Despite their big comeback last night, FSU has actually been playing pretty mediocre. Their offense the past few games looks like their typical boring shit they've had for years. If State plays with the energy they had last night and of course stays out of foul trouble, we should win this game.

FSU = 61
State = 65

I think we win by 10+, if you watched the FSU/VT game last night, they arent good, at all. It took an "NC STATE SHIT" meltdown from VT to win. Both sides looked like they couldnt buy a basket for the better part of the first half, and VT opened the second half with a 17-0 run if I remember correctly.

We are home. Gottfried puts a boot in their ass and then prepares for UNC.

One advantage that we have is that our best players will be fresh after Gottfried wisely rested them in the 2nd half against Duke after we built an insurmountable lead.

Fsu on the other hand played their good players . I mean sure they won their game but they would have been better served looking ahead to their next opponent

i know rally/face/martin is a joke, and i didn't follow the duke thread, but what's he talking about? we had 3 of our starters foul out of the game.

[Edited on February 17, 2012 at 1:03 PM. Reason : i think i'm understanding. he's mad at gott benching players after they got 5 fouls]

Just driving home the point I made months ago that you never bench guys who are in "foul trouble".

I presented that logical point and got ripped for it by a bunch of mongloids that couldn't pass game theory 101.

Now that everyone realizes I was right I am here to point that out.

Don't troll so hard if you don't want to get your nose rubbed in it later.

Ok I'm out. Hope we lose out to finish the season !

yep. benching players in foul trouble is what pretty much every team in college does. yet it's the dumbest thing ever to do, according to face. Earl is better than this

You're right its much better to just lose.

If I could choose between losing and playing the percentages with optimal strategy I'd just select losing because nc state is accustomed to it and its more comfortable

also I guess when CJ Williams picked up his 4th foul with 19:30 remaining in the 2nd half, we shouldve kept him in there

so, whats the difference between sitting a player for 5 minutes because he's in foul trouble versus not sitting him for that time, him picking up his 5th, and then being out for the last 15 minutes? fucking moron

out of all the crazy opinions, this one makes the most sense. I don't like face, but there is something to be said for all this. If you keep those guys in, I don't think a bench can lose a 30 point game. If you take them out, you minimize the potential amount of time they can play.

This is necessary from the standpoint that we need an RPI top 25 win.

FSU is currently 24, so it only helps a little.

If we lose, the only way we make the tournament is by either winning out or winning 3 of our last 4 and making it to Saturday in the ACCT.

Most nc state players are like the students in that they didn't get a chance to go to their school of choice.

So they are preconditioned to losing. They just don't have what it takes to rise above the losing.

People are content to be at state . They value participation ribbons here. We are accepting of losing. If we win we throw a parade if we lose we make a really scrunchy face and say go get em next time!!!

if face had his way, our entire starting lineup would've fouled out instead of only 60% of our starting lineup fouling out

Duke lives off points inside the arc. I doubt they get those against us.

They don't shoot threes at all. That's our main weakness defensively.

Defensively they are horrid.

They are hopelessly short and have zero depth.

I like NC State vs the spread. This has all the makings of a 30+ point game that might only be a 15 point spread.

State still has a good shot to finish in the top 4 in the conference giving us a much better chance to make it to Saturday in the tourney. With our depth issues, we cannot be playing 3-4 games in 3-4 days.

Both Miami and UVA are still a game behind us and both still have some tough games ahead. Our road is the toughest, but if we can steal one against FSU and beat Miami, the 4 seed should attainable.

It's slightly more likely that UVA loses 2 than us. They have UNC and FSU at home, we have UNC and Miami at home.

Miami has the easiest path to the top 3, since they only have us, FSU, UMd, BC, and Wake.

FSU has us, Duke, Miami, VT, and Clempson.

I'd say that Miami has the easiest schedule, followed by FSU, us, and UVA.

Of course, we're a game up on Miami and UVA, so that helps in the case that they pull off a run of the table. We'd lose a tiebreaker to UVA though.

V I'm talking about end of the season scenarios, numbnutz. FSU still could very likely lose 3 while we lose only 1 (assuming UNC as a likely loss).

If one of those losses is us, we'd finish 3rd.

I actually agree with rally...just not for last night's game. We actually built the lead to 20 points WITHOUT the starters. I can't blame Gottfried for keeping them out until Duke got it down to 10.

Glad people are opening their minds to new things. Sometimes it takes an exceptional example for people to accept that conventional wisdom is incorrect.

Since everyone is in an intellectual mood today, what topics should we explore next?

Anyone ever played monopoly? Did you know the orange properties have the best ROI in the game? I'd never try to explain this to my 6 year old nephew, he'd probably give me the whole orange color group for boardwalk or park place .

Anyway there are a few reasons why but the predominant reason is that the most statistically likely space to roll from is jail. This is because you can reach jail by landing on it, landing on go to jail, rolling doubles three times, or via chance or community chest. Once in jail you are highly likely to roll a number that lands you on an orange space on your next roll or combination of two rolls.

Also, the railroads are great cash producing assets to help you build houses on your properties. However, the utilities are the worst properties to own in the game. Your greatest ROI is typically achieved from building 3 houses on each property.

Ok now that we understand basic monopoly strategy and why you should never bench a player in foul trouble unless he's fatigued what other topics should we broach?

I'm sure most of us have already discussed the prisoners dilemma ad nausem so we can leave that alone. Are you familiar with why you should ALWAYS switch your guess on Let's Make A Deal? You have a 66.67% chance of winning if you switch but only 33.33% if you stand pat.

I like that the collective intelligence is rising enough to have grown up conversations here. It's like having a kid morph into a real live human who no longer can just say bird while they ear spagetti o's

I understand the foul trouble theory under normal circumstances, but to say that you should "never" bench someone seems extreme. You're saying if you're leading scorer or best lockdown defender picks up his 4th foul at the 8:00 mark in the 1st half in a rivalry game where the refs are calling an exceptionally high number of ticky-tack fouls on both teams, you'd leave him in?

Youre right never is not the correct way to phrase it.

We should've been rotating guys with foul trouble last night in that situation. Play 4 starters and 1 bench player is ok. You just can't bench the whole team like that.

If you foul out you are out of the game. If you foul four times and the coach takes you out, you are still out of the game

really? are you familiar with the fact that you are a fucking moron who doesn't understand statistics? you watched Mythbusters do one iteration, poorly, of the experiment, and then declared that it always held true that way. THe fact is, you ALWAYS have a fifty-fifty possibility in that situation, because they will always show you one empty door, leaving you to choose between two doors. The first pick is in no way related to the second. Put it this way, dumbass: what if they showed you three doors, then took away one, then asked you to pick. What is your chance now? right, 50 fucking percent. you have the exact same choice, whether you "picked" a door before they show you an empty one or not: pick this door, pick that door.
