yeah i heard that a long time ago.. knives and box cutters is what they used.... i mean shit... if i knew i was hijacked and was gonna die anyways.. even if they had guns.. think about this.. you have 50+ ppl on the plane.. assuming its just 5 or less hijackers id do something "stupid" you might say and stand up and say bumrush em.. they cant take all of ya... if it worked - id be dead.. a lot of ppl still might be... flying the plane to safety also a problem.. buuuuuuuuuut... at least a lot of lives would be saved... i cant believe they had just knives and nobody did a damn thing on any plane i hope they used gas on people or osmething or just mass killed them first.. too f'n weird

remember, they had no idea about what was going on. nearly all hijackings end up just going to another city, the hostages eventually getting off, and a standoff between negotiators and terrorists. they didn't know they planned to crash the plane into the WTC...

Yea, but they probably didn't know what the result would be. What usually happens when somebody hijacks a plane? They change the route, go somewhere, land and make demands and then they give up. If somebody hijacked a plane, you would probably sit there waiting b/c who was to know that they were gonna go full speed into the WTC. Nobody ever hijacks an airplane and kamikazes it into a skyscraper. Its never happened before, and hopefully will never happen again. But I doubt any of those people thought they would be hijacked and die in a fiery explosion on the nations greatest landmarks.

THIS JUST IN: an AA stewardess was on the cellphone long enough to say that some people were injured before the crash, and that the stewardess was able to give out a seat number of one of the people that hijacked the plane.

I dunno... you could talk about the people on the plane rallying against guys with knives.. but in their mind... they probably had no clue of the repercussions of the highjacking... I mean why get them all hurt if all these guys want to do is smuggle drugs out or flee the country.. You know, if any of those passengers had any clue that they were about to fly into either monuments, they probably would have been a little more valiant. I know knives seem like a weak tool for such extreme violence, but again.. if those passengers had any clue as to what was about to happen, they probably would have retaliated against knives rather than succumbed. Woulda, coulda, shoulda, but they didn't know...

Knives actually makes a bit more sense than conventional pistols. If something goes wrong and they fire their weapons, they cause a major depressurization and therefore can't accomplish their mission, provided they don't have any sort of special ammo designed to be used to re-capture airplanes or subs (There are a few specially-designed rounds which shatter on impact, made of some sort of compound. They'll punch through flesh, but it'll break on contact with metal)

On the other hand, a well-trained knife fighter doesn't have to worry apout puncturing the skin of an aircraft, plus it's much easier to smuggle them on.

Do you fly much? Have you gone through the "security posts?" Last month I was traveling around the country, a lot of the time the people looking at the x ray machines aren't paying attention. I watched one stare off into the distance as luggage passed through. My mom works for an airline, and even she thinks its a joke.

some of those machines have alarms that will sound (silent of course) when a certain metal passes through ... otherwise the security ppl don't have to pay that much attention to all the baggage passing through, or so I've been told.

There isn't an alarm on the XRAY machine that goes off when metal goes through the machine. That's why they hire people to sit there and watch it, and why they can reverse the belt to look closer, and if they suspect something, to examine the contents.
