Quote :
"One area where this is apparent is games, by far the largest category with about a third of all iPad apps. The average price of a paid game for the iPhone is about $3, whereas the average is closer to $10 for iPad-optimized games. Compare that to games for Nintendo's or Sony's portable consoles—those are generally priced around $25 or higher. You can see why developers are concerned about price expectations.

Looking at the average prices among different categories of apps, iPad apps generally sell for a small margin more than comparable iPhone apps. At the same time, apps in Music, Sports, and Education are selling for nearly twice as much. Apps in the Finance and Medical categories are selling for many times more than iPhone apps in the same category."

Analysis com-plete-ed. Com-plaint con-firmed. *beep*

^^, ^ Wrong. You're changing the nature of the complaint now. Noen explicitly said apps. Feel free to go back up and re-read his post. He did not say games, he did not differentiate. He said "apps." Nice try, tho.

i don’t see why it’s worth noting that the iPad apps are more, when the more expensive iPad apps are still generally cheaper than commercial apps for Windows or Mac OS, making it a better value still than a netbook or tablet with those OSes.

^6 Wouldn't want to trade a wifi 32gig & the cash difference for one would you? After using it today, I'm starting to regret not grabbing a 3G.

This may be a dumb question but with all of the recent ipad coverage, searching isn't getting me any relevant links.

I plan to return my wifi to get a 3g. I'm assuming that it's no problem to transfer my apps. Is there anything I need to know? Having never owned an i-device that had apps & Apple's sometimes dumb choices, I want to make sure I know what I'm doing.

your apps are tie to your account. just make sure you sync with your computer before you wipe the ipad, and you'll be fine with the next one you get. same as with an ipod or iphone.

^^Just sync it with your computer one last time so that it backs up. (make sure it does a back up)

then when you get your 3g hook that up and when it asks if you want to create a new iPad or restore from backup...select restore from backup and select your wifi iPad backup

done.

Even though your apps are tied to your account and you can download them as many times as you wish...creating a backup is the easiest way if you want to retain your settings etc.

ok, I figured it was something simple like that. I just wanted to make sure after my sister had issues with a replacement ipod touch.

^^3G all the way imo. I spend enough time away from wifi that it's a pretty easy decision after using it for a little more than a day.

It's not a space issue. It's fucking iTunes being a bitch. I'm trying to sync a movie to it, and it keeps telling me that if I sync it will delete all the apps I've downloaded. I did the same thing last night and it did, in fact, delete the apps. I had only downloaded 5 so it wasn't that big a deal to redownload them. So tonight I'm adding another movie, and it's telling me that it's gonna delete the ABC player, and 8 other apps if I try to sync (even though I don't have the app sync box checked) So I figure I'll try to sync the apps. I try and it tells me that I can't sync the apps because the computer isn't authorized to play the file. I go to authorize the computer (which it's the same computer I sync my iPhone with, I know it's authorized) and of course it says "This computer is already authorized.

So I'm seemingly stuck between being able to copy ANYTHING from my computer to my iPad and actually keeping the content of the iPad I've already got. I don't see why I can't just fucking copy the one file over that I want and keep everything else the way it is. I guess that would make things too fucking easy.

i wonder how large the movie file is, or if any of those apps have a bunch of crap cached on the ipad. not that that helps you any.

nah, it's really not a space issue at all. I still have a shit ton of space. And all of this is happening before I even try to copy the file over. It's some sort of permission/DRM bullshit. And quite possibly user error. But the fact of the matter remains is that NOTHING should be this hard to figure out. It's supposed to be simple. Apple can revolutionize just about everything but when it comes to what ends up being the most commonly used piece of software they have besides OSX/iPhone OS, they just have to make it as complicated as humanly possible for no good reason.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the fact that I'm jailbroken. Even though all the apps I'm trying to transfer are legit. I dunno. iPhone transfers just fine (legit apps and illegally downloaded ones) I'm trying to find an alternative syncing program but it doesn't look like any of them have been updated to include the iPad just yet. I suppose I could also just allow it to delete all the apps and redownload them (again) but I'd rather just solve the damn problem in the first place.

So it turns out that "Manually add Music and Video" checkbox is kinda important.

Still though, fuck Apple up the ass with a rusty lead pipe for making this shit so needlessly difficult.

dude, the Manually add Music and Video feature has been around since the early ipods. it's on the first page of ipad settings. sounds like you're pissed and blaming apple when it's really your own fault for not understanding the device

wow. I thought gloveco would be the first one in here being a douche bag and defending iTunes.

Way to pick up the slack there qfred.

The fact of the matter remains, if all I want to do is copy one file to my device, it should not take someone with any reasonable amount of intelligence (go ahead and start the debate if you'd like) more than a couple of minutes to figure out how to do it. I don't give two shits how long YOU'VE known about some random obscure checkbox that allows you what you want to do. For people who are only recently being forced to discover the joy of iTunes, it's not something that comes very natural.

[Edited on May 9, 2010 at 4:19 PM. Reason : for the record, I "understand the device" just fine, it's iTunes that sucks a fat one.]

foreign sales have driven up the ebay prices ...

That and many places have still been sold out, even for US customers.

I was trying to get a wifi model for a few weeks, but was surprised when they never had any in stock. The day I picked up my 3g model (and 1 more 3g model and a wifi model) was the first day I had heard of them having any wifi models in stock even ...

So I brought them all to India with me to sale...
