I have terrible reading comprehension. I'm interpreting the list as the top 25 schools warned about piracy. The list ranks schools by notices sent. For all anyone knows there could be a whole host of schools that have more piracy but never get the notice.

Ah... from the article:

Quote :
"The list, the RIAA says, does not necessarily indicate which universities are the worst offenders, just the universities who have received the most notices."

Poorly titled article.

"Purdue, on the other hand (my not-so-proud alma mater for today), seems to be taking the "don't worry, be happy" approach to sitting pretty at the number two spot. The school almost never even notifies the students—of copyright infringement, or much of anything, in my experience. Purdue spokesman Steve Tally told the Associated Press, "In a sense, the (complaint) letter is asking us to pursue an investigation and as the service provider we don't see that as our role." This attitude expresses either extreme pompousness on Purdue's part or extreme ignorance. Is that not the whole reason why the RIAA cannot pursue potential infringers individually? The students are currently allowed to hide behind the ISP—in this case, the university—with the understanding that the ISP will investigate infringement accusations. If Purdue and any other schools who express this attitude don't feel the need to investigate, then they put themselves at risk of being sued by the RIAA."

aha. gg purdue.

I think thats a great tactic and a great service for the students. If the RIAA is serious, they'll bring a suit against Purdue, and I don't think the RIAA has the balls to go after anyone other than the little man.

If they are so brazen as to bring a suit, then all Purdue has to do is say "ok, in that case I guess we will try to cooperate" to free themselves of any trouble.

Fuck the RIAA.

how the fuck...

getting news from TWW is like getting stuff from BitTorrent - in the sense that only after all the mainstream places have it does it come here.

wonder how that happened.

Putting Our Money Where Our Mouths Are: Boycott the RIAA in March
http://tinyurl.com/3yuwlh

Quote :
"With that in mind, Gizmodo is declaring the month of March Boycott the RIAA month. We want to get the word out to as many people as humanly possible that we can all send a message by refusing to buy any album put out by an RIAA label. Am I saying you should start pirating music? Not at all. You can continue to support the artists you enjoy and respect in a number of ways."

you guys should see some of the replies we got back when we sent out the copyright violation notices.

(i used to work for ITD/resnet here at state)

there was one on my boss's door that said "sorry, i did not mean to download the mentioned Harry Potter movie, i was actually trying to download pornographic material."

needless to say, he got off with a warning. literally.

I'm disappointed in the campus residents ... seriously if you're gonna make the MPAA's list, at least make it into the top 10! Now it just looks like you weren't trying hard enough.

Ms. Levow is there any way you can route ResNet to my apartment so I don't have to deal with a shitty internet connection anymore?!? ResNet was the one saving grace about living in the dorms.
