So lets start by saying im a noob...but after we get past that if anyone can help that would be great. thx!so recently i have been encountering some problems with my internet connection speed. I can't figure out whether its my laptop or ISP. (Time warner cable, Dell XPS).Symptoms1. Basically i get this error a lot in Outlook whenever i try to send emails of a certain size (and sometimes small emails)Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'I googled that and it talks about potential problems but is somewhat vague and could go either way. 2. The internet is really slow and when I have multiple firefox's open it usally times out in the browser I am not currently in. meanwhile the other one goes painfully slow3. The download speeds aren't necessarily affected (i get around 100 kb/s through wireless) it just seems like it doesn't process certain things very quickly. IE if i post something on FB or here it may take forever, but then other tasks don't that should take time.I haven't extensively tested this at say a public place but it's on my to do list, I just wonder if anyone else has experienced this with TWC? i'm hoping its ISP related.Could this be spyware/virus related? I don't really download any executables and i don't really go to any no-name sites. Any tips on figuring out whether it is or isn't spyware/virus related? Thanks!

Download MalwareBytes (its free) update it and run a full scan. Also, if you are using Windows xp, vista, or 7 32bit, download combofix and run that first. Combofix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofixMalwareBytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/If it is a spyware/virus issue one of these should likely resolve it. Combofix is great at breaking a lot of harder to remove malware (including rootkits) and MalwareBytes is a great comprehensive scanner that catches all sorts of junk others seem to miss.

^thanks mani downloaded that malware thing and it didn't find anything but is good to have. I think i have fixed it now. Turns out it may have been the wireless router. I think it may have just been about to die. It made a wierd noise when it was plugged in, so i bought a new wireless n router and so far (crosses fingers) it works.I didnt know wireless routers went bad like that. I figured it would just up and die one day, but i guess they can slow down?

If something's going bad, it can start dropping packets or corrupting some of the data causing there to be a lot of retransmits. This slows things down a lot.Hardware failure can cause all sorts of weird problems.

You might be quarantined! TWC will put your ass in a different connection pool if they think your machine is part of a botnet or they've received a complaint that you're distributing copyrighted material.Do you use TWC's DNS servers or something else, like OpenDNS or Google Public DNS? I didn't know I was being quarantined because the only thing they do at first is redirect every request to this page that prompts you to call them, but if you're not using TWC's DNS servers, you obviously never see that.

no distributions, i haven't messed with opendns since 2006 on an old computer, and think i tried google dns a while ago i can't remember if i reset that or noti do use dropbox a lot between work and home, that's a majority of uploads there

Okay, do other machines connected to your router get similar speed test results?
