As somebody who is pretty new to AppleTV (just bought it a few months ago and definitely enjoy it), could somebody sell me on the new version of AppleTV? I am somewhat interested in getting a 2nd device to use with a TV in a different room. But the new one is $150-200, I think I saw. I understand there are Siri capabilities, maybe some gaming stuff...that doesn't necessarily appeal to me. But I really don't know much about it the new AppleTV other than that. If it's a significant upgrade, I'd definitely be interested in getting the new one and moving the old one to a TV in a different room. But that $69 price tag on the old one is still pretty appealing to me if I do end up getting a 2nd.

Depends on what you want to use it for, but if the gaming doesn't appeal to you at all, then I wouldn't even put it into consideration. That and having Siri are really the only benefits to the new ATV.

Heck, unless you just really love Apple and already have a ton of content in their ecosystem and/or really need Airplay on all your devices, I think the old $69 version is fairly overpriced for what it does. I'd look into a Fire TV stick, or even a Chromecast if all you want to do is watch Netflix.

I'm shocked that they had the gall to again only offer the iPhone in 16GB or 64GB.

16, 64, 128

The 16GB version exists for one reason: to drive sales of the 64GB version.

Most people don't want the 16GB version, and will pony up the extra $100 for the 64.

If the entry level was a 32GB, a much larger swath of people would be fine with the base model, and the average sale price per phone would drop significantly.

the profit between 16GB and 64GB is absolutely massive given that the actual cost to Apple for the increased storage is a couple of bucks.

I might get the new Appletv for my den and just move that one to what will be our TV in the kitchen when we add on to the house. I think the new features will be useful for our household. I control the TV watching 95% of the time, so my wife has absolutely no idea which app has our program (netflix, hulu, hbo, showtime, etc). So she will definitely benefit from the search feature. Same goes for searching for movies. I'm sure there will be some neat/useful apps developed as well now that they've opened that up.

Bigger question is to get the 6s or 6s+ when my upgrade dates comes up in a few weeks.

I was going to get the 6s because the 6S+ is too big, but i'm told the battery life on the 6+makes it worthwhile from numerous work colleagues. Also, it looks like the 6S and + have slightly smaller batteries, though Apple advertises equivalent battery life-- perhaps the new processor is a bit more efficient with power consumption. even if that wasn't the case, i doubt the minor capacity difference with the new phones matter much.

6 1,810mAh

6+ 2,910 mAh

6S 1,715mAh

6S+2,750 mAh

and as a comparison for those of us with older phones, the 5S's battery is 1560 mAh

I will likely get the 6S+ as I tend to keep phones for ~3 years (still on an old iPhone 5).

I'm eligible for an upgrade (gotta 5s) and probably will get the 128gb 6s.

When I check the ATT site it says I'm NOT eligible for an upgrade. I assume this is because the 5s was released on Sept 20 2013, which is less than 2 years from 9/12/15.

But I read about Apple's upgrade program... http://appleinsider.com/articles/15/09/10/if-you-buy-applecare-apples-new-iphone-upgrade-program-is-a-great-deal

Do you have a source for saying this? I have a friend who manages an AT&T store, and another that works at an Apple store and they both say that the 64GB version is, by far, the biggest seller. Anicdotal evidence for sure, but I wouldn't doubt it one bit. $100 to jump from 16 to 32 was always a hard pill to swallow, but ever since they made the 2nd tier 64GB, it seems like a no-brainer to me.

Watched a good bit if the apple TV presentation and it looked pretty fucking sweet. If Siri works as good as they showed it to work, that alone makes it extremely desirable. I didn't get around to the part about the apps, but I imagine they'll come up with some pretty useful shit.

If you thought the Siri integration was good, the apps part is amazing. MLB app was impressive.

LOL that the woman started by talking about the freaking wallpapers they're including.

I'm getting one for sure

Seems like common sense to me. There's tons of people with iPhones and smartphone plans that really can't afford either. Makes sense they'd try to get their foot in the door the cheapest way possible.

yes. it's "how hard are you tapping" and "how hard are you holding" now.

I've yet to see a really cool demonstration of peek and pop though. Everything they've shown could be replicated with tap and hold. If they showed Cook "peeking" through emails like flipping through a deck of cards, that would be a better demo of the technology.

Either way, it'll be interesting to see what 3rd party devs do with it.

Yep. I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The jailbreak community has already replicated everything that iOS 9 can do on older hardware with long holds. Maybe in use it's a different story, but it's not enticing enough for me to want to upgrade this year.

Well, while not a benchmark pro, I would think those results of deceiving. I would expect an iPad to do better in some of those situations simply because the damned thing doesn't do much. When you are running a full operating system, it is a lot harder to get those kinda results.

My current Macbook Pro is going on 7 years and its time is starting to run out. I want the new one, but that touchbar seems worthless to me and not worth the extra $300. I think I'll go with the basic version.

Apple's going to kill it in the dongle business! Want to use an SD card? Dongle! Want to present over hdmi? Dongle!! Want to plug in the headphones that came with your new iPhone 7 (or iPhone for that matter)? Dongle!
