What is the purpose of waiting 1 hour after sunset to break fast?[Edited on September 25, 2012 at 7:17 PM. Reason : ]
9/25/2012 7:07:23 PM
Official sunset time for where I am is 6:49pm (GMT -7)
9/25/2012 7:19:53 PM
what a dumb thing, religions are dumb
9/25/2012 7:21:17 PM
^^Ah okay, one of my coworkers said she can't break fast until an hour after sunset "just to be sure" and I wasn't sure if that was a standard thing or what.
9/25/2012 7:23:00 PM
So God uses GMT? That's weird.
9/25/2012 7:25:13 PM
no, bdmazur is just saying what time sunset is; his time zone is GMT-7 (subtract 7 hours from GMT to get local time), which is consistent with living in Pacific Daylight time

^^no, he is giving a sunset time for a huge giant time zone. Its weird that God uses a totally arbitrary, man-made, discrete way of dividing sunset times. Weird that he uses GMT

Feeling pretty good (and pretty drunk) now. Go 24 hours without eating then take a few shots, it's fun.

haha idk why I laughed so hard at the pizza and cookies, because it seems like the logical thing to do if you're gonna take a picture of itand left beef is always a winner

Anyone regularly fast? I can't imagine not eating anything from the moment i wake up to the moment i go to bed, but want to try. Supposed to be good giving your digestive system a break
9/12/2025 9:26:06 PM
Why not? You already don't eat anything from the moment you go to bed until the moment you get up. It's just swapping things around.
9/13/2025 7:27:39 AM
Haha The Coz, I like the way you think about things!

Many millions of adherent Muslims do this for a month every year. Eat when waking and before bed and let your usually longer waking hours be your fasting hours. You can adapt very easily. I usually eat at around 1:00 PM and then between 6:30 and 7:00 PM (out of habit, not religious conviction). I don't feel any hunger pangs or noticeably reduced mental or physical performance. But I can easily shuffle around and eat early if breakfast is provided and I have a high likelihood of missing either lunch or dinner. Three full meals a day can be a tough adjustment when traveling with others who demand it.
