But as each one falls, another one takes his place. If you treat all of them as one, continuous candidate, Not-Romney has in fact done quite well. It's kind of like Highlander.

Big news item now is that back in 2008, Santorum was preaching that Satan has his sights on America

Quote :
""Satan has his sights on the United States of America!" Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared.

"Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition."

MORE

The former senator from Pennsylvania warned in 2008 how politics and government are falling to Satan.

"This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country - the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age?"

"He attacks all of us and he attacks all of our institutions."

Santorum made the provocative comments to students at Ave Maria University in Florida.

MORE

The White House contender described how Satan is even taking hold of some religions.

"We look at the shape of mainline Protestantism in this country and it is in shambles, it is gone from the world of Christianity as I see it."

Developing..."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/stevenbertoni/2012/02/21/billionaire-sheldon-adelson-says-he-might-give-100m-to-newt-gingrich-or-other-republican/

Quote :
"Billionaire Sheldon Adelson Says He Might Give $100M To Newt Gingrich Or Other Republican

Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, the 78-year-old CEO of casino giant Las Vegas Sands, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice.

Is that fair? “I’m against very wealthy people attempting to or influencing elections,” he shrugs. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it. Because I know that guys like Soros have been doing it for years, if not decades. And they stay below the radar by creating a network of corporations to funnel their money. I have my own philosophy and I’m not ashamed of it. I gave the money because there is no other legal way to do it. I don’t want to go through ten different corporations to hide my name. I’m proud of what I do and I’m not looking to escape recognition.”

He’s also proud of his hawkish defense of Israel—his wife is Israeli and his young sons carry Israeli passports. Yet those who have categorized his patronage of Gingrich and other Republicans as a one-issue investment have it wrong. The man whose net worth, by Forbes’ calculations, has jumped more ($21.6 billion) during Obama Administration than any American — Mark Zuckerberg included — wants to take the president out for economic reasons.“What scares me is the continuation of the socialist-style economy we’ve been experiencing for almost four years. That scares me because the redistribution of wealth is the path to more socialism, and to more of the government controlling people’s lives. What scares me is the lack of accountability that people would prefer to experience, just let the government take care of everything and I’ll go fish or I won’t work, etc.”

“U.S. domestic politics is very important to me because I see that the things that made this country great are now being relegated into duplicating that which is making other countries less great. … I’m afraid of the trend where more and more people have the tendency to want to be given instead of wanting to give. People are less willing to share. There are fewer philanthropists being grown and there are greater expectations of the government. I believe that people will come to their senses and not extend the current Administration’s quest to socialize this country. It won’t be a socialist democracy because it won’t be a democracy.”

So with Gingrich looking increasingly unviable, does that mean he’ll throw his largess behind another candidate? “If Ron Paul is chosen I certainly wouldn’t do that.” What about front-runner Mitt Romney? “I don’t want to say. Newspapers said I had two meetings with Romney and Gingrich [on Feb. 3], which is untrue. Most of what is being said about me in this current brouhaha is just not true. I know Romney; I like him. I know Santorum; I like him. … The likelihood is that I’m going to be supportive of whoever the candidate is. I just haven’t decided that yet and will wait to see what happens.”

Whomever he supports, Adelson claims he won’t pay for mudslinging. “I don’t believe in negative campaigning. I believe in saying that my opponents are very good people and I’m confident a lot of them would do a good job, but I would do a better job, and here’s why,” says Adelson. “Money is fungible, but you can’t take my money out of the total money you have and use it for negative campaigning.” Of course, that stance ignores the fact that an avalanche of negative ads against Romney won Gingrich South Carolina, and that Adelson’s $5 million injection was the dominant source of his funding. “That’s what everybody says, but that doesn’t mean it’s true,” the billionaire says, waving his hands dismissively. “Most of what’s been written about me in this is untrue.”"

^ What an assclown.

Santorum is your nominee, GOP. On the rise and keeping the momentum going, he's dominating news coverage for better or worse. He's the one who's going to get the base riled up, if anyone. The difference between this not-Romney and all the ones before are that this guy is the last one standing. Newt doesn't stand a chance and when the 5-15% who are still voting for him have to choose between Mitt and Rick guess who they're gonna pick. Santorum is going to win all of the midwest states and enough of the rest to go into the convention with more delegates than Romney. I can't wait to watch the demise of the Republican Party unfold. This has been a long time coming. All that's left is a Ron Paul endorsement for Gary Johnson and that will be the nail in the coffin.

*I'm not a huge Democrat supporter but I absolutely loathe the Republicans and I am relishing this primary process.

Romnantorich continues to reveal how ridiculous he continues to be.

Last time I checked, this was an election to see who wants to be President of the U.S., not Preacher of the U.S.

You simply cannot discount the fact that the Republicans have been using the Religious Right for decades by promising to deliver them social issues and failing to do so at nearly every opportunity. They are pissed off, they want someone they know they can trust to deliver on the issues they think are important, and they're willing to bring the entire GOP and whole country down with them to prove that point. Our debate has shifted so far to the right that the country has come to a grinding halt politically. You simply cannot dismiss the fact that these are highly motivated, ideologically pure citizens who make up roughly 20% of the population. Their numbers alone give them huge influence.

Yeah.

The Republican establishment wants to use the power of the Federal Government to regulate how to think, pray, and go to war.

The Democratic establishment wants to use the power of the Federal Government to regulate everything else.

I am amazed that the Michigan primary is stretching just to gather 1 million votes cast despite allowing temporary party changes on election day, meaning Democrats could potentially change their party affiliation to Republican temporarily and cast a vote, to my understanding. Wake County, on the other hand, has just surpassed 600,000 registered voters. Not many Republican voters appear to be coming out to the primaries this year, but as a progressive leaning independent I am convinced they are important nonetheless.

At least 50% of the population has no idea what a primary is or that the election process has even started yet. Of the 50% that know what is going on, probably about half of them even care enough to actually want to vote in the primary and of the ones that care enough, there is no candidate that people like so they will hold out until there is somebody to vote against obama.

Even your booming Wake county only has 26k votes out of those 600k voters turnout in the last republican contest.

Time for another Newt surge.

Newt is like a modern-day Winston Churchill. He's gonna save the world after Obama's policies lead us to the brink of disaster.

That makes absolutely no sense. A vast majority of conservatives don't want to leave Israel hanging. Him being different than Obama on this issue won't give him the election.

Even if he tries to spin it as "we're stopping aid to all the Arab countries too, and giving Israel its independence" conservatives won't vote for him.

^For every neocon Paul loses, he picks up an independent and a pot-smoking disillusioned former Obama supporter.

Romney has a chance. He just needs the economy to tank. Hard.

Still holdingout hope for Newt "Winston Churchill" Gingrich.

You know, that really bothers me. The Republicans currently in office have every incentive to fuck our country up big time so that the public will be inclined to oust the incubment.

They would love it if unemployment skyrockets, the economy tanks, people start dying. It makes me wonder how hard they're trying to prevent that from happening.

Meh. The congressional Republicans are stupid, corrupt ideologues, but not particularly moreso than any other opposition party we've had. All this noise about the GOP "sabotaging" the economy is ridiculous. About all that they have the power to do is block Obama's agenda, which is to be expected during an election year.

Typical pre-election wedge issues. It's not like the 'Pubs are gonna do anything about Iran or gay marriage, and those issues won't make a damn bit of difference in the election.

Catch 22. If they block Obama's policies, then the economy will recover and he will get reelected. If they let his policies through, they go against their principles.

Yeah, that corporate tax cut proposal is totally gonna tank the economy. And and that Jobs bill focusing on infrastructure? A recipe for DISASTER!

Now, we are continuing to live beyond our means with these trillion-dollar deficits, but debt issues won't directly impact the economy until well after Obama leaves office.

The Pubs might as well get on board with Obama's economic initiatives, because they are all just re-hashed Republican proposals.

That's politics. The country continues on it's downward spiral because the politicians are only concerned with taking credit for the good, assigning blame for the bad. Preventing good things from happening if they won't get the credit for it and allowing bad things to happen if they can assign blame to someone else. That's the state of the union.

idk what the margin of error is here, but if thats all obama can manage while these fuckers are tearing each other apart hes still in trouble.

its going to be a long spring for obamacare, and a long summer with shit gas prices and the middle east situation.

obama has plenty of chances to fuck up royally while in the meantime everyone eventually aligns under mitt.

just my 2 cents!

^^What country/times do you think we live in? Look at every election since Clinton/Dole. A 4-6 point lead is basically an ass kicking in terms of the general election. That's about all Obama beat McCain by and people called that a landslide. Again, as I've said time and time again, it's all about the individual state matchups, and no GOP candidate has any realistic path to 270 at this point.
