If TBDV can be half as good as that goofy white kid for Kansas that dominated us then we'll be really, really good.

i think Leslie could be a consistent 3pt threat. It's just this year when he took them, you could tell while he was shooting: "i know coach doesn't want me to do this and probably every other person on pack pride and tdub, but damn it, i'm wide fucking open"

I just want him to quit thinking about it. dats all

I think CJL needs a consistent 15-footer before he can be a reliable shooter from 20'.

I've never really understood all of the love/hope/optimism for Vandenburg. As much as I hate to say it, the guy just isn't any good. If he catches the ball anywhere further than 2 feet from the rim, it seems there's about a 60% chance he's going to turn it over. (You just can't be that turnover prone, especially in an offense where he needs to be able to handle the ball in the high post.) If he catches it at the rim there's a 75% chance he will be blocked or just miss the damn layup/dunk. Dude will forever have a stat line the likes of 2pts, 4 fouls, 1 blk, 4 TO in 14 min from now until he leaves this school.

There has never been any love. Are you blind? We all say if he could learn. If he could develop. It's all hypothetical.

he actually played well for a few minutes here and there last year. he's never gonna be henson, he's never gonna be a focal point of our offense, but he should be more than serviceable.

he only averaged .4 turnovers and 1.6 fouls in 10 mins in 2010/11.
I'm not sure why you think he'll average 4 turnovers and 4 fouls in 14 mins in 2012/13.

I think he can learn and develop, just like any of our bench players right now. He's a liability right now (or he was at the beginning of the season when he last played), but he's got potential. At the very least, he can keep some of our other bigs from absorbing all of the fouls out there, and minimize his turnovers. At best, he can be a threat offensively and defensively with his size. I'd like to get him to the point where I don't visibly cringe if he's on the court. I was at that point with Harris this season, and he's made some great improvements.

The impact of a giant, shot-blocking center can't be understated. Vandy has the size and athleticism to be a poor man's Withey. Its just a matter of him putting in the hard work and then having things click.

I think that he'll give us 15 minutes per game next year, and he'll be ready to start the following season.

Bullet, you're right. He does need to be consistent from 15ft but i don't recall him ever taking shots in the mid range, he's either going to the basket or shooting 3's. With that said, I think he has every ability to be as "consistent" as Harrison Barnes is from 15-20ft. I think that's what has to drive him this offseason, because if he can do that, he'll be lottery for sure, around the basket and driving he's just so quick.

As for Vandy, all i want him to do is score on dunks when no one is around him and be able to rebound, defend and block shots, which he can do, he just needs to be pushed.

Maybe I'm not remembering this correctly, but I thought Leslie was pretty consistent with his jumper. He doesn't take them often, but I think he's hit a fair number of them this season.

I don't get it. Leslie is a "big" - his craft is scoring points in the paint. Why take that away from him? If he's playing wing, like some of you are suggesting, that means he is feeding someone else in the post and watching them go to work.

I want Leslie getting the ball in the paint.

It could be me, I just feel like I occasionally see a post saying, "Hopefully TBDV can do this" or "Hopefull TBDV can do that". I'm just so far beyond having any hope for this guy at all that I've mentally written him off. To me, he's a warm body occupying a scholarship and nothing more. Maybe he can prove me wrong shrug

damn it beethoven, you're right, more than bullet, he actually did hit that shot pretty consistently, as a matter of fact, he hit that shot at key times, hit a big one during the Gtown game, that ended a drought. So i go back, he needs to shoot 500 3's/day.

MORR, he will get the ball in the paint, but the way this offense works, if he gets the ball in the high post and his man sags off him, i just want leslie to be a consistent threat to shoot and hit the 3. Now, when his man comes up on him (think Barnes because Barnes defender has to play him tight all the way out to the 3pt line) then Leslie has the quicks to blow by anyone in the country. He'll be "unfair" to guard.

^^^i do too (want leslie to get in the paint), but if he was consistent threat from 15, he could drag his defender out of the paint, and then blow by him or dish inside.

and he did drain some mid-range shots. but he probably badly missed just as often. i don't recall him taking that many.

I like the way he plays now. Sure, he can improve his shot, but I feel like he's already a threat to shoot mid-range. He's got a good shot. I feel like defenders respected his shot and he consistently dragged them out away from the basket and then blew by them. And when they didn't, he knocked down a jumper about every other game.

currently leslie is a guy that if you give him a full 10 seconds unguarded he will line up a jumpshot. that's not really the same thing as being a "threat" to shoot.

Leslie needs a jump shot to be an effective scorer in the NBA. For the college game though, and especially for our team next year, I could care less if he ever scores a point outside the paint. His face up and drive game is absolutely perfect as is for our offense. To really maximize his contributions to our team next season, he needs to develop his back to the basket game some more and add a little more bulk. He's not going to be shooting many jump shots in our offense regardless, so why the hell would we want him to prioritize that aspect of his game?

Hell, we play in the fucking ACC. I don't even want guards taking jump shots. I want a team of ballers that drive to the basket, take advantage of the shitty reffing, and rack up fouls on the other team.

^^^ exactly. And I mean, qu.asi Scott Wood ready (not necessarily the percentage made). I just think that's the next aspect to his game to develop.

I don't want to see him have to take on the Withey's and Henson's of the world only to see it swatted away.

G Lorenzo Brown, jr.
G Scott Wood, sr.
F T.J. Warren, fr.
F Richard Howell, sr.
F DeShawn Painter, sr.
Top returning reserves: F Thomas de Thaey, soph., F Tyler Harris, soph., F Jordan Vandenberg, r-jr.
Freshmen: Warren, PG Tyler Lewis, G Rodney Purvis
The Skinny: If C.J. Leslie comes back, N.C. State will go off as the league favorite in November. Without him, the Wolfpack could still win the league but handling expectations has been a recent problem for the program. There's no guarantee the confidence from March will carry over to November but coach Mark Gottfried has proven he can motivate, and that's 75 percent of the battle.
Roles will be less clear-cut and managing the minutes will be more of a challenge for Gottfried but State will have more good parts and that can only be construed as a good thing."

The team certainly doesn't remind me of Lowe's team after his first year. And Gottfried's first season didn't remind me of Lowe's (even with our lucky run to the ACC finals under Lowe)

yeah, this is what i was getting at. i don't think Coach will let him be one dimensional -- when the 3 isnt falling, it can become a liability. i think Wood will step it up at G the way Brown did at PG, once Coach sells him on it.

While it would be nice for Wood to diversify his offensive game, that's like asking for square peg/round hole at this point. Dude is what he is. I just want to see his lazy ass do something when his shot isn't falling. Sacrifice your body, dive on the floor for loose balls, set a pick, fucking do something other than stand in the corner waiting for someone to pass you the ball.

He could at least put the ball on the floor a bit more and draw fouls. I wouldn't think that would be that hard to work on more.

Wood just needs to work with Johnson all summer on a pump fake. I cant remember the last time I saw a guy get so many people in the air. Wood + AJ Pump fake = 3 Free throws or 4 point plays.

the AJ pump fake is not to be confused with the Horner triple Pump Fake/seizure

Leave the ball-handling and driving to Brown, Purvis, and Lewis. I don't think Wood needs to try to be something he's not.

I think CJW's inability to dribble-drive hurt Wood's productivity. Brown was about our only player that could get penetration in the lane and kick out to a shooter. That's why I'm looking forward to Purvis and Lewis getting here.
