out in hopes of late shifts in the Hurricane Florence models to suggest it is possible. Personally, I think a decision will come no later than Wednesday to provide adequate time either way.

IMO, NC State does NOT want to have another situation like in 2016. That game was played but ended up being a fairly dangerous situation. Also, IIRC, when Matthew hit NC State was on the edge of the storm and there were still major issues, this is projected to be a far worse situation.

One factor to consider is if this Hurricane hits as expected, the game wouldn't be fully staffed by police and medical personnel because they will be out for the most part helping the community. With the likely travel concerns, that is an issue.

Per sources, moving to Sunday does NOT appear to be an option. West Virginia has a conference game next week and the threat of an extended stay in Raleigh is a concern. From what I've gathered, West Virginia isn't interested in playing this game in inclement weather.

I've also heard rumors of potentially moving the game to Charlotte or Atlanta and don't believe those are options either.

What are the logical options at this point?
1. The weather outlook changes and the game is able to be played.

2. The game is cancelled and not rescheduled this year. Could it be made up in future years? It would depend on if both schools can find a date that fits for each.

There is no guarantee that if it is canceled it will ever be made up. NC State could just go to WVU in 2019 and that be the end of the series.

3. The game is moved to NC State's bye week (Oct. 13). West Virginia is currently scheduled to play Iowa State that day, but the Iowa State game could be moved up a week (replacing Iowa State's bye). IIRC, both Iowa State and WVU have their bye that week (Oct 20).

4. The game is postponed and potentially played the week of the ACC Championship if neither NC State or WVU win their respective divisions. This is what FSU did last year with the game they lost early in the year due to weather.

Prediction: Based on what we're hearing, this game will not be played on Saturday. Could it be moved to the bye week? Yes, but the logistics of involving another team (Iowa State) may make it too difficult to get done.

Option 4 is an option but that's something that would probably be discussed late in the season once both teams have an idea of where they stand."

Yeah, have fun if they move it to oct. 13th. There will be ZERO parking for that game, as the Wolfpack Club/University would have to find parking for all the students as well as everyone who currently has passes for whatever the lot is at the horse barn.

The last time they had a game during the fair they used the back of the horse complex for parking, but that is now used as livestock trailer parking.

This game is only gonna get played in December or not at all.

I wish we had scheduled the other way around, then we'd be canceling the Marshall game and have an extra week to prep for WV at home.

Does this change the number of games we need to win to be bowl-eligible? Since we have one less chance to get there?

How is this different than the ND hurricane game 2 years ago? Seems like the storm will be west of Raleigh or pretty weak by the time Saturday rolls around. I'd assume ND flew from IN, but WV seems more driveable.
They probably don't want Wayne Day Family Field fucked up for the rest of the year.

No this doesn’t change our bowl eligibility. Still win 6 games.

And Matthew hit on Saturday. ND was already in town. This is different with the storm’s arrival time. And it’s obviously stronger than Matthew.

Lol at being mad about a football game being postponed. It’s not that big of a deal.
