5^ I was hoping with their mentioning D&D in the show that they tried to parallel the show monster to the AD&D demogorgon, but that doesn't appear to be the case based on the limited information that I found.

If I were to describe this monster using D&D logic, it seems to follow basic undead/skeleton monster mechanics. It has heavy resistance to projectiles (bullets), but blunt weapons and magic are very effective. From what I could tell, the D&D monster followed similar logic in terms of being weaker to physical (blunt) attacks and also had extra armor to projectiles. A contrast is that the D&D monster was heavily resistant to magic and fire.

Something about this show and its 80s references is really bringing the nerd out of me...

I think it is bringing the nerd out in most of us.

Being a kid around this general timeframe was so great, and this show brings back those wonderful memories.

A cool interview, but also an awesome video showing comparisons in the show to the dozens of similar movies they "borrowed" from..

***SPOILERS***

http://nerdist.com/stranger-things-season-2-what-we-know-so-far/

Quote :
"Today’s Nerdist News is heading to The Upside Down to talk about all things Stranger Things season two! The 8-episode belle of the Netflix-ball recently shot into the nerdosphere thanks to some well-harnessed nostalgia, crazy cool new sci-fi worlds, and my personal ’80s queen Winona Ryder. But the question left on everyone’s minds is: what’s next?? While Netflix hasn’t formally greenlit season two, they’ve previously renewed shows like Hemlock Grove and Marco Polo with much fewer viewers. That being said, we’re confident Stranger Things will be coming back to answer all the question breadcrumbs the show creators, the Duffer Brothers, left along the way. So let’s jump into all the clues, shall we?

And who better to start off with than Eleven. The standout badass of the show, Eleven killed it in season one. After we saw Hopper drop her favorite treat, Eggos, into a hidden forest box near Nancy’s tree-portal to the upside-down, we’re thinking Eleven’s definitely out there and the United States government knows it, too. The question remains: is she chilling in the forest after somehow restoring herself? Did she teleport back to The Upside Down? Is she somewhere else living a brand new mystery for us to solve in season two? We’d just love to know more about that spooky evil dust and those creepy Demogorgon eggs.

Oh! And what’s wrong with Will? The last time we saw him, he was barfing inter-dimensional slugs into the sink as he flashed back to The Upside Down. (Man, I love that this show exists.) Did he really escape? Or did he bring it back to our reality and set off a whole new series of events?? The Duffer Brothers gave a hint saying, “Is Will okay? The short answer being no.” They also mentioned three other characters entered The Upside Down without a helmet, so they’re definitely susceptible to whatever affects Will is also experiencing. Does that mean season two might bring a contagion-esque epidemic our way?

That theory might hold considering the new, nicer crew running the Hawkins lab. According to the Duffers, the new batch of scientists will “seem a little bit more friendly… at least in the beginning.” Either way, it’ll be cool to see more of Hawkins, and hopefully even more sci-fi concepts thrown in! Time travel anyone? Perhaps a Hawken-stein monster? The other ten super-kids that came before Eleven?

One thing that was confirmed is the timeframe: Season two will skip forward a year, accounting for the aging of the child actors. The brothers said they’d love to produce an era-appropriate 8-bit video game to fill in the gap year’s story, to which we say: um… please?!?!?!

But what do you guys think? Are you as psyched as we are for Stranger Things season two? Were you hoping for more of an anthology series a la American Horror Story? Are you just waiting for a Twelve to show up? Let’s discuss!"

A quote from ^^

Quote :
"The show got rejected by “15 to 20” networks"

Seriously? When are the big networks going to learn to take chances? I bet this isn't the first time Netflix has picked up other rejected shows and turned them into quality hits.

That is a bit of a click-bait 'fact' to garner more warm fuzzies for the show.

Technically the statement is correct in that the Duffer brothers were rejected 15+ times by major networks . . . when all they had was a basic script. They then changed tactics, found a good producer, and then fleshed out the script more. After that, the producer (not the Duffers) took the show to his first choice, Netflix, and they were picked up.

who else went in without a helmet? I know that Mike's sister did, and I think the cop did, but I couldn't think of a third. I suppose that may be 11?

It was a great series for sure. Obviously there are leads to a season two. It was based off the Montauk Project (look it up and it is a conspiracy nut's dream). In the Montauk Project the monster was manifested from the subconscious during experiments but I am not sure if that was necessarily implied here.

The monster, aka Bitey McFlowerface, is obviously a faerie from the Nevernever a la The Dresden Files. As such, it's vulnerable to cold iron which explains why the bear trap and spiky baseball bat we so effective while lead bullets were much less so.

Finished this yesterday. So many times these days I finish a show, then come find a thread here and say, "I really like this show, but have just a couple gripes..."

But really I can't find anything wrong with this at all. Acting, cinematography, story, dialogue, music...all great

That was pretty awesome.

I wasn't a Dungeons and Dragons nerd, but I grew up riding bikes with my friends to our "hideouts" and treehouses/forts in the woods. So definitely some nostalgia going on while watching this.

Just some general observations:

- That cop turned into a real bad-ass. They made him seem like an ex-Navy Seal once he started caring about shit.

- Did Winona Winona Rider have more than two lines where she wasn't screaming/crying/freaking out? Seems like that would get tiring from an acting standpoint.

- Nancy is fly...but she could eat a sammich or two.

- Seconded on previous comment about Steve's dick-game. He pulls off the "I'm carefree, but I really do care" schtick extremely well.

- Toothless was awesome

Two thumbs up! Can't wait for the next season.

No BTTT yet for the Superbowl ad last night? Below is one of the many trailer breakdown videos already available on youtube. This was a good binge watch - I'll probably give Season 2 a watch.

Episode 7 was awful.

Overall, I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. Did not enjoy the Billy scenes at all.

^^ that was the only thing i could come up with, but he seemed to have a problem with her hanging out with friends before he saw any of them.

it was just super weird, i wonder if there are deleted scenes that explain his character or if he was just a terrible character from the beginning
