I wear contacts 99.7% of the time, but my glasses are old and the prescription is now pretty bad. I got a new glasses prescription and now i just want to find some cheap glasses to have for emergency use, etc. Any suggestions?

if they're reading glasses you can get a cheap pair at Eckerd's / Rite-Aid etc

if you need them for distance I dunno, probably have to go to Lenscrafters or something

My glasses are from Costco.

I like these glasses much better than anything that Eye Care Associates, Lenscrafters, or any other places had in stock... And they cost ~$80 vs. ~$300 from the other places.

^^ just ordered 2 pairs from there yesterday for $53 total - completely AWESOME considering I've always paid $400 plus due to my prescription (heavy astigmatism) for one pair - also got the A-R coating on them for cheap, Im excited about it

as rough as my husband is on his glasses, I'm totally gonna tell him about that site. Are the glasses good quality?

^ i read a lot of ratings before deciding on it, some a very negative, while others are fairly positive - most people bitch about customer service, but I called them yesterday and waited less than a minute to get through to change my order, I had no problem with them at all - dunno about the quality though, havent gotten them yet!

update when you get them and see what kind of quality they are. Regardless, I think my husband would definitely try a pair...I mean even if they turn out to be shitty, for less than $20 it's worth a shot.

They aren't super high quality or anything, but they are nice. I had a screw fall out of mine, but I just screwed it back in and solved that problem. For the price it's definitely worth it, especially if you don't have to pay for whatever upgrades they offer. I got a pair of regular glasses and a pair of sunglasses for $25 total including shipping. It takes them about two weeks to arrive after ordering, btw.

nice...definitely gonna tell the husband about that...his job causes him to get a lot of crud on his glasses and sometimes he drops them, so risking losing a $8 pair is definitely better than his $300 pair.

I would just go ahead and buy a couple pairs at once if he's likely to break them a lot. I wanted to buy more than I did but was paranoid that my prescription would be messed up somehow.

yeah I'm kinda worried that my prescription is gonna be fudged:

OD -4.00 +4.50 107

OS -3.75 +4.25 070

I had to pay for the extra strength due to astigmatism - ($9 per pair), which is no problem, but I hope I can see well out of them, I'll buy another few pairs after I receive them if I like them

I ended up ordering these 2 pairs in the exact colors:

^^considering you got your RX from an ophthalmogist's tech, you might have a good chance it is messed up.

yeah I'm afraid of that - I just got a copy of the script that I got for the glasses I'm wearing now and got them to write down my PD - so I'm hoping I'll be safe - but I know my vision is fucked - has been for years!

save up for lasik.

Open a HSA, fund it with pretax dollars and get your surgery. It looks like you just have a ton of astigmatism. Depending on your corneal thickness, they should be able to correct it.

I went to North Carolina Eye and Ear last year to see if I could have surgery and they told me I wasn't eligible at the time due to the fact that my vision changes so often and its never been stable - my vision was around +5.25 in both eyes when I was 12 though (astigmatism that is) so its getting a little better, slowly

Well this is a disappointment:

"Your order is being processed promptly, but we also need to clarify something in your particular order. We feel regret to tell you that frame #2233 and #3386 cannot work due to your strong Cyl values. Please go back to our website to choose another two smaller full rim metal frames instead, except frames with magnetic clip on, frames with initial digit "39xx" or Modified Aviator Style."

WTF? So I can't get anything but metal frames? Fuck that, I'm just cancelling my order. I don't understand it, the only glasses they have with 39xx is like $29.95 and up and they're so fugly. I don't wear metal either. Aviator? Hahah funny. They should have a note about this on their site.

Hahahah - I'm so not going there.
