damn son.... how much power you making?what kind or rpm on that clutch dump?

403/375 on a Dyno DynamicsI had been parked, waiting for the runs to start, and was the 6th or so to run on the fresh track.I went around the water, no peelout, and went straight to the tree.Feathered it off the line with the tires (NT555R DRs) just starting to squirmthen.. *bam* no more acceleration after about 10 feet and I turned off the engine.I looked around: no smoke, no fluids.I turned her back on and she idled and revved like normal. The clutch gave good feedback: I could feel/hear the throw-out bearing pressing and releasing. The shifter (linkage, not cable) seemed to engage every gearI didn't snap the driveshaft or axles.2 days later on jackstands:Rotating one tire still rotated the other through the diff, so I figured the diff was OKThe clutch and PP were a little glazed and the spring retainers were a little thin, but didn't pose a problemBasically, I was stumped. Eventually, I went to pull the yoke from the old trans to install it on the replacement. As I carried it, I heard a slurping sound and that chunk of output shaft slid out [Edited on April 5, 2016 at 8:53 PM. Reason : ]

I hardly ever get to post in this thread now that I don't daily drive a Corvette, Evo, or modded-out import sports car. My Insight has, so far, been totally indestructible. At 156k miles (I've owned it since 66k), I've never had to do anything other than scheduled maintenance and consumables (and not even much of those...tires prob last 60k, maybe more...front brakes lasted well over 100k...I think it's on the original rear brakes, haha). My daughter and I did oil, filter, and CVT fluid changes a couple of weeks ago.

New battery for the Lotus, old one suffered too much drain with my terrible ability to remember to hit the shut off switch for several years. And finally getting the Ford Expedition I bought last year running and registered. I just hope to be able to squeeze past emissions with no serious issues.

Dialed in the meth injection to come on at about 14psi. Fixed a blown intake fitting, when I accidentally hit 21psi while messing around with the race logic traction control... Umm
4/17/2016 1:09:49 AM
4/17/2016 12:55:53 PM
Pssssh, I pegged my gauge at 40psi on my GTI when the vacuum line to the waste gate melted. Thought something was wrong with the boost controller till I adjusted it down and the promptly pegged it again. Though, I ran 24 psi daily....
4/17/2016 5:53:07 PM
Well I hadn’t tuned my car for more than 13psi, so I don’t want it to hit 21psi... But really, I was just posting that b/c I have a new car with a shit ton of power and meth injection, and I think it’s kind of nuts/neat.
4/18/2016 1:15:16 AM
I must have missed it, what is this new car?
4/18/2016 11:54:16 AM
I did not post about it here It’s a ridiculously turboed e36 M3. Made 445@the wheels before meth and a smaller exhaust. Has lots of other things like a race logic traction control as well, neat. Currently trying to figure out if I should go for an M50 manifold (should be a very easy/cheap 40ish hp, maybe more), or do other things or what...
4/18/2016 4:45:57 PM
Ordered two front wheel bearing/hub assemblies for next weekend. The Maxima hit 150k miles and needs some refreshing and repairs.
4/22/2016 8:48:38 PM
^^ Does it feel like an overpowered bull in a china shop? Obviously the chassis was never designed for that sort of power.
4/22/2016 9:37:03 PM
You know, surprisingly it really doesn’t. I’m strangely disappointed, but in love with it in a way. Mine has bushing limiters, solid mounts, and a fair bit of chassis stiffening (strut braces, X/Motorsports brace on the front sub frame, welded in reinforcements +solid bushings in the rear, some M5 mounts, solid mounts bla bla). It’s a stupid car like I wanted, but it’s really well refined and just sublime to drive. Not at all what I was expecting... I think I might have to go to an e30 to get the stupid driving experience I wanted. I mean it even has a race logic traction control system! Bitter sweet. So, since we’re talking about the things we did... I added the factory splitter in the front, wired in the bluetooth handsfree set up on the stereo, cleaned up a bit of wiring, permanently mounted the Blitz dual circuit boost controller and the earlier mentioned race logic traction control
4/23/2016 2:00:38 AM
I will sell you a wild ride if you want one.
4/23/2016 9:48:23 AM
I’d be interested, but I have 3 cars again. Not what I want... The MINI was great on track, and now that it’s got tires and pads and stuff, I would like to track it at least once more before I sell it.

Put 2 fresh coats of Zaino car polish on the Cayman this past weekend. Also recently swapped out the stock front brake air ducts for GT3 spec units, and reinforced the shifter cable end point attachments (a weak point of the 987).

'rebuilt' the deck on my L120 John Deere lawnmower - new idler pulleys, all new blade spindle assemblies, new blades and new anti-scalp wheels. Been a long time coming.I will say that I'm pleasantly surprised with this particular mower, it's a Home Depot special from 2002 and has ~355hrs on it. The only things I've replaced on it so far besides the above are front wheel spindles, belts and a battery.
4/26/2016 12:08:13 PM
Just changed brake fluid flush and brake shoes and other stuff at Mr. Tire, which cost me $500.

4/26/2016 12:31:04 PM
^^^^ why 2 "coats" of polish?
4/27/2016 5:56:19 PM
For a better finish, and to ensure I didn't miss any spots. Zaino recommends up to 3 coats applied within 24 hours.

Got e46 style keys working on the e36 BMW, this way I don’t need a second fob, the “keyless” buttons are on the key itself. Also got parts together to install the larger intake manifold, and making plans to install wheel studs instead of bolts -yuck-. Now starting the research into a dual fuel pump set up, so I don’t get fuel starvation in longright handers. Stuff like this makes me miss the Porsche, but at least the BMW doesn’t have*as* big issues with oil pick up
4/29/2016 1:37:40 AM
Washed the c6, polished it for my cousin to come enjoy. I got to drive his evo 9 in Okinawa. Right hand drive was a different thing to get used to, but the car is a hoot! (Factory)
4/29/2016 9:02:09 PM
Evo 9 is a helluva fun car. Totally opposite from a Corvette, though.I've never driven anything so easy to be fast as hell in (Evo), all with no electronic nannies.
4/29/2016 9:06:20 PM
isn't the magical diffs pretty much a fancy electronic nanny ?
4/30/2016 9:40:49 AM
They are, but for some reason he won’t accept that. To be fair though, the EVO did not have “stability” control, or active suspension or anything like that.
4/30/2016 10:16:43 AM
yeah, the IX's AWD system is kinda fancy, but there's no torque vectoring either front/rear or left/right, or stability control (on the U.S. model, at least), or traction control, or electronic suspension wizardry. It had an electronically controlled center diff, but really all it did was vary the amount of limited-slip lockup, and was mostly designed for varying setup between dry pavement and looser surfaces. About the closest thing to electronic whiz-bangness about it was that it basically went open when detecting a steering input (with progressively more delay in this as you dialed up modes for looser surfaces). On pavement, it went open pretty much as soon as you turned in.Really, it's just a good chassis, good suspension, good steering, and 3 LSDs, and is pretty straightforward and almost all mechanical. Now the Evo X, that's a totally different story.
4/30/2016 6:38:20 PM
Oh I absolutely loved driving the evo on the tight twisting country back roads in Japan. I didn't go crazy with it, but it was enthusiastic and a blast to drive. 280hp with boost kicking in at around 4,200 rpm and redlining at 7k, so much fun... Comfortable to drive (I was expecting something more spartan and rough to be honest). Car is a GT 5spd with about 40k miles, all factory minus some visual mods and an HKS BOV.I think I enjoy driving just about anything with a motor, manual transmission, and wheels. Different from the vette? Yes, but still lots of fun. Refreshing to try something new I brought my cousin back with me. He got to drive the vette on some back roads out in the country. He's still trying to wrap his head around having tasted ~500hp. In Okinawa, driving a Prius C is like having one of the hottest hatches around. In the two weeks I was there, I saw 2 CRZ's, 1 350z, 1 370z nismo, a couple s15's... But 95% of the cars are mostly K-cars (compact cars with 660cc motors in a light weight wagon, like Mazda's AZ Wagon with 50hp and 1,800lbs)[Edited on May 2, 2016 at 10:01 AM. Reason : .]

Won class B at the 24 Hours of Lemons race last weekend in my Hooptiecorn (the middle class), and placed approximately 7th overall behind 6 class A cars. I raced the car for about 4.5 hours on Saturday, 1h45m in the morning then a double stint in the afternoon of 1h45m then a quick pit stop for fuel then 1h more. Doing almost 3 hours on track with no real break was somewhat of a personal test and was really fun, and I was able to maintain competitive lap times the whole session, giving us a nice solid 10 lap lead over 2nd place in class B starting Sunday.Obligatory cool shot of the 3 cars my team runs at races:

How much weight do you save on those rotors?
5/15/2016 9:54:46 PM
Those ducts don’t connect to anything, they just sit there? Still, cool. More info on rotors plz.
5/16/2016 12:38:20 AM
ATM, no. Those ducts just funnel air inside the rim (as was intended with the z06), where before it just funneled air into the wheel well. I'll eventually make a bracket and add some tubing to finish the job. I think this will be fine for now. Not racing for that 100th of a second here. I'm actually surprised; air flow in that duct is pretty good.Rotors are DBA 5000 series two piece rotors for the front. The rears are 1 piece 4000 series slotted. Carbotech XP10/XP8 (front/rear). Weight savings? I think it's about 3lbs each from what I've read online. I'll weight them both and let you know since you asked, but keep in mind the front rotors are pretty worn and not a true representation of what it would weigh when new (for you critical number crunchers )[Edited on May 16, 2016 at 9:11 AM. The blanks don’t look to be replaceable, that’s kind of why I was curious...Brake cooling doesn’t help with “slowing faster”, they ward off fade and extend component life.
