I definitely think he could win the MVP, and would go as far to say if the Chiefs drop another game and the Chargers win the AFC West/#1 seed, he WILL be the 2018 NFL MVP. It's basically a two man race between him and Mahomes as of last night.

A super bowl ain't happening this year either. Adrian Phillips is the latest Charger to suffer what is probably a season ending injury, breaking his arm yesterday. That's now 2 pro bowl safeties lost this season along with Hunter Henry's broken knee, 2 injured corners and starting LT Russell Okung missing at least the first 6 weeks. Not even mentioning Melvin Gordon's holdout.

Honestly, if the Panthers trade/release Cam, Rivers would not be the worst option as a stop gap, but it would almost assuredly mean you are drafting a QB at 7.

Philip Rivers moved from San Diego to Florida. Pretty much confirming his career with the Chargers is over.

I think Bruce Arians definitely wants to replace Winston. And I think he would be willing to do it with a hall of fame caliber QB in the twilight of his career while drafting a replacement. He'll definitely come cheaper than Winston, and there will be no long term commitment.
