Just got an email that Bernie is being outspent in Nevada and needs more donations. But they just raised a ton of money last month and last year and have armies of volunteers. Why don't I see this money being spent on ads in California? Where is it going? I have some deep reservations in the back of my head that he is just raising money for the nominee to spend in the general.

Both. I'm in a lot of leftist groups and for the most part, they hate Bernie and constantly tell people like me how dumb I am for falling into the trap supporting him. They see him as just a side of the DNC catered towards converting leftists into democrats to prevent future progress. Last election they called him Sheepdog Bernie. Last election, the "weirdos" were right.

They have some criticisms of Bernie policy I agree with but I'm still willing to support and vote for Bernie as a compromise. This is why the democrats on the right claiming "no purity" are nuts. I'm already bending over backwards to vote for a democrat.

I've been in California and New York the whole time and haven't seen a single Bernie ad. I do find that odd in a super Tuesday state of this magnitude but not NY. I would love to know if Daave has some insights into where all this money is actually going and how its being spent.

Quote :
"While Pete spends time with billionaires at a handful of closed-door fundraising events, Bernie has 1.5 million people who have made 7 million donations to fund this campaign. That is unprecedented at this point in an election.

But here is the truth:

Right now we are getting outspent in Nevada with early voting underway and the caucus just five days away. So we need a lot of donations to close the gap.

Can you add one for Bernie?"

If I was to turn on Nevada TV, would I see a bunch of Bernie ads? They need to be spending at a pace where the accounts are empty by the end of these primaries. The email didn't even mention billionaires, it mentioned how Pete is raising money from the rich. That shouldn't be an excuse because Bernie has raised larger totals so why is he talking about Pete outspending him?

Uhhh what leftist groups are you in? Red Guard Austin? This is a serious fringe position that I've only seen taken by hardcore MLs or MLMs who ignore the fact that Bernie has caused a rise in membership in their movements.

"Key Findings:

Senator Bernie Sanders has a commanding nineteen point in the Nevada caucus, with 35 percent of likely caucusgoers supporting him. He is followed by Senator Elizabeth Warren, former Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Former Vice President Joe Biden who are all tightly clustered at 16, 15 and 14 percentage points, respectively.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, whose third place finish in the New Hampshire primary garnered considerable media coverage sits in sixth place with 9 percent of likely caucusgoers supporting her.

Sanders performs extremely well with Hispanic likely caucusgoers, registering 66 percent support, with no other candidate cracking double digits. He continues to see strong support among younger voters, with likely caucusgoers under 45 supporting him at 64 percent. Of those who have made up their mind, Sanders registers 47 percent support.

Democratic voters strongly support both Medicare for All (69 percent in support, 23 percent opposed) and a Green New Deal (93 percent in support, 6 percent opposed)."

66% among Hispanic caucusgoers, no other candidate breaks double digits? Wow

I attend Socialist party USA, Peace and freedom party, and green party local meetings from time to time and follow a ton of these folks on social media. From those experiences, I've ended up being invited to a bunch of closed facebook groups where all these types of discussions take place. It gets pretty heated but I'm always on the pro-bernie side of those debates.

No one's ever said Bernie was a republican or just as bad as republicans (or even just as bad as democrats) but they question some of his policies and generally have doubts about his determination and ability to win. They don't attack him, they just kinda "meh" him. My only fear of Bernie is that he will lay over for the DNC. (Blindly following someone no matter what is basically Trumpism right?)

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2020/02/14/sand-f14.html
This is the article thats been flooding my feed all weekend as a perfect example of the criticism. They aren't saying he would be worse in any way, they are just saying he wouldn't be revolutionary in EVERY way.

Even when you think you know something is for sure, you still should have the awareness to constantly look for indicators that its true. Bernie spending the money he raises is the indicator I'm looking for. I don't know what I'm talking about and don't know how campaigns typically spend their money or what the plans are which is why I'm asking you. As donors, we should have some transparency into how the money is planning to be spent. Maybe there is and I just don't know about it or maybe its strategic and I just have to wait and see if the money ends up going somewhere else or not.

yeah it's good to see how listen to people can change your views

him today:
Quote :
"Institute a moratorium on deportations until a thorough audit of past practices and policies is complete.
Reinstate and expand DACA and develop a humane policy for those seeking asylum.
Completely reshape and reform our immigration enforcement system, including breaking up ICE and CBP and redistributing their functions to their proper authorities.
Dismantle cruel and inhumane deportation programs and detention centers and reunite families who have been separated.
Live up to our ideals as a nation and welcome refugees and those seeking asylum, including those displaced by climate change."

Not taking donations is a feature, where the candidate is not beholden to any puppet masters...most especially if it stiff-arms the corporations, maaaaaan.

Unless you dislike him, in which case it’s a bug, where there’s no accountability.

I agree that Bernie is very credible here.

But how come the change your views thing doesn’t apply to Kamala being a cop or Warren being Native American or Biden and the Iraq war, or Pete on black lives matter?

I'm a little concerned about Bernie's stance on asylum seekers due to climate change. That's painting with a potentially very broad stroke, for a yet-do-be-defined criteria.

As far as Bloomberg is concerned, he's no better than Trump, and if any Democrats end up supporting them, then all of the crap they've said about Trump becomes null and void.

Well the item in the post I replied to was about her claiming to be native american, which she did do and has lied about and never really satisfactorily apologized for

I dont doubt her credibility on consumer protection or fighting big banks, I believe she has a sincere and strongly held belief about those things because actions she has taken. I also trust her more on those things than obama.

I dislike Bloomberg greatly, but fantastic false equivalence rjrumple. I would love to dive into all the terrible shit Trump has done and said both in his private life and since he has been elected to public office, and compare them to Bloomberg's many misdeeds, but your terrible take ain't worth it.

I don't know if Bloomberg is credibly accused of any sexual assaults, but other than that his record is easily worse then Trump's pre presidency record. If Trump had also been mayor, they may have been tied.

Bloomberg is worse.

At least Trump ran as a straight-shooting republican and is good for republicans. He's basically only a half-con and delivers a ton on things that would be in their agenda regardless. Even his absolute worst actions have been pretty transparent.

Bloomberg on the other hand, is a full-con and would be bad for all 99% of us. He's much more Machiavellian and therefor more dangerous. Fuck him all the way. Why don't you tell us how he's better?

Lol there's no way Trump would get away with this.

Quote :
"In her lawsuit, Garrison also recalls Bloomberg taking another female employee to task for her pregnancy, responding “what the hell did you do a thing like that for” upon learning the woman was having a baby. In another instance, according to the lawsuit, he allegedly screamed at a woman who was looking for a nanny, “It’s a fucking baby! … All you need is some black who doesn’t have to speak English to rescue it from a burning building.”"

Quote :
"“I know for a fact that any self-respecting woman who walks past a construction site and doesn’t get a whistle will turn around and walk past again and again until she does get one.”"

I mean, when I read those, I hear Trump in my head, not Bloomberg, but Bloomberg supposedly said them.

Oh well. He isn't going to win the nomination, but unfortunately he's going to be a huge distraction for the serious candidates. But I guess the same was said of Trump in 2016...probably by me as well.

So you're saying Bloomberg has bragged about sexually assaulting women, and also has accordingly been accused of sexually assaulting many many many women, paid off some of the victims, and had his attorneys and friends at the National Enquirer bully and intimidate many other victims, called Mexican immigrants rapists and murders, and backed up those disgusting comments with equally disgusting policies, colluded with and propped up with many foreign enemies, and obstructed justice and Congress in support of vast foreign collusion, firing his many of his own appointees who don't tow the line, supported and gave a voice to uncountable white supremacists and their disgusting hate groups, including sustained and vocal support of the birther movement and the Charlottesville hate riots, and encouraged violence against his political opponents etc etc etc.

Still a dumb false equivalence for me. I mean I get where you're coming from as a Bernie Bro but it's still dumb, for reasons expressed above.

Bloomberg is pretty much last on my list for the primary but I don't see the value in buying into dumb rjrumple-like false equivalence arguments unless you view him as a threat, which I do not.

In fact his bankroll was an obvious asset in 2018 and I look forward to it being an asset again in 2020.

^This is all I'm trying to say.

I mean Jesus, it's 2016 all over again, except this time the Democratic field is getting it instead of the Republicans. Bloomberg is a rich, sexist, racist clown just like Trump, coming in with his own money funding his campaign, with what seemed to be little or no chance of getting the nomination.

I bet not many people on this board drink soda, but God forbid anybody else who does. Bloomberg will EO that shit out of existence.

Bloomberg is awful and the oppo still to come is going to be way, way worse than what we’ve seen so far. And it’s so disheartening to see him essentially buying votes and endorsements with unlimited funds. Trump is still way, way worse of course.

I really don’t like her and I know that is going to rankle people on here who can’t take any Sanders criticism. This is an obscene comparison to make and downright insulting. Also, I have a major problem with a Jill Stein voter being the spokesperson for a Democratic candidate.

I think it would be good to have an independent group of doctors that checked out any/all presidential candidates to say like this person is likely to be in good health for 4-8 years or some shit, but not release medical records. But beyond that, I'm prepared to go full hypocrite. Dems absolutely shouldn't release anything Trump doesn't bc it will just be used for attacks. That goes for tax returns too. Release once you win maybe.

Ageism can be a problem but its not really the same. Don't you wish a doctor had diagnosed Reagan or Trump with early stage dementia and indicated they may not be fit to run the country? A president dying in office would also obviously be chaos.

People that are ONLY asking about Bernie are prob dirtbags, I'd agree with that.
